Dungeon Miner Slave
DMS Chapter 67
Flinx saw that the four kids were done inspecting their rooms on the second floor and had claimed the bedrooms they wanted. So they all headed to the third floor to inspect the bath and the toilets. The bath had three small toilets and a large room that contained a huge bathtub. There was also a shower beside the bathtub.
He taught the four kids how to use the knobs that needed to be turned to use hot or cold water. He also taught them how to use the toilets, like flushing them and using the bidet. The kids were fascinated by the functions they found in the bathroom. To them, everything they saw was magical.
After the bathroom, he even brought them to the fourth floor so they could see Flinx’s bedroom, which looked like just an ordinary bedroom. He saw the kids were a little disappointed at his bedroom, and when he asked, Flinx was amused to learn that they were expecting some sort of magic paraphernalia in his room.
“Let’s return to the living room. We will need to talk more about our situation,” Flinx told the four orphans.
Flinx saw that his statement caused the four children some anxiety. Once they were seated in the living room, he started explaining to them some things.
“Now, regarding our situation, when I said that I wanted servants, I meant it. Even though it seemed like I’m treating you well because I’m giving you each one of you your own room, I’m expecting you to work by making sure that the tower remains clean. I’m expecting the four of you to cook and complete all errands that need to be done. I also require that all four of you become literate.”
“What is literate?” Runt asked.
Flinx was flabbergasted.
“That means knowing how to read and write!”
The four kids groaned but immediately accepted Flinx’s requirement.
“We don’t know how to cook,” Flea said quietly.
The statement by Flea made Flinx pause. He should have expected that the four orphans knew very few practical things that make a home. They had been living in an impoverished orphanage and were then thrown out into the streets upon turning 10 years old.
After thinking a bit, Flinx thought of a good idea.
“I think the best thing for me to do is hire someone to teach you all the things that you will need, like read, write, clean, and cook!”
The four kids just shrugged when they heard what Flinx had said regarding hiring someone.
“Now, the next thing I need to talk to you about is the tower,” Flinx was about to tell them he would need to cast the Galder’s Tower spell once every 24 hours to make sure it remained, or else it would disappear.
He was about to tell them that it would only take three months before the tower turned permanent. Suddenly, he thought of one important thing. First, the duration of the one-year requirement decreased because he put the spell in the 5th spell slot. What if he put it into the 7th-level spell slot?
The good thing about his spells that had a duration like his armor spells or the tower spell was that even if he removed the spell from the spell slot after casting them, and slotted another spell, the active spell remained. That meant that even if he put Galder’s Tower spell in the 7th level spell slot and cast it, he could remove the Galder’s Tower spell immediately and return the more important attack spells like the Crown of Stars.
The important thing that he just saw upon reviewing the description of the Galder’s Tower spell was that once it was slotted on the 7th-level spell slot, the one-year requirement was actually reduced to three weeks. So basically, the Galder’s Tower spell in the 3rd level spell slowed would need to be cast for a year to become permanent. Every slot higher than the 3rd-level spell slot would decrease the duration requirement by half.
Also, he would need to increase the number of floors, since he now intended to hire a tutor cook for the kids. He decided to hire the cook slash tutor first before redesigning the tower, since the tower would need to remain the same for the mechanics of letting it become permanent activate.
“What?!” Runt said that when they saw Flinx pause for longer than they expected.
“Sorry about that. Since we’re going to hire a tutor slash cook, we need to change the tower to include another room, since I decided that the tutor cook that I will hire would need to stay with us. We also need to go to the place where we can register your identity. I don’t like your names. They’re a little degrading.”
“We planned to change them once we’re old enough to become adventurers!” Runt complained.
“Since I have the funds, let’s change them now. I don’t want to keep calling you those names. First, you, Runt, what name do you want?”
“I want the name, David! He’s a hero in one of the stories that Sister Nona told us,” Runt said.
“Fine by me. From now on, you’re David.”
After that, Flinx asked the other three what names they wanted. He understood then that the kids already had names they wanted for themselves, and all of them came from the stories that the nun from the orphanage had told them.
Kid wanted the name Arcios, which was also the name of a hero from legends. Dirt wanted the name Keero, a hero’s name as well, and Flea wanted the name Violet, because that was her favorite color.
While the kids were celebrating because of the names they had chosen for themselves, and the fact that they could change their names earlier than they had expected. Flinx thought that taking in the four orphans and a tutor for them would cost him coins. It wasn’t truly an issue because, first, by delving into a high-level dungeon, the materials he would receive from the dungeon monsters would earn him a considerable amount of wealth. He didn’t plan to spend any of the mana stones he would receive since his transmigration system required them. Second, his access to the system shopping site would allow him to earn a lot of coins as well.
Still, Flinx thought that the best thing they could do was to allow the kids and the person they would hire to have some sort of business. Maybe they could open a store. He thought that it was a good idea since the kids and their teacher would be able to have something to do while he was away inside the dungeon.
“So, where do we go to have your name changed?”
“I know! There’s a huge building that was supposed to be a place where one can go to if they wanted to become citizens of Ilioven! It’s two hours travel from here!” Runt, now David, excitedly told Flinx.
The five of them went out of the tower, and once they were outside, Flinx dispelled it. When the tower disappeared, the four children looked flabbergasted.
“Our tower’s gone!” the four of them exclaimed.
“I removed it since I’m planning to create a new one. I will need to add another floor where your teacher is going to live,” Flinx told them.
The kids understood, and they happily went outside. Once they were on the street, as per David’s suggestion, he flagged a carriage. Carriages that were for hire had a marking at the top by the driver’s head. Basically, like taxis back on Earth. Flinx paid a gold coin for the five of them to go to the place where one could register as a citizen of Ilioven. David complained so much that the driver charged them a high price for the five of them that Flinx had to shush him.
