DMS Chapter 166

On the way home to the compound, Flinx felt a little sad knowing that he would no longer be living with the four children. His only consolation was that they were still allowed to write letters to him. Not only that, he could visit them once every couple of months.

David, Arcio, Keero, and Violet would begin living as mage apprentices in the Mage Guild. The Mage Guild resembled a small town consisting of several mage towers where wizards and their apprentices lived. There were a total of eight mage towers in the guild, with one tower dedicated to each school of magic.

David would become an apprentice in the Evocation Tower, Arcios in the Enchantment Tower, Keero in the Transmutation Tower, and Violet in the Illusion Tower.

Between those towers were several structures managed by mages. These structures were different shops and facilities that served the wizards of the Mage Guild.

Flinx was surprised by how large the Mage Guild was, and he was even more surprised when he learned that this was only a branch. The true Mage Guild was located somewhere to the east and encompassed an entire kingdom.

In truth, Flinx was excited when he learned that. He decided that he would visit that kingdom when he had the chance.

His main concern was how Olivia, Ambrose, and Christopher would react when they learned that the four children would no longer be living with them.

Every member of his adopted family had grown close to each other and truly treated one another as family. The fact that the children’s separation happened so abruptly that they did not even have the chance to say goodbye would probably break their hearts a little.

The only consolation Flinx could offer was that they would still be able to see the children since they were allowed to visit them occasionally.

Once he arrived home, Flinx immediately went to his room to rest. He did not understand why he felt sad. The children had not disappeared. They had simply gone to study at the Mage Guild.

Even though he had been informed that visits were limited, the fact that he was a wizard meant that he could obtain permission to enter the Mage Guild if he insisted, even though technically, he was not a member.

They had even offered Flinx membership, but he told the wizards that he needed more information before making such an important decision. At that moment, his state of mind was not suitable for making a choice that could affect his future.

He knew that some of the wizards had looked at him strangely because he was so affected by the separation from the four children, even though, technically, they were not his family. The children were orphans whom he had taken in.

Flinx could not tell them that his adopted family was what kept him stable during the months he spent striving to reach the level required in his classes so he could rescue his fellow Earthlings.

He found it slightly ironic that he felt sad about separating from them when he had originally planned to leave them behind to explore the world.

He shook his head at his own foolishness and did not notice when he eventually fell asleep.

Flinx was startled awake.

When he checked the time, he realized that he had taken a nap for several hours. He decided to get rid of his drowsiness by swimming with Pondy.

When night arrived, and Olivia and her brothers returned home, Flinx told them what had happened with David, Arcio, Keero, and Violet.

For a moment, the three of them were extremely sad. However, Flinx saw that after a few minutes, they managed to pull themselves together.

“I’m sorry that the children didn’t have the chance to say goodbye to you three,” Flinx told them.

“It doesn’t matter since we can visit them in a week to check on them,” Olivia said.

“To be honest, I’m extremely happy for them. Ever since I met them, they have kept telling me that they wanted to become like you, a powerful wizard. Now they finally have the chance to achieve that dream,” Christopher said.

Olivia, Christopher, and Ambrose asked for details about the children’s magical talent testing. Flinx told them everything that happened in the Mage Guild, including the fact that he paid a huge amount of money for the four children to be treated as noble apprentices instead of ordinary apprentices.

“What does that mean?” Ambrose asked.

“It means they won’t be forced to do menial work, and their masters will focus more on teaching them.”

After that, Flinx reminded them that he would be leaving Ilioven the next day to begin exploring the world. He once again explained that he would frequently return using his Teleport ability, so they would still be able to see him a few times each month.

Olivia promised Flinx that she would make sure the compound remained well-maintained.

“You have to, because I’m quite sure my countrymen will be returning soon,” Flinx said with a smile.

After dinner that night, Flinx walked around the entire compound to ensure everything was in order. He renewed all the spells that required maintenance, checked that the solar lights were fully functional, and cleaned everything thoroughly using the various spells in his arsenal.

The next day, Olivia, Ambrose, and Christopher accompanied Flinx to Ilioven’s east gate as he began his journey.

He chose the east simply because he had learned that the kingdom where the main branch of the Mage Guild was located was in that direction.

They hired a carriage to travel to the east gate. During the ride, they talked about various things.

At least Flinx was not worried about Olivia and her brothers’ safety. The compound was protected by Pondy, while Olivia and the shop were guarded by the two Rockies.

Flinx’s elementals were extremely powerful because he had cast the Conjure Elemental spell using a thirteenth-level spell slot.

The truth was that Flinx was well-liked by many people because, despite being considered a powerful adventurer, he was extremely low-key. He had never used his strength to gain advantages over others, and he was even diligent about paying his taxes, which surprised many people.

When their carriage reached the east gate, the four of them said their final goodbyes, and Flinx finally left Ilioven.

However, his departure did not have a major impact because he had already told Olivia, Ambrose, and Christopher that he would be testing his Teleport ability, which meant he would likely return home almost every night.

After Olivia and her brothers left, Flinx considered retrieving the vehicle he had purchased and using it to begin his journey.

However, the weather was beautiful, so he decided to start his adventure by simply walking along the road.

He thought he would only use his vehicle once he became tired of walking.

As Flinx walked, he admired the beauty of the farms and fields that stretched across the land. He saw farmers working on their fields, and some of them even waved at him.

Flinx happily waved back, feeling glad that some people could find happiness even while doing what appeared to be difficult work.

Occasionally, a farmer riding a wagon pulled by an animal would pass him by. They would stare at him, probably finding it strange to see a man walking alone on the road without carrying anything.

The only reason they did not mistake him for a vagabond was because of the quality of his clothes and the adventurer guild card displayed prominently on his chest like a medallion.

Flinx did not want any trouble caused by misunderstandings. He did not want some ridiculous incident ruining his day because travelers looked down on him simply because he was alone and carrying nothing.
