Chapter 797: Chapter 785: Little Detective (15)
A long moment passed in silence. Archie Lockwood’s patience was wearing thin. Stifling his anger, he demanded coldly, "You disagree?"
At his words, Eleanor Bishop let out a faint, cold laugh and gave a slight shake of her head. "No. I was just wondering... who else have you said these words to?"
’Did he say the same thing to Shannon Vance?’
’Just what kind of person am I in his eyes?’
’An outlet for his frustrations? Or am I just Rory’s mother?’
’If it’s the former, then I’m truly pitiful and pathetic. He’s set his sights on me, and with my lack of power and status, how could I ever shake him off?’
’If it’s the latter, then I should consider myself lucky. Lucky that in Archie Lockwood’s eyes, I’m not quite so tragic...’
"There’s no one else but you!" Archie Lockwood didn’t understand the meaning behind Eleanor Bishop’s question. His brow furrowed in displeasure as he answered coldly.
’No one else? Then what is Shannon Vance??’
’And what does he even mean by "no one else"?’
’I really can’t figure out Archie Lockwood...’
Watching Eleanor Bishop purse her lips into a bitter smile, Archie Lockwood was rapidly losing patience. "So, will you marry me?"
A shadow passed through Eleanor Bishop’s eyes. Then she suddenly gave Archie Lockwood a bright, excited smile and said, "Archie Lockwood, of course I’ll agree to marry you. With a catch like you, I’d have to be stupid or crazy to refuse." ’Since he’s so set on it, refusing just isn’t an option.’
’He’s convinced he holds all the power and influence. Fine, I’ll just have to make good use of that.’
’Besides, I don’t dare to oppose Archie Lockwood directly.’
’Marrying him... actually isn’t so bad. I’ll just consider it... a way to finally fulfill that long-held wish of mine...’
"Hah. Eleanor Bishop, you’re the one who agreed. Don’t even think about backing out." Her answer infuriated him, but at the end of the day, she had agreed.
’No matter how furious he was, this wasn’t the time to show it.’
’Once he eliminated all the obstacles in his way, he could take his time dealing with this woman...’
’Then again, maybe... if she was willing to stay by his side and treat Rory well, perhaps he could treat her well in return...’

「Half an hour later.」
Archie Lockwood drove Eleanor Bishop to Shirley Lockwood’s new school.
When Shirley Lockwood walked out of the school gates, she froze for a moment upon seeing her dad and the pretty lady in the wheelchair. A look of confusion crossed her face.
’Ever since Dad told me to be nice to the pretty lady, I had a feeling she was special to him. Now that she’s here to pick me up, I’m even more certain.’
"Dad! Pretty Lady!!" But what she was thinking was one thing. A clever girl like her knew better than to question her dad in front of the lady herself.
’I’ll find out what’s so special about this pretty lady, no matter what!’
Shirley Lockwood ran and threw herself into Archie Lockwood’s arms. She hugged his waist, her eyes fixed on the pretty lady who was smiling warmly at her.
"Pretty Lady, what are you doing here?" she asked, smiling excitedly.
Eleanor Bishop clearly hadn’t expected Shirley Lockwood to be so friendly. She gave her an indulgent smile. "I heard it’s Rory’s first day at a new school, so of course I had to come see. How do you like it? Are you settling in okay?"
As she spoke, a pained look flickered across Eleanor Bishop’s face. ’She remembered how she hadn’t been there at all when Rory had started school before. In the blink of an eye, her Rory was already in second grade...’
