Chapter 238: Fairies!

Chen Xuan had many guesses regarding the Nine Origins’ true appearance.

He wondered whether they were shiny liquids, primordial wisps, or even orbs akin to the World Origin Seed.

However, no matter how many guesses he had made, he believed there was no way he could have been correct.

That was because the Nine Origins were not objects at all! Much to Chen Xuan’s astonishment, they were actually living, breathing beings!

"Woo! Woo! Woo!"

The moment they exited the System’s spatial storage and appeared in reality, several muffled sounds echoed.

Before Chen Xuan’s eyes, nine different creatures materialized.

They were tiny, barely the size of a human palm. Their entire bodies seemed to be created from light, each possessing a different color.

Blue. White. Red. Orange. Green.

Although their appearance was somewhat difficult to make out, Chen Xuan could see that they all resembled human females, aside from the pair of delicate wings stretching from their backs.

Their figures were slender and graceful, with delicate features and petite bodies that seemed almost too perfect to be real.

Their long hair flowed freely behind them, formed from the same radiant light as the rest of their bodies. Their wings were translucent and beautiful, occasionally scattering faint specks of light as they fluttered.

There was an almost ethereal quality to their appearance. They were beautiful in a way that didn’t seem entirely human.

For a moment, a creature from Chen Xuan’s past life came to mind.

Fairies!

The Nine Origins very much resembled the fairies in the myths of his previous life!

Not only in appearance, but also in behavior.

Apparently sensing Chen Xuan’s gaze, the faces of the nine little fairies shone with curiosity.

With a flap of their wings, they approached him before beginning to dance around him. Their tiny figures flashed through the air, leaving behind faint trails of colored light.

Their eyes were fixed on his figure, as though they were trying to make out his true nature.

"Woo! Woo! Woo!"

The same muffled sounds came from their mouths, seemingly allowing them to communicate with one another.

Chen Xuan watched them for several seconds. He couldn’t understand a single word.

Yet judging from their expressions and movements, they didn’t seem to care about that in the slightest.

Instead, they continued circling around him with increasing excitement.

Being surrounded by them and seeing them flash around him at sonic speeds, Chen Xuan felt himself grow dizzy.

Even with his current cultivation, keeping track of all nine figures simultaneously was somewhat troublesome.

Just as he was about to stretch out his hand to forcefully stop them, the little fairies halted of their own accord.

They moved toward him. Then, they began rubbing their heads against his body affectionately.

"Woo! Woo! Woo!"

"Woo! Woo! Woo!"

Their cries grew even more prominent.

They seemed to want to communicate with Chen Xuan using them.

Having nine beautiful women rubbing themselves against him sounded like something every man yearned for.

However, Chen Xuan felt that the situation was not quite like that. Rather than saying that women were rubbing against him, he felt it was more like nine dogs were vying for his favor!

The thought made Chen Xuan’s expression somewhat strange.

Even so, the suddenness of their actions left him stunned.

He had never expected the mysterious Nine Origins, which the System had described as treasures capable of helping cultivators practice techniques and understand the Dao, to behave in such a familiar manner.

The fairy rubbing her head against his face seemed to have noticed something. She looked at Chen Xuan and then at her companions.

"Woo! Woo!" She opened her mouth and spoke seriously, immediately earning the attention of the others.

Unlike Chen Xuan, the little fairies understood each other’s meaning. Their conversation consisted entirely of strange cries, yet they seemed to have no trouble understanding one another.

From their expressions alone, Chen Xuan could vaguely tell that they were discussing enthusiastically, though he could not possibly know why.

After exchanging several more sounds, the fairies gradually drew closer.

Finally, a multicolored light flashed and their forms overlapped.

Much to Chen Xuan’s surprise, the nine fairies began to merge into a single figure.

The transformation did not take long. Only a few seconds later, the Nine Origins had disappeared.

In their place now stood a single humanoid female.

Her size was slightly larger than the fairies before her. At the same time, she appeared to have inherited their beauty, making her even more captivating.

The nine different colors that had previously belonged to the separate fairies now seemed to blend together within her body.

Her wings were larger as well, and the light surrounding her figure was noticeably denser. The faint colors that had once been separated now flowed together naturally, giving her body an even more mysterious and harmonious appearance.

For some reason, looking at her gave Chen Xuan an even stranger feeling.

He could tell that the nine individual fairies had not disappeared completely but had merely temporarily become one. As long as they wanted, they could regain their original form.

Just as Chen Xuan was trying to process what was going on, a soft voice rang out.

"Master! Master!"

This time, Chen Xuan was surprised to find that he could understand what she was saying.

The contents of the woman’s words, however, left him speechless.

Clearly, the Nine Origins had regarded him as their Master.

Was this because he was the first person the Nine Origins had seen after their appearance in this world, or was it due to the influence of the System? He couldn’t possibly know.

There was simply too little information.

Still, looking at the happy smile on the fairy’s face and watching her dance around him, Chen Xuan had to accept it for now.

He didn’t mince his words and moved straight to the topic.

"Why do you call me your Master?"

"Why is your appearance like this?"

He asked the two most pressing questions in his mind.

The fairy appeared to be surprised by his confusion. After a brief pause, however, she quickly responded.

"Master, you’re our Master because you’re our Master!" She gave an answer that was completely nonsensical before moving on to the second question.

Chen Xuan’s expression stiffened.

What kind of answer was that?

For a moment, he even wondered whether the intelligence shown by the Nine Origins was real or if they were just imitating intelligent life.

Fortunately, the fairy continued speaking before he could dwell on the matter.

"As for why our appearance is like that..." The fairy placed a finger against her lips.

She seemed to be trying to recall something. Soon, she found the answer.

"Master! Master! I know! This is not our true form!"

"This is due to your influence! We altered our appearance in order to match your own aesthetics!"

"This is the form we detected you’d prefer us to be in! Otherwise, we could have easily turned into anything else!"

Her happy voice echoed as she leaned closer and began rubbing her face against him once again.

Chen Xuan, though, didn’t react.

Was the beautiful appearance of the Nine Origins his own fault?

Impossible! He couldn’t believe it!

How could he, a trustworthy man without the slightest impure thought, possibly affect their appearance in this way?

The fairy was clearly lying! She was absolutely slandering him!

With that thought, the way Chen Xuan stared at the fairy changed.

A trace of wariness flashed across his eyes, as though he had deemed her a potential enemy.

The fairy seemed completely unaware of his thoughts.

She continued smiling innocently, her wings fluttering lightly behind her.

Perhaps because it was a System reward and the value of the Nine Origins excited him, or simply because he knew it was all nonsense, Chen Xuan didn’t try to harm her.

After slowly pushing her away, much to her disappointment, he continued on with his next question.

"What is your use?"

"I know that the Nine Origins were born during the creation of the Immortal World. However, how can that help me?"

This was actually what Chen Xuan wanted to know the most. The System’s description had been far too vague.

It had merely stated that the Nine Origins could be used to practice techniques and understand the Dao.

But what exactly was an Origin? Why were they created alongside the Immortal World?

And what made the Nine Origins so valuable that even the System regarded them as a reward worthy of being placed together with the World Origin Seed?

Chen Xuan had no answers to any of these questions.

Originally, he had been prepared to investigate on his own.

Now that he came to know that the Nine Origins were actually conscious, he found it far more convenient to simply ask them directly.

After all, who could possibly know more about the Nine Origins than the Nine Origins themselves?

Sure enough.

Upon hearing his question, the fairy didn’t show any confusion.

The disappointment at Chen Xuan’s rude actions disappeared.

Her eyes glowed.
