The planetary map remained suspended above the central table of Sol Haven’s expedition headquarters.

Rhyder stood at its head, studying the illuminated energy zones scattered across the holographic globe while senior officers, Elemental commanders, and scientific personnel gathered around him to examine the intelligence recovered from the underground facility.

Raviah stood beside him with her arms folded, her eyes locked on the marked regions.

"The facility identified dozens of major energy concentrations," Elias reported, his voice projecting clearly through the main display.

"Several are located beyond our current territory, and the largest appears beneath an abandoned metropolitan center, where the Primordial energy concentration has already reached an extreme level."

A low murmur rippled through the room as officers exchanged uneasy glances.

"Can these zones strengthen our Elementals?" A commander asked, stepping forward.

"Potentially," Elias answered, adjusting the scanner parameters on his terminal. "However, we do not know whether the energy is stable or whether the locations contain hostile organisms, so approaching them without proper reconnaissance would be dangerous."

"Then we secure them before someone else does," Rhyder declared, his voice cutting through the rising whispers.

Silence instantly claimed the room.

He enlarged the map with a single swipe of his hand, highlighting the territories surrounding Sol Haven.

"Our current defenses are sufficient to protect the fortress, but remaining here indefinitely will leave us blind to developments beyond our perimeter. The unidentified arrivals have already demonstrated the ability to evade our detection systems, and we cannot assume they will ignore these energy zones."

Raviah nodded slowly, recognizing the truth in his logic.

The facility had revealed a planetary network of energy concentrations, proving the Primordial Source was no longer a distant mystery as its influence spread across Earth, creating conditions neither humanity nor existing evolutionary species fully understood.

"If our enemies are searching for the same thing," Raviah said, tracing the glowing border with her finger, "then these zones may become strategic objectives."

"Exactly," Rhyder replied, turning his gaze toward the assembled commanders.

"We will expand our alliance’s operational territory in stages by establishing forward observation posts beyond the northern and western boundaries, securing viable supply routes, and investigating the nearest energy zones without disturbing their internal systems until we understand what we are dealing with."

"And the abandoned city?" Raviah asked, gesturing toward the crimson marker.

His gaze shifted toward the enormous red light pulsing at the center of the display. "That will be our primary objective, but not our first direct engagement, because we need reliable intelligence before committing a major force."

"Good," she said, pointing directly at the city. "The underground structure is already active, and whatever is down there may have been awakened by the same event that activated the ancient facility, so we should not assume it will remain dormant while we prepare."

"Which is why the first expedition leaves today," Rhyder said before issuing the formal deployment orders.

Within minutes, Sol Haven’s expedition headquarters transformed into a hive of coordinated activity.

Engineers inspected armored transports, technicians calibrated portable energy scanners, and medical teams packed emergency supplies into crates. Elemental squads divided into reconnaissance, defense, and rapid-response units, their faces set with solemn resolve.

Raviah personally reviewed the medical inventory.

With a subtle movement of her mind, she accessed her spatial dimension, retrieving core stabilizers, high-grade recovery solutions, biological containment equipment, and portable diagnostic instruments, placing them directly onto the steel loading tables.

She turned to the surrounding medical staff, her tone unyielding. She insisted that every team carry enough supplies to survive independently if communication with Sol Haven failed.

"Any unexplained mutation, unstable core, or unknown biological signature must be reported immediately," she instructed the medical officers. "No one absorbs unfamiliar cores without prior assessment, as we do not know what these energy zones will do to the human body."

Rhyder approached her as she checked the last item off her inventory list.

"You are preparing as though we are going to war," he noted, watching her lock down a medical crate.

"We might be," she replied without looking up.

He glanced at the stacked medical crates before raising his eyes to hers. "You intend to join the expedition?"

"I intend to supervise the medical and biological investigation," she said firmly.

"Raviah," he said, his voice dropping an octave.

"Rhyder," she countered, meeting his gaze directly.

He looked at her for a long moment, the tension between them holding steady until he let out a breath.

"At least remain with the central convoy," he said, resting a hand briefly near her shoulder. "If anything happens, I want you where our defenses are strongest."

She smiled faintly, the edge of her sternness softening. "I will try not to make you regret bringing me."

"You have already accomplished that several times," he murmured, a faint smirk tugging at his lips.

"And yet you keep bringing me along," she noted.

His expression softened for a fleeting instant before he turned back toward the waiting officers to finalize departure logistics.

By midafternoon, the first major expedition beyond Sol Haven rolled out through the steel gates.

Three armored transports led the convoy, followed by two mobile laboratories and a reinforced supply vehicle, while Elemental escorts marched along both flanks, their hands ready to unleash their abilities at the first sign of hostiles.

The convoy crossed the outer agricultural perimeter, rolling past cultivated fields into unfamiliar, scarred lands. Behind them, Sol Haven’s towering walls gradually disappeared into the grey haze.

Ahead lay ruined settlements, mutated forests with grotesque foliage, and asphalt roads fractured by the violent changes that had reshaped the planet.

Portable scanners inside the transport operated continuously, detecting scattered elemental fluctuations, though nothing approached the intensity recorded beneath the abandoned city.

For several hours, the journey proceeded without incident, the engine rumbles masking the silence of the wasteland.

Then, interference crackled through the speakers as the lead scout’s voice erupted through the communication channel, "Expedition headquarters, this is Forward Reconnaissance One. We have reached the city’s outer approach."

Rhyder leaned over the central communications console, pressing the receiver. "Report your findings."

A brief, tense silence followed the command.

The console beeped, and the scout transmitted an image directly to the primary screen. The display flickered twice before resolving into a panoramic view of the abandoned city’s perimeter.

Raviah stepped closer, her eyes widening as she stared at the high-definition feed.

A colossal wall surrounded the entire metropolitan area, rising far above the ruined skyscrapers beyond it. Its dark surface stretched across the horizon without a single visible gate or defensive tower, and strange silver markings glimmered along its immense structure like living veins.

The scout’s voice returned over the speaker, strained with disbelief. "General, this wall was not recorded on any pre-apocalypse map, and we believe it appeared after the collapse."

Before Rhyder could respond, Raviah gasped as her core pulsed violently inside her chest, reacting to an invisible wave of energy.

On the screen, the silver markings beneath the wall began to shine with blinding intensity. Moments later, the armored transport shuddered violently as an enormous impact from the other side shook the ground beneath them.
