Chapter 796: Chapter 784: Case-solving Little Detective (14)

"I..." ’How could I not miss her? Rory is my daughter. How could I possibly not? When I first left Rory, I don’t even know how I made it through. I was thinking of her nearly every single moment...’

She just knew, with absolute certainty, that staying with Archie Lockwood was far better for Rory than staying with her, her own mother.

Seeing the deathly pale look on her face, his heart inexplicably softened. He couldn’t bear to question her any further. Besides, it wouldn’t change anything...

"Forget it. Let’s go," he said in a low voice, his expression impassive.

Just as she was agonizing over what to say to avoid angering Archie Lockwood, she suddenly heard his words.

Her expression didn’t improve. Instead, her brow furrowed in confusion.

As Archie Lockwood pushed her to the car and was about to open the door, Eleanor Bishop’s eyes were red-rimmed. She spoke in a low, choked voice, "If I said that I miss Rory desperately, that I’ve even bought plane tickets many times, just waiting to fly back to Tridell to see her in secret... what would you do?" ’Would he get angry? Would he fly into a rage, hide Rory away, and never let me see her again?’

Hearing Eleanor Bishop’s words, Archie Lockwood stiffened, his expression complex and tinged with pain.

After a long moment, once Archie Lockwood had collected himself, he gave a bitter smile and said faintly, "We’d probably get married."

"G-get married?" This wasn’t the answer she had anticipated. Eleanor was taken aback, her face pale and her lips trembling as she spoke with extreme caution and unease.

"Rory needs a mother." ’And I need a family!’

He didn’t know why, all of a sudden, the thought that came to him was that he needed a family.

Perhaps it was because he was no longer a hot-blooded youth, and that was why he now craved a family so desperately.

That must be why he’d managed to hold back, time and again, when this woman pushed his buttons.

At his words, Eleanor Bishop lowered her head and gave a self-mocking smile. ’Rory needs a mother?’ Those four simple words, offered with no further explanation, felt like a cruel hand squeezing her heart, making her hold her breath without even realizing it...

"Eleanor Bishop, for Rory’s sake, I’m willing to let everything that happened between us in the past go." At this, Archie Lockwood walked over to her and squatted down, tilting his head up to look at her deathly pale face. A cool smile touched his lips. "Let’s get married."

’I don’t have the time or the energy to keep dragging this out with her.’

’Besides, now that Jason Lockwood is out, I have even less time to spare on distractions...’

"Archie Lockwood, are you serious?" ’A man who just took another woman to meet his parents is now asking me to marry him?’

’Does he still think I’m as gullible as I used to be? That all it takes is for me to sleep with him and get pregnant, and then I’d surely be able to marry him...?’

Archie Lockwood nodded, his expression grave and sincere. He said in a low voice, "Eleanor Bishop, marry me. I can give you anything you want, whether it be power and influence or endless wealth!"

’Power? Endless wealth? So even now, he’s still convinced that’s all I care about?’

Eleanor Bishop tilted her head back, forcing her tears not to fall.

’The man she had loved most in her life was finally asking to marry her, but his proposal was just... utterly laughable...’
