Doomsday Rebirth: The Doctor and the General's Survival Farm
Chapter 112: The Unknown Beast
Night settled over the transformed northern forest, turning the crystalline vegetation into a sea of pale light. High above the pale canopy, the crimson sky remained, casting long shadows across the glittering terrain.
The creature stood motionless in the clearing. From the live surveillance feed in the command center, Raviah watched its massive silhouette towering above the twisted, glass-like trees.
Overlapping armor plates reflected the moonlight, while luminous branches extending from its shoulders pulsed with a steady rhythm. Deep inside its chest, a central core-like organ glowed with several interwoven colors.
"Prepare a reconnaissance team," Rhyder ordered through the encrypted command channel, his voice cutting through the sound of the monitors. "Three armored vehicles, remote scanners, and a full Elemental escort. Nobody approaches without my authorization."
Raviah pressed the communicator against her ear, stepping closer to the display. "Wait."
Rhyder’s voice sharpened immediately over the line. "Raviah, we don’t know what that creature is capable of."
"Exactly," she replied, staring at the shifting thermal signatures. "We don’t know whether it’s hostile."
"It destroyed our drone," he pointed out sternly.
"It detected an energy signature and reacted," Raviah countered, keeping her tone calm. "That isn’t necessarily aggression."
She turned toward Elias, who was rapidly typing away as he examined the creature’s recorded energy output. "What do you think?"
Elias studied the shifting graphs on his monitor before looking up. "The central structure resembles a core, but the surrounding nodes aren’t behaving like the distributed cores inside a Zerg. They’re synchronized without appearing to belong to a hive network."
"Meaning?" she asked.
"It might possess an independent energy system," Elias explained, adjusting his glasses.
Raviah’s gaze returned to the main monitor screen. "An intelligent core," she murmured beneath her breath.
Elias looked at her sharply. "You think the core itself is intelligent?"
"Not necessarily conscious in the human sense," she clarified. "But look at the signal patterns."
She reached forward and enlarged the last several seconds of the destroyed drone’s footage. Before shattering the camera lens, the creature had emitted a series of distinct energy pulses. They were far from random discharges.
Their precise intervals changed in direct response to the drone’s maneuvering, becoming increasingly refined until the final pulse struck the target.
"Those signals are structured," Raviah explained, pointing to the frequency spikes on the secondary monitor. "It’s processing information and adapting its responses. We may be looking at a form of intelligence that doesn’t depend on a conventional nervous system."
Rhyder’s deep voice interrupted through the communicator once more. "That still doesn’t make it safe."
"No," Raviah admitted. "But killing it before we understand it could destroy our first opportunity to study this species."
A silence stretched over the channel as Rhyder weighed her words.
Finally, the general answered, "You have five minutes to observe it from a safe distance. If it moves toward the fortress, we withdraw immediately."
"Agreed," she said.
Within twenty minutes, the reconnaissance unit reached the outer boundary of the transformed forest. Raviah accompanied the squad inside the main armored transport, surrounded by Rhyder’s elite soldiers.
When the side doors hissed open, the cool night air outside smelled intensely of wet stone and unfamiliar vegetation. Crystalline branches glittered beneath the moon while pale roots twisted across the damp ground like exposed veins.
The creature waited in the center of the clearing. Its enormous head turned slowly as the vehicles ground to a halt.
Instantly, every soldier raised their rifle, aiming straight at the beast.
"Hold fire," Raviah ordered, her voice firm as she moved past the front bumper.
Ignoring the protests from the armed guards around her, she stepped out into the open space.
"Doctor, please remain behind the armored line," the squad leader urged, raising a hand to stop her.
Raviah didn’t advance recklessly. She stopped well beyond the creature’s immediate reach, took a breath, and extended a thin, invisible thread of her root outward.
The response was instantaneous.
The creature’s central core brightened with sudden brilliance. A soft pulse of energy washed through the clearing, brushing against Raviah’s consciousness without any of the violent backlash she had previously felt from the celestial visitor.
Instead, she felt pure curiosity. There were no spoken words or recognizable human emotions, only a clear question expressed through raw energy.
"Who are you?"
Raviah’s breath caught in her throat. She gathered her focus and sent a cautious, gentle response back through her root.
"I am Raviah Solomon."
The towering creature remained still, its glowing eyes fixed on her. Then another pulse arrived through the air, stronger and clearer than the first.
It carried vivid mental images: the falling celestial blood from the mountain battle, the rapid crystalline transformation of the surrounding forest, and the creature’s own painful emergence from beneath the earth. It was showing her its birth.
Raviah slowly lowered her hand. "You were created by the visitor’s blood," she said softly.
The creature tilted its head slightly, as if attempting to comprehend the sound of her voice.
Behind her, Elias held up a handheld scanner, his fingers trembling. "Doctor, its energy output is changing. The central core is responding directly to your root."
"Is it attacking?" the squad leader called out, adjusting his grip on his rifle.
"No," Elias replied, scanning the gentle energy curves. "Its output is stabilizing."
Raviah took one careful step forward, her boots crunching against the crystalline grass. The creature did not retaliate or bare its teeth.
Instead, its luminous shoulder branches folded inward, and the fierce energy radiating from its armored body softened into a calm, rhythmic glow.
Raviah felt another distinct signal pass directly through her consciousness. This time, the fundamental meaning was unmistakable.
"Recognized."
She froze in place.
"Recognized by what?" she whispered.
Before she could process the thought, the creature lowered its enormous head. Then its massive front limbs bent toward the ground.
The earth trembled beneath their feet as its towering body descended, the heavy crystalline armor scraping loudly against the stone.
Every soldier in the perimeter stared in disbelief. The unknown beast had knelt.
It did not bow toward the armed soldiers, nor toward the distant fortress of Sol Haven. It knelt directly before Raviah.
Deep inside its intelligent core, an unfamiliar energy signature began resonating in perfect harmony with her root.
