Dungeon Miner Slave
DMS Chapter 57
“We realized now that we’re wrong in approaching a strange tower that suddenly appeared near the road, but at the very least, we trusted you because of the Adventurer Guild Token that you’ve shown us when you introduced yourself to us,” Helga said, although Flinx could still detect a hint of surliness from the girl.
“I’ve shown you my token when you’re already inside my tower! That meant that when you entered my place, you still didn’t know that I’m a member of the guild,” Flinx said.
Helga blushed so did Relita when Flinx pointed out Helga’s mistake in her reasoning.
“I’m just saying all of these things so that you’ll be more careful in the future.”
“We understand, and we’ll be more careful. How old are you anyway?” Relita asked.
When Flinx told them that he was 25 years old, the girls were surprised.
“I thought you’d be older since you behave like my pa. He used to be an adventurer, but he’s retired now to stay with the family,” Relita said.
“Do I look old?!” Flinx exclaimed, looking dismayed that others would think him an older man.
Helga and Relita laughed when they saw his expression.
“No. It’s just that since you’re a wizard, we thought that you use your magic to make yourself appear young,” Helga said while laughing.
“Well, I’m only 25! I don’t have a spell that can make me look young,” Flinx said, but then he paused when he thought of his Minor Illusion spell.
“Well, I do have an illusion spell, but as I’ve said, I’m only 25,” Flinx reiterated.
Just like with the boys, Flinx served the girls more beer so they would have something to drink while he grilled them for information about the lives of young adventurers. At the very least, the girls were not boastful and were more truthful about the missions that they had completed. He learned a lot from the young adventurers and thought that the food and drink that he served them was worth it.
Flinx thought that even if he hadn’t learned anything, their companionship alone was enough since it did make him a little happy that night. Besides, being with young people like them brought home the fact that for the longest time, his company was all older people.
Soon, the boys returned from the second floor. Flinx offered to let them stay on the first floor to sleep. They would still have to use their sleeping bags, but at the very least, the living room was a lot more comfortable than the ground outside. The four young adventurers also had access to the bathroom on the second floor, and there was hot and cold water on the sink in the kitchen.
It was late when Flinx went to his bedroom on the third floor. His talk with the adventurers lasted until very late. While they were talking, they munched on the snacks that he purchased from his System Shopping Site and drank some sodas. They talked about everything they could think of, and Flinx enjoyed the conversation.
While he was on his bed, Flinx reflected on the fact that he was lonely. He needed company and thought that maybe partying with other adventurers while leveling up was the best way for him to heal. If he continued soloing his shenanigans, Flinx thought that he might truly become a non-functional bat-shit crazy person.
The adventurers invited him to go with them to their town, but Flinx declined. He wanted to reach Ilioven as soon as possible. He wanted to start leveling up since he truly wanted to rescue his fellow Earthlings from those damned wizards. He wondered why those crazy shits chose to kidnap people. With all their powers, they could have mined mana stones by hiring people. Their magic would allow them to earn a lot of wealth, and they could afford to pay people. More than likely, their race was just like that, a cruel and stupid race.
Flinx stopped thinking about those wizards. During the years that he spent as a dungeon miner slave, the same thought had gone through his mind countless times, and he didn’t want to think about them again, except perhaps someday when it was time to get his revenge on them.
A seed had grown deep inside Flinx. The seed of revenge. If he were successful in rescuing his fellow earthlings, it meant that there would be a group of people who could level up and become powerful. Once they had all become extremely overpowered, they would return to the lands of the wizard and destroy them. He could even think of his future revenge as serving justice, since if they managed to destroy the wizard enslavers, their act of enslaving other people would stop.
While thinking about killing the wizards that enslaved him and the other Earthlings, Flinx felt a little gleeful, and soon he was asleep.
Flinx woke up early the next day. After a quick breakfast and a shower, he went to the first floor and was surprised to see the four adventurers still asleep in their sleeping bags. He thought that they would be gone by the time he went down since it was already eight in the morning.
“Guys! Wake up, you sleepy heads! It’s time for me to leave.” Flinx said to the four with a loud voice to wake them up.
He giggled when he heard them grumbling, but obediently woke up and started cleaning up their things. Flinx sat on one of the chairs while he waited for them to be done. Thankfully, it didn’t take them long.
Once everyone was outside, the four young adventurers stared at Flinx. He knew that they were waiting for him to make his tower disappear. He didn’t want to disappoint them, so he made a show of dispelling the Galder’s Tower spell.
The young adventurers’ eyes grew wide upon seeing the tower disappear.
“I had fun last night,” Flinx told them, then he cast his defensive spell and the Fly spells and started flying.
He looked back at the four once to wave goodbye at them, and they were gaping at him like idiots. Flinx just laughed and continued flying to where Ilioven were. Flinx didn’t plan on stopping at any villages or towns along the way.
For the next few days, Flinx's journey had become routine. He would fly during the day and would rest in his tower at night. He hadn’t receive anymore visitor after the four young adventurers, since other travelers sensibly avoided a weird tower that suddenly sprouted beside the road when there was none before.
Soon, he saw the walls of Ilioven in the distance and was glad that he finally arrived at the huge capital city of Ilioven in the kingdom of Ilinestor.
Flinx cast the Invisibility spell, flew down among the trees, and dispelled his spells. He plans to enter the city on foot. He didn’t want to draw attention to himself.
There were a lot of travelers on the road, and they were a mix of people. Some were like him who was walking. Others were mounted, and some were inside carriages and wagons. The road became incredibly busy once he got near Ilioven. It was noisy, reminiscent of a major city back on Earth.
Soon, the road turned from dirt into cobblestones. The cobblestone road started from a tollbooth manned by a few guards. Based on his understanding of watching the scene, they were part of the guards patrolling the roads to make sure that the outside of the walls of Ilioven remained peaceful.
