Done Breeding: Now I Rule the Beastworld
Chapter 240 - 239: The Oaths Sworn in Those Years
Chu Liangyu’s steps were light as she quickly walked up behind the old man.
Before Chu Liangyu could even speak, the old man adjusted his glasses and turned around. "You’re finally back," he said.
"You must have eyes in the back of your head," Chu Liangyu joked. "You’ve worked hard. I brought you back a gift."
The old man’s eyes lit up. He glanced at her hand and saw a ring with a deep green gemstone nestled in her palm.
The silver band of the ring was engraved with a vine-like pattern he had never seen before, but it was beautiful. He liked it the moment he saw it.
"Well, I’ll be. I didn’t expect you to think of an old man like me."
The old man took the ring and delightedly slipped it onto his finger. He then gave Chu Liangyu an appreciative look.
"Now that you’re back, it’s a good time for me to explain some of your duties as the new Beast God."
The old man rose from his chair and began to walk as he spoke. "First, you must observe the state of the world. If any abnormalities arise, you must find a way to correct them."
"As for how often, you already know our World Origin has a problem, so you’ll need to observe it daily."
Chu Liangyu listened intently. "So, does that mean I have to go to the Sumeru Realm every day?"
The Sumeru Realm was built for the Guardian to observe the state of the world, so that was Chu Liangyu’s first thought.
But the old man shook his head. "That would be too troublesome. You can observe from here as well."
As he spoke, the old man knocked on the table. The objects on its surface floated into mid-air, and in the next instant, a map of the Beast World materialized above the wooden surface.
Not only that, but the map of the Beast World was in color. Of course, this wasn’t just for aesthetics.
There were seven colors. In a calm, measured tone, the old man began to explain the meaning behind each one.
Red, orange, yellow, green, cyan, blue, and violet. In that order, they represented the operational status of the various regions.
The colors at the beginning of the spectrum represent more chaotic areas. Conversely, the closer an area is to violet, the more smoothly it’s running.
Red, for instance, indicated a high-risk region. Chu Liangyu made a point to check the area where the Xihe Tribe was located. It was violet.
Violet was an auspicious color, indicating that the area around the Xihe Tribe was running very smoothly.
However, only the areas near the Xihe Tribe were violet. The color gradually shifted to blue, cyan, and green, and the farther away a region was, the closer its color drifted toward red.
"These red areas... When you have the time, you must go take a look. Investigate the cause thoroughly. Once you resolve the issue, things will slowly improve."
"It might not be easy, but it has to be done. Otherwise, it will directly affect the surrounding regions."
Chu Liangyu speculated on the cause. Her first thought was that the females in those areas were in dire straits.
At that thought, however, Chu Liangyu shook her head. When she had sent the cubs out for their training, she had specifically sent them to those regions.
Moreover, she had sent the powerful White Tiger and Phoenix cub. From their time together, she knew the cubs were quite obedient. There was no reason they wouldn’t have followed her instructions to spread the Body Technique.
’Could it be... that something happened?’
"Besides observing the state of the world, your second duty is to process the Contract Books that are generated."
The papers floating in mid-air drifted back down. He picked one up and handed it to Chu Liangyu. "You need to stamp this with a seal bearing your Divine Seal. I’ve already prepared the Seal for you. It’s in the drawer."
Curious, Chu Liangyu opened one of the drawers as the old man had instructed.
It was a Seal made of white jade, shaped like a sun. When Chu Liangyu removed the lid, she saw her Divine Seal engraved on its inner surface, accompanied by a pattern of auspicious clouds.
The other half of the case held a golden ink pad that emitted a faint, pleasant fragrance.
"After you stamp them, place them into that pillar of light. Once the Heavenly Dao acknowledges it, the Contract Book is established, and the Heavenly Dao will immediately bind the person who made the vow."
His explanation made her realize what all those things inside the pillar of light were.
’No wonder I saw writing on those papers. So they were Contract Books all along.’
"Speaking of which, I remember there was a time I was constantly receiving Contract Books related to you. It really ran me ragged."
"Back then, I kept thinking about how badly I wanted to pass this position on to someone else. Now, my wish has finally come true."
The old man’s face was a picture of immense relief. Listening to him, Chu Liangyu felt a little awkward and rubbed her nose.
’That must have been back when I hadn’t recovered my memories and was still relatively weak. I really did make a lot of people swear oaths back then.’
Chu Liangyu’s gaze darted away. She cleared her throat and changed the subject. "Ahem... so, uh, what’s next after processing the Contract Books?"
"Ah... right, I got sidetracked. Let’s continue. The third duty is to patrol the world Barrier and check for cracks. If you find any, just use your Creation Power to mend them."
"There are rarely any cracks, since Lou Sang is keeping an eye on it. But there will be times when he can’t be everywhere at once, so you’ll need to go check on it from time to time."
Chu Liangyu felt exhausted just listening. Problems with the world Barrier couldn’t be spotted just by looking at the world projection.
This meant she would have to travel all over the Beast World.
The old man seemed to have read her mind. He laughed heartily and said, "You think this is a lot? I’ve been doing this for more years than I can count."
"You’re just getting started. You’d better get used to it."
Chu Liangyu nodded helplessly. She understood that it simply came with the territory.
"Alright. It’s only three duties, but none of them are as easy as they sound. If you have any questions later, you can ask me then. I’m tired and need to go rest for a while."
The old man waved his hand, and his figure began to fade, signaling that he was about to leave this space.
But Chu Liangyu suddenly remembered something and called out, "Wait, I have one more thing to ask you!"
The fading figure paused, then solidified back to normal.
The old man looked exhausted, but he patiently looked at her and asked, "What is it?"
"Elder Yu gave me the one thousand Origin Beads we agreed on, but I don’t know how to deliver them to the World Origin."
This was a matter the old man had been very concerned about, but he hadn’t mentioned it at all when she returned. It was clear he had completely forgotten about it.
Now that she had reminded him, his expression changed. "I can’t believe I forgot something so important. It’s a good thing you reminded me."
"The World Origin is actually a tree. Getting to that space is simple. You just need to communicate with the Heavenly Dao, and a tunnel will appear."
The fact that one had to petition the Heavenly Dao just to enter underscored the World Origin’s importance, but Chu Liangyu didn’t find it troublesome.
"Okay, I understand. Go get some rest. You can leave the rest to me."
A look of relief washed over the old man’s face, and a smile touched his lips. "Then I can rest easy."
