’Of course, those weren’t the real reasons. My main goal is to teach that grain and oil shop owner a lesson—an eye for an eye. I can’t tell Uncle Hu, though. Knowing him, he would never agree.’

"Anyway, I’m going to go wash my face. I’m starving!" she said, running off with a grin to keep Uncle Hu from asking any more questions.

When she reached the backyard, Hu Feng was using a cloth to wipe himself down. His bare torso was like a sculpture in a museum, set out for art students to sketch. His muscles were perfectly defined, as if chiseled, without a single ounce of fat. A narrow waist, broad shoulders, and beneath his water-soaked trousers, a firm, toned backside that was enough to make one swallow hard...

The red mark under his right shoulder was particularly noticeable—the memory of him pulling her into his embrace, using his own back to shield her from a brick, flashed through her mind.

Once again, he had stood before her like a towering mountain.

Hu Feng turned and saw Bai Zhi standing dazedly in the yard. He couldn’t resist teasing her, "What is it? Never seen a shirtless man before?"

Bai Zhi ran straight back to the wooden cabin without even eating.

Hu Changlin headed toward the backyard, muttering, "That girl... a moment ago she was saying she was starving, and now she’s run off. Hu Feng, what are you standing there in a daze for? Go eat. When you’re finished, bring some food over to Zhi."
