DMS Chapter 264
Flinx and his friends started their journey to the castle awarded to him by Ilioven at around six in the morning, and they arrived around lunchtime. They spent a couple of hours exploring the castle, and afterward, they ate a late lunch.
After eating, they started exploring again.
This time, they took things more slowly. Flinx, Paul, Mark, and Olivia started talking about the things they could do with such a huge castle.
After discussing it seriously, they realized that it wouldn’t be practical for them to move there.
Even though the castle was large enough to accommodate all of them, the problem was its distance from the dungeons in Ilioven.
It simply wasn’t practical for them to move there because the delvers needed to go to the dungeons every day.
That meant the best thing Flinx could do with the castle and its territory was to use his magic to ensure that it generated enough income for him to help with the compound’s finances. With the stipend from the guild and the crown added to the earnings from the castle and Olivia’s shops, Flinx had the potential to become extremely wealthy without doing anything more.
“I don’t want to bother with that. More than likely, I’ll just leave the responsibilities to Demos and Reginald. I’ll make sure they’re well compensated so they won’t complain too much. I’ll even hire them their own secretaries if they want them,” Flinx said.
“I think that’s the best thing you can do. We can still treat this place as a vacation spot, so it would be best for us to make it as beautiful as we can using spells,” Paul said.
With that thought in mind, they went looking for Flinx’s two secretaries. They had already been talking to the people managing the castle for several hours, so they had probably gathered some of the details they needed to understand the castle’s current status.
The servant acting as their tour guide led them to the butler’s office. When they arrived, they saw that the butler was still talking to Demos and Reginald.
They all moved to the library so they could discuss the details of the castle and its lands in a larger room.
They gathered around a table that had a map of the castle and its territory. For the next few hours, they discussed the castle’s status in detail, including the number and quality of its servants, the farmlands and the farmers managing them, the types of produce grown on the castle’s farmlands, and finally, the total income the castle generated.
Demos and Reginald told Flinx, Paul, Mark, and Olivia that currently, only around ten percent of the castle’s earnings were being saved.
The rest was spent on managing the castle and its farmlands, including the salaries of the servants and guards, food expenses for everyone, and all the necessary expenses required to keep the farmlands running.
In truth, the responsibility of managing the castle and its farmlands was beginning to overwhelm Flinx.
Flinx metaphorically slapped himself to reset his thinking.
Nothing of value came easily. The best thing he could do was look at the situation in a way that wouldn’t overwhelm him. He thought the best way to handle it was to speak with Demos and Reginald alone and ask them about the best way to manage the castle and its lands.
He would also have to tell them about the abilities he possessed that he thought could help increase the earnings of the castle’s farmlands. More than likely, the Druid spells he could copy using the Wizard’s Wish spell would help him greatly enhance the castle’s agricultural production.
Since the sun was setting, Flinx ended the meeting. It was time for them to return to Ilioven.
Flinx planned to teleport everyone back home so they wouldn’t need to travel.
Demos, Reginald, and the castle’s butler were amazed when Flinx explained that, with his Teleport spell, he could now travel back and forth instantly between the compound in Ilioven and the castle.
Flinx told Demos and Reginald to remain at the castle and continue finding out the details they needed to know about the estate. He told them that he would return once he had sent everyone back to Ilioven.
Paul and Mark asked the servant to tell everyone that it was time to gather where the cars were parked.
While walking toward the castle gates, Flinx, Paul, and Mark talked about the castle. They realized that Flinx would probably only use the castle and its lands as a source of income, but Mark promised that he would still create a design to beautify the castle with the help of the others, since they still wanted to use it as a vacation spot.
Paul and Mark already had a copy of the castle’s map because they had taken pictures of the one in the library using their tablets.
They had also taken several pictures of the different places inside the castle, but Mark told Flinx that the best thing they could do was create a design group consisting of several people who would handle the project of beautifying the castle.
Flinx told them that such a project wasn’t a priority. They needed to attend to more important things first, such as making sure everyone learned the Common Language so that their family members wouldn’t have to keep depending on the Tongue spell to communicate with the locals.
Paul mentioned that they were already working on that issue, but it would probably take some time before it resulted in smoother communication between the Earthlings and the locals.
Flinx told them that he would prioritize learning more about the castle and finding ways to increase its income before making it beautiful.
Once the castle was running smoothly and was being managed by someone he assigned as its manager, probably Demos or Reginald, or another person if they needed to hire someone, Flinx would then be able to turn his attention to other things, such as delving into Platinum-rank dungeons to search for class scrolls.
Once everyone had arrived and they had stored all the vehicles inside his fourth-tab space, Flinx began teleporting everyone in the group after making sure that he would be able to return to the castle without any problems.
He selected the castle’s foyer because it was large, grand, and easy to remember.
Still, Flinx took pictures and videos to make sure he would be able to remember the place without any problems.
Demos, Reginald, the castle’s butler, and several of the castle’s upper-ranking servants watched as Flinx began teleporting his friends back to the compound in Ilioven in batches.
Flinx saw awe and fear in the eyes of the castle servants.
Flinx thought that this was probably an advantage because it meant the castle servants would have to accept that the new owner of the castle and its lands was a powerful wizard.
They already knew about his power, but seeing Flinx demonstrate his abilities would drive home the fact that they would have to give him their utmost respect.
Once everyone was back at the compound and they assured Flinx that no one was missing, Flinx returned to the castle to continue his meeting with Demos, Reginald, and the castle’s butler.
The main goal of the meeting was to discuss how to increase the castle’s income.
The first thing Flinx did was ask the servants to lead them to a classroom where they could use a chalkboard. He wanted to write down some of the things that Demos, Reginald, and the butler needed to learn.
During the next two hours, the jaws of Flinx’s two secretaries and the castle’s butler dropped as Flinx listed the spells that could help plants grow faster, which in turn could greatly increase the castle’s income.
