Dungeon Miner Slave
DMS Chapter 55
The next day, when it was still dark, Flinx exited from his wagon, cast his Mage Armor, Stoneskin, and Fly spells, commanded his familiar to fly ahead, then he started flying to the east, following the road, since Camryn and Oliman told him that the road would lead to Ilioven. He did not want to do another goodbye session with his merchant friends. They already knew he was leaving that day.
Flinx flew high enough that he wouldn’t be too noticeable from the ground, but he made sure that he could still see the road since it was his only guide, aside from his compass, since the city of Ilioven was to the east.
Pip, his owl familiar, was far ahead of him, and he was using its eyes to scout ahead. Based on the speed of his flight, Flinx felt that his travel speed would be a hundred times faster than the caravan, especially since he was not planning on stopping anywhere, unlike the caravan, which planned to stop in towns and villages for one to two days each.
Flinx ignored the things that he saw on the ground and in the forest, like groups of monsters, which were too low leveled for him to bother killing them, or groups of people on the road and off the road. He didn’t care if they were normal travelers or bandits.
Flying in the sky felt like the ultimate freedom for Flinx. Spreading his arms to catch the wind, his face bathing on the smell of the air filled him with happiness. He wasn’t experiencing any pain from the strength of the wind because of his Mage Armor and Stoneskin spell.
At first, Flinx thought that flying the whole day would be boring since, unlike staying inside a wagon, wherein he could surf the internet all day long, he could not do something like that, but after several hours, he still loved the feeling of flying, and he could probably fly forever. He suddenly wondered how it felt to fly in the middle of a storm. If something like a storm occurred, Flinx thought that he should be safe since he did have his Mage Armor and Stoneskin spells active. He then wondered if Stoneskin could protect him from lightning. Thankfully, no such thing occurred that day, and the weather remained fair.
Flinx continued flying and did not stop even when noon arrived. He thought that he would, so he could eat, but he wasn’t feeling any hunger, so he decided to continue flying.
He saw travelers on the road, and based on their appearance, they were just farmers and merchants. Flinx was amused when he saw some kids accompanying their farmer parents, pointing at him. He saw the kids’ parents gesturing at them, probably saying that the thing in the sky was just a bird.
Flinx also passed by a couple of villages, but he didn’t get near enough to those places to be noticed by the people there.
Thankfully, Flinx could refresh his spells while he was in the sky, so he usually did before the duration of the Fly spell ended. That was the main reason why he could not let himself go and take a nap while flying, since if he didn’t refresh the Fly spell, he would be brought down to the ground. Even if he didn’t refresh the spell, after a minute, the spell would safely bring him down to the ground. That mechanic alone made the Fly spell extremely invaluable to Flinx.
When the sun started to set, Flinx started searching for the best place to camp for the night. Before it became too dark, he simply chose a location near the road. He flew down, cast his Galder’s Tower, and entered his abode for that night. He didn’t cast any of his planned defensive spells, since based on what he had seen, nothing powerful enough was nearby threaten his safety while he was in the tower.
The first thing Flinx did was take a very luxurious and extremely long hot bath. He didn’t get out of the tub, not until he resembled a prune. The hot water drained the cold that permeated his body and relaxed all of his muscles. After he was done bathing, he ate one of the meals that he cooked and slept.
The next time he opened his eyes, Flinx checked the time and was startled to see that he had slept for 10 hours straight. He guessed that all that flying did tire him. After dealing with his bodily needs, he dispelled his Galder’s Tower and started flying again after casting his defensive spells.
Pip still flew ahead of him so he would receive a warning if anything threatening was nearby. For the next three days, Flinx’s journey to Ilioven became routine. He would fly the whole day and rest inside his Galder’s Tower when night arrived. The magical house was truly convenient and comfortable. The fact that it could become a permanent structure if a wizard continued casting the spell on the same place for a year made the spell truly one of the best. A wizard could even dispense with that one-year requirement if a ritual was conducted, but he didn’t know anything about that. He just read it from the internet and was not sure if the Earthlings transmigrator gifts changes on the spell system that was copied from the most famous tabletop roleplaying game had that option. Flinx wouldn’t be surprised if his system had that option since the Earthlings’ gift was truly overpowered.
On the fifth day of his journey, while resting inside his tower, Pip informed him that a group of men and women was near his tower. Flinx used his familiar’s eyes to check who the group were and based on their clothing, they looked to be young adventurers. He couldn’t detect any iota of magic on the two men and two women, who looked to be in their early to mid-twenties, like Flinx. That meant that they were all warriors. They were all sporting swords, knives, and bows.
Flinx was surprised that the four people were fearless. They went to his tower, and one of them started knocking on his door. If it were him, he wouldn’t go straight to a beautiful tower that was suddenly beside the road.
Flinx went to his door and opened it. He wasn’t afraid of the four youths.
“How can I help you?”
“Good evening. We’re an adventurer group that has a mission to kill monsters in the nearby village. We passed by this part of the road and knew that there wasn’t a tower here, but now there was, and we’re curious,” One of the men said. He was probably the oldest.
“My name is Ogden, this is my brother, Mervin, and the two women are our cousins Helga and Relita,” the guy who called himself Ogden continued.
“I’m Flinx, and I’m a gold-level wizard adventurer. This is my traveling tower. I carry it with me wherever I go. Please come in, we can talk inside,” Flinx invited the youths.
The four young people looked extremely surprised. Flinx didn’t know if they were surprised at him being a gold-level adventurer or at him being a wizard, or maybe even at his age, since he did look the same age as them.
“I’m sorry to bother you, sir, but is it all right for us to come in?” the one called Helga said.
“No bother. I already opened my door, so it’s fine.”
Flinx invited the four young men and women. He wasn’t afraid of them, since his Mage Armor should be able to protect him from any sudden attack. He invited them because he wanted to ask them questions regarding being adventurers in Ilioven.
