DMS Chapter 74

Olivia watched Flinx walking away from them, heading towards the dungeon. She was still extremely amazed that she and her brothers managed to snag a job for a powerful diamond rank magic caster. The main thing was, Flinx, despite being extremely powerful, was generous and kind. The man didn’t hesitate to take in four orphans, and he also didn’t hesitate to take in a destitute woman with her brothers as the four kids’ tutor, despite her family’s dark reputation caused by his now dead gambling addict father.

She remembered the time when the family servants used to call her Lady Olivia. That was when her mother was alive, and his father was not a gambling addict. Their family was well-off, but then they fell. First, her mother died, and her father couldn’t recover from his grief and turned to gambling. Olivia’s father gambled away their entire fortune through business speculation, which finally caused her father’s death.

Olivia shelved the thoughts about her father at the back of her mind and girded her loins for the battle ahead. She knew that her fight against the experienced merchants would test her ability to haggle, which she learned through months of coin-pinching. She wanted to make sure that she would be able to squeeze the value of the coins Flinx gave her until the coins squealed.

Normally, Olivia would be worried while carrying such a large amount of gold coins that Flinx had given her to buy all the things that the tower would need to make it comfortable for everyone, but the presence of three powerful-looking stone golems comforted her.   

Olivia shook her head at Flinx’s magic. She had never seen a wizard conjure a tower out of nothing, and he did it so casually that it looked like it was an extremely simple action for him. Then Flinx conjured three powerful stone golems to guard them. Even now, a lot of people were staring at them since the golems looked extremely mighty. She wanted to giggle when she saw Christopher and Ambrose return to acting as if they were rich nobles again, simply because of the confidence that the golems gave them.

“Okay, everyone! Let’s go!” Olivia loudly announced.

One of the golems started pulling the cart they had just purchased to the delight of the four children, while Christopher and Ambrose walked beside her. One of the golems was walking beside the cart while the third one was walking behind, making sure that everyone was protected.

Olivia almost giggled when she noticed that pedestrians avoided their group. Suddenly, they heard someone shout at them.

“Halt! Who are you, and what are these creatures following you?”

When Olivia turned, she saw that it was a guard who shouted at them. She was thinking that one of the rich folks living here got scared seeing the golems and reported them to the guards.

“My name is Olivia Dumont, and these two are my brothers. The four kids on the cart are my charges. We’re serving the newly arrived Diamond Rank magic caster who purchased the land of the noble Faraway through the Merchant Vasquez. My employer summoned these three powerful golems to guard us,” Olivia said proudly, utilizing all the pride that she had learned to wield growing up as a minor noble.

“Are you talking about Flinx? I saw his rank-up battle against Semanor! He’s an extremely powerful wizard!” One of the guards said.

When the captain had heard that the golems were conjured by a powerful magic caster, he just told Olivia to go on with her business, but to make sure that the golems wouldn’t cause any trouble.

Those who heard what the captain had said regarding the golems scoffed, since according to stories, summoned golems wouldn’t cause any trouble as long as the summoner, or the one who was authorized to command the golems, wanted to create trouble, and based on Olivia’s group’s appearance, they were out for errands.

After the guards had left, the first place Olivia took everyone was where she could purchase clothes for everyone. The four children’s clothes were fine. They looked a little different, but they still looked like high-class clothing that nobles would wear. She and her brothers’ clothes, though, were truly bad.

She would prefer to have seamstresses and tailors create new clothes for them, but they would have to settle for ready-made clothes first. She wanted to look presentable while dealing with merchants. Once she completed all her purchases for the day, she and her brothers would go somewhere where they could order clothes to be made for them.

If she were being honest, the ready-made clothes were fine. It was just that she would prefer clothing that hadn’t been worn by anyone before. She laughed at herself for slowly returning to her previous behavior as a noble lady, even though she had only been an employee of Flinx for just several hours.

Once they reached the shop that was selling good clothes for her, she planned to spend less than an hour selecting a couple of clothes for herself. Before entering the shop, she commanded the golem to make sure that the four children wouldn’t run off, and she felt a little scared when she saw the golem focusing on the children.

She wondered what would happen if she suddenly went crazy and commanded the golems to kill the people who took their family assets. She shook her head at her silliness.

She then gave coins to her brother for them to buy clothes for themselves, reminding them to select the ones that would not shame Flinx. Christopher and Ambrose nodded and ran off. Normally, she would have asked one of them to look after the children, but the golems looked like they were capable of making sure that the kids wouldn’t run off. They even saw Keero suddenly running towards an acquaintance, but then one of the golems suddenly rushed towards the kid, scooped him off gently, and placed him inside the cart.

Instead of getting scared, Keero looked delighted. Once he was inside the cart, he ran off again, and the golem rushed to retrieve him. David, Arcio, and Violet’s eyes glinted when they saw what Keero had done. They looked at each other and suddenly started running off as well. Olivia, Christopher, and Ambrose were startled when the three golems moved. They moved so quickly that they couldn’t believe that the three golems were made of stone. The three golems brought the kids back, and then one of the golems rushed off again to retrieve Violet.

The kids were laughing so hard while the golems carried them to be placed inside the cart. At first, the surrounding folks were a little alarmed when they saw a huge-looking stone golem scooping a child off the street, but when they saw the kids were laughing and that they were placed inside a cart, they realized that the kids were just playing.

When Olivia and her brothers saw that the four kids were occupied and looked safe enough guarded by the golems, Olivia went inside the clothing shop while Christopher and Ambrose went somewhere else to buy their clothes.

Olivia shook her head at her silliness regarding keeping the four orphans safe. They grew up on the street and were probably more street savvy than she was. Upon entering the shop, Olivia thought that she would encounter rude shop attendants because of the state of her clothes, but everyone was extremely respectful to her. She knew then that the shop attendants saw her commanding the golems, and if they hadn’t heard the news that she was serving a magic caster, they probably thought that she was a sorceress.
