David, Arcio, Keero, and Violet kept on playing by running away from the cart. They found it funny that whatever they did, be it running as fast as they could or choosing to run in different directions, the three stone golems would immediately catch them and bring them back to the cart. What made it funnier for the kids was the fact that the golems were tireless and emotionless, but gentle when handling them. The golems didn’t get tired and didn’t get annoyed at their shenanigans.

While they were resting inside the cart after running around for several minutes, David reflected on their situation. Before yesterday, he would have been worried by this time if he hadn’t found anything to eat for himself and his friends. They couldn’t afford to just waste their time away playing and would focus on finding any job they could so they could purchase food.

Half of anything they would have earned that day would be taken in by one of the several gangs of street rats where they lived.

David remembered when Kid, now named Arcios, hid some of the coins they earned. The four of them, including Flea, who was now called Violet, received so many beatings that day when the other street rats somehow discovered it.

Now, here they were, just playing. Not worried about anything. Thankfully, Flinx was such a stupid git that the man took them in despite not knowing anything about them. David had to admit that he liked Flinx even though the wizard was incredibly stupid and naïve. Flinx was very powerful. Able to conjure a tower and powerful golems in an instant, but the man was, for some reason, kind enough to take them in. David couldn’t understand why Flinx did it.

At first, David was worried that Flinx was using kindness to lower their guard, and then the wizard would do something to them, like use them for magical experiments, just like in the stories, but the four of them felt the magic caster’s sincerity. Having been orphans since they were born and now surviving in the streets of Ilioven as street rats, their instinct towards bad men was extremely high. They had even experienced running away from people who wanted to shove their penises in their butts.

David believed when Flinx told them that he, too, was an orphan. The magic caster had this feeling on him that he, too, was just trying to survive, just like them. The difference was that Flinx could do incredible magic. David wished that he could learn magic. It would be incredible to be just like Flinx, conjuring everything they would ever need. You want a house?! Bam! There you go, a magic tower with magic things inside! You want clothes? Bam! There you go, clothes. You want something to guard you? Bam! There you go, magical stone golems.

David and the other three, for that matter, were looking at their mighty golems in appreciation. To David, the golems were extremely beautiful. He felt safe while the golems were near, since he thought that no one could defeat the golems; possibly, even the powerful adventurers wouldn’t be able to defeat the golems.

David remembered when he saw Flinx fighting with Semanor. The moment he saw Flinx up in the sky, flying like a god, he was filled with awe. Then Flinx suddenly cast several beautiful spells to attack the powerful warrior, and at that moment, Flinx looked like a mighty wizard, able to conquer the whole world with his magic! At that moment, David had decided that he would do everything he could in this world to become a magic caster, just like Flinx. Looking at his friends’ faces, he understood that they, too, came to the same decision. It was unfortunate that Flinx told them that he couldn’t teach magic. David didn’t know if it was true. Still, becoming part of Flinx’s household was enough. At the very least, becoming a servant of a powerful magic caster might give him a chance to learn magic someday.

“Runt, is that you?!” David heard a kid’s voice.

When he looked around, he saw that it was Booger. He was the boy that Keero tried to chase earlier. Booger was Keero’s friend, but they learned that Booger sold their location to one of those perverts who wanted to capture them to do bad things to them. Booger was three years older than them.

“What do you want, Booger?” David asked.

“Why are you dressed like that? Did you sell yourselves as butt toys?” Booger asked.

The four of them scowled at Booger, who didn’t get near them since the golems were there, guarding them.

“Asshole! We’re not butt toys! We were hired by a powerful magic caster! We’re now servants of Flinx! The new Diamond Rank wizard adventurer in the city. Don’t be mean to us or he’ll turn you into a frog and feed you to his pet snake!” Violet shouted at Booger.

“Flinx doesn’t have a pet snake,” Keero muttered, and Violet shifted her glare from Booger to Keero, who hid behind Arcios.

Booger just glared at them, then the older boy ran away. David knew that the older boy probably thought of taking advantage of them to earn some coins from Flinx, but dealing with a powerful magic caster was such a high risk that Booger must have decided not to have anything to do with them for now.

“Dirt! Don’t go near Booger again, or I’ll tell Flinx that you’re planning to do bad things!” David said to Keero.

“My name is Keero!” Keero shouted at David.

“Then be Keero and leave Dirt behind! Don’t go near Booger again, understood?!” David shouted at Keero, who nodded.

Staring at Keero, David understood that Keero wouldn’t try to approach Booger again. The older kid was a true bad egg, and none of them wanted to jeopardize their new situation with Flinx.

“Violet! Come here!”

The four kids heard Olivia’s voice. When they turned, they saw Olivia by the shop’s door, wearing a beautiful dress.

“Olivia, you look like a lady!” Violet said.

“I am a lady! Come here, then, so we can also turn you into a little lady. Flinx told me that I should start training you as a girl, so you can’t wear those clothes anymore.”

David saw Flea, now called Violet, rushing toward Olivia. He knew that Violet wanted to wear pretty things despite saying to them all the time that she liked boys’ things. He kept catching her watching the rich little girls walking on the streets with their pretty dresses, purses, and pretty hair accessories. The four of them thought that Violet would remain wearing boys’ clothes until they were all older. They just couldn’t take the chance to let anyone know that Violet was a girl. All the street rat gangs in the slum thought that Flea, now Violet, was just a small boy. They had seen what happened to girls in the slum.

David just wished that Flinx would stay and protect them long enough until they had grown enough in age and power so they could protect themselves. Maybe by the time Flinx was ready to move on, he would have found a way to learn magic. David knew that, being Flinx’s servant, the chance of his learning how to do magic was greater than usual. Since Flinx was a powerful wizard, there was a chance that other wizards would try to meet with him, and those wizards might be able to teach him magic.

He saw Olivia and Violet entering the shop, and the three boys knew that they still had time to play with the golems, so that was what they did.
