Dungeon Miner Slave
DMS Chapter 224
Flinx teleported Dr. Mendez back to Earth. He told the doctor that they would arrive at the same alley where he had first transported him to the second world.
He asked Dr. Mendez if he needed help getting home, but since the location was well known to him, the doctor told Flinx that he could make his way home by himself.
Flinx then asked Dr. Mendez how much he owed him, even though he didn’t have anything suitable to pay him with. He did have gold coins and had been planning to hand some over, but Dr. Mendez told him that Paul had already paid him, and generously at that.
Since Flinx was still nervous about remaining on Earth for too long, he immediately returned to the second world.
He then chatted with Paul about his meeting with Dr. Mendez. Flinx told him that the meeting had gone well and that he appreciated the fact that Paul had already paid for the treatment.
“No need to worry about the payment. We brought enough treasure back from the second world that all of us are now considered extremely wealthy,” Paul told Flinx.
Flinx was glad to hear that all of them were doing well on Earth.
Those who had come from other countries had chosen to relocate near the others, and with everyone assisting them, the transition had gone smoothly.
Paul and Mark told Flinx that none of them had resumed working regular jobs.
Mark, who had been a wealthy businessman before he was kidnapped by the Torbal Slavers, simply allowed his relatives to continue managing the business he had left behind.
Mark was satisfied with the dividends his relatives gave him, and his wife and children were content with the arrangement. They had become even wealthier because of the treasure Mark had brought back from the second world.
Mark told Flinx through the chat system they were using that he had been honest with his family about everything that had happened to him.
At first, they had looked at him in horror, thinking that he had lost his mind.
Thankfully, the magic items he had brought back had finally convinced his wife and children that he was telling the truth.
The fact that the magic item Mark had chosen was a healing item capable of curing some of Earth’s deadliest diseases, including cancer, had left his family with little choice but to believe him.
The others had experienced similar reactions from their families.
Flinx asked them whether they weren’t worried that news of what they had experienced would spread and cause problems, similar to what happened in some movies and novels.
One example he gave was Firestarter by Stephen King.
“You think the government would kidnap us and perform some kind of experiment on us?” Paul asked, adding a laughing emoji.
Flinx simply responded with a shrugging emoji.
“At least the magic items you brought with you from the second world can only be used by you. That strange voice from the wild dungeon informed us of that fact,” Flinx said.
Their discussion then shifted to what they would do if the government started hunting them like the mutants in X-Men.
The problem was that they no longer had their classes and were essentially ordinary people. The only magical things they had left were the magic items that those who had accompanied Flinx into the wild dungeon had brought back.
Samuel sent Flinx a direct message, informing him that those who hadn’t joined them regretted it deeply because they had been unable to obtain any magic items.
Flinx sent a message to everyone, promising that if he found another wild dungeon, he would invite them again.
That made his friends happy, and with that, Flinx ended the chat.
Since it was only noon, Flinx told the two elves that they would resume their journey after lunch.
After he dispelled the log cabin, Elemendora and Arementil asked if they could stop at a village so they could purchase a cart and a horse.
“Why?”
“My sister and I want to take turns driving the cart. The one who isn’t driving can spend the time reading the books you gave us!” Arementil said.
He didn’t mention that they also planned to watch movies or play games while riding in the cart, while the other one drove the animal pulling it.
Flinx simply sighed and purchased a serviceable cart from his System Shopping Site.
He then cast Phantom Steed using a higher-level spell slot so that it would last longer. He made sure that the phantom steed took the same form as the donkey he had summoned previously.
The cart he purchased was a prop from a cosplay shop, but it was fully functional and came with all the equipment necessary to hitch the donkey to it.
None of them knew how to do it, but thanks to the internet, Flinx successfully hitched the donkey to the cart.
“You’ll need to learn how to drive it yourselves because I don’t know how,” Flinx told the two elven children.
During the first hour of using the cart, Elemendora and Arementil took turns concentrating on learning how to drive it.
They were fortunate that Flinx traveled at an extremely slow walking pace. Because of that, they were able to learn how to operate the cart in only an hour.
It also helped that the donkey wasn’t a real animal but a summoned creature, which meant that it was extremely obedient.
Flinx thought that even if the two elves didn’t use the reins, they could probably control the cart simply by telling the Phantom Steed, in the form of a regular donkey, where to go.
He told the two children this, and they both gaped at him.
They dropped the reins and simply told the donkey to follow Flinx.
The summon immediately obeyed.
That made the two elves extremely happy because it meant that they could do whatever they wanted in the back of the cart without having to worry about controlling the donkey.
Soon, the road had become the route of a strange group of travelers.
A man was walking slowly along the road, frequently stopping to admire the scenery.
Behind him followed a donkey pulling a cart with two elves sitting in the back, completely focused on what the locals would probably consider strange magical devices.
At least the cart was far enough behind Flinx that he could forget it was following him. That allowed him to maintain the illusion that he was still traveling alone.
They continued avoiding the villages they passed because the two elven children remained wary of their pursuers.
More than likely, any villagers would also talk if someone asked them about the two elves’ appearance in their village.
When the sun set, Flinx dispelled the donkey and stored the cart in the fourth tab of his inventory.
They then stopped beside the road, and Flinx conjured his log cabin.
The three of them rested comfortably that night.
The next day, they resumed their journey.
This time, however, they encountered other travelers because they were traveling between nearby villages and a town. Farmers frequently traveled along the road to bring produce from their farms to the town to sell.
Since Flinx didn’t want to draw attention to the two elven children, he cast Minor Illusion on them, making them appear to be ordinary human teenagers.
Flinx also created the illusion of another teenager, making it appear as though three teenagers were riding in the cart.
He thought it was a clever disguise. To anyone who passed them, it would look like three human teenagers and their older relative traveling together rather than two elven children and a human man.
Whenever another traveler approached, either Elemendora or Arementil would scramble into the driver’s seat so that it appeared someone was actually controlling the cart.
They continued avoiding the nearby villages because they had no reason to enter any of them. Flinx had been providing everything they needed.
They did, however, have to enter the forest whenever they wanted to set up Flinx’s log cabin. They couldn’t simply make a cabin suddenly appear beside the road where passing travelers might notice it.
