Elden Ring: Starting as Melina’s Sister
Ch. 27 Gotrek and Felix
Sigh, is Warhammer too fan-oriented?
The Ratmen had still caught up.
Mia had already guessed what means those Stormvermin used to make their subordinates obey.
The leaders of the Ratmen never cared about casualties; even if she could burn to death one hundred, one thousand Ratmen, there would still be ten thousand, twenty thousand emerging from who knows where.
This was the Skaven, the Vermintide.
It was this endless swarm of rats that, at the end of this world, submerged the Dwarf Kings, who were as strong as bedrock.
The swarm of rats was still chasing Mia and Wilden.
The girl was not familiar with the streets and alleys of this city; she didn’t even have much of a sense of direction.
She only remembered the direction the citizens had pointed out to her on the other side of the bridge before, and she was acting with the direction guided by grace as a reference.
The good news was that the Ratmen were just as unfamiliar with the alleys on the surface of Nuln as she was, and their extremely poor discipline made their pursuit even slower.
Mia heard sounds around her other than the roaring of the Ratmen and the screams of human victims.
The shouts of humans, the clashing of swords, and some sounds echoing in the air like thunder.
Connecting this to the background of this world, Mia believed those were the sounds of muskets firing.
This proved that she and Wilden were not fighting alone.
But Mia could only distinguish that those sounds were very close.
The alleys intersected between towering buildings, and the sounds had long been reflected by the walls, making it impossible to distinguish the direction.
Mia was walking in front of Wilden; she heard the shouts of battle almost right in her ears, and a Clanrat suddenly darted out from the only corner in front.
Even Mia, who was always prepared for battle, was startled by the Ratman suddenly appearing in her face, and she immediately mustered her strength and swung her sword to slash at it.
Felix dodged the slash of a serrated blade by turning to the side, then quickly raised his sword and thrust violently.
The longsword pierced through the gaps in the Ratman’s armor, then flicked upward, stabbing into its heart.
The Ratman let out a terrifying wail, clutched its chest, and fell down dead; Felix pulled his sword out the moment it hit the ground.
He looked around, observing this terrible melee.
To his left, a mercenary used the iron rod in his left hand to beat the brains out of a Ratman captain, while simultaneously using the sharp blade in his right hand to block the attack of another Ratman.
Further away came the battle cry of a Dwarf; it was the voice of Gotrek.
For now, it was hard to say which side had the advantage in the battle; the mercenaries were maintaining the battle line against the Ratmen, and this melee had also attracted the attention of others.
People swarmed out of the apartments on both sides of the road; some held simple weapons like kitchen knives and wooden clubs, while others held more threatening weapons like short swords and muskets.
They seemed determined that they would rather die in battle against these monsters than be killed in their own homes.
This was good, Felix thought, because the mercenaries were in need of assistance.
More and more Ratmen were attracted by the sounds of battle and joined the melee.
Just as he was thinking, a severed Ratman head came flying out of the dark alley, spinning, straight toward him; Ratman blood flowed from the broken blood vessels, forming black-red raindrops, and Felix hurriedly swung his sword to block it.
Blood splattered onto his face.
“Sorry!” A crisp, melodious voice like silver bells came from that black alley.
Felix looked over, and the first thing that entered his vision was a dazzling golden sword reflecting the firelight, and then, its owner, a golden-haired girl dressed in black with her eyes covered, walked out of the alley.
‘How strange, how can she see?’ Felix began to let his mind wander again.
He was deeply struck by the beauty of the girl in front of him; he felt the poet’s blood, which had been dormant for a long time since he was expelled from the university, gradually warming up in his heart, and a few lines of poetry he had once recited were almost about to burst out.
Then, his adventurer’s blood made him dodge another insidious backstab coming from behind, incidentally letting the deceased poet’s soul lie back down.
That backstab gave Felix a cold sweat; fortunately, he reacted quickly enough.
However, just as he was about to swing his sword to counterattack, a flame brushed past him.
A wave of heat struck, and the flame instantly evaporated the sweat on his face; the black-robed Ratman assassin was repelled by the flame.
Felix turned his head; the source of that flame was indeed the left hand extended by the blind girl in front of him.
Clearly, she was a mage.
This explained why the girl could see him even though her eyes were covered; mages always had some strange and unusual methods.
In that instant, Felix was elated by the addition of a powerful combatant, and then he saw another Soldier appear behind the girl, someone he had to look up to, wearing armor in the style of a Bretonia knight, the emblem on his surcoat obscured and barely visible due to the Ratman’s blood.
Felix noticed that he was not wearing the traditional, bulky great helm of a Bretonia knight, but rather an inconspicuous open-faced helmet with a nasal guard, covering his face with a mask.
He was so tall.
Felix remembered that someone had once rudely described his Dwarf friend as ‘a walking boar,’ so the Soldier in front of him could probably be called ‘a less wide Greenskin big’un.’ Of course, this was only a comparison of physique, not a comparison of combat power; Felix had not yet seen his Dwarf friend Gotrek lose to anything.
Felix keenly realized that this Bretonia knight on foot would also be a powerful combatant.
