Elden Ring: Starting as Melina’s Sister
Ch. 34 There was also something else
Wilden turned to look at the girl sitting on the ground, deep in thought.
He had seen with his own eyes the radiance of the Erdtree appear on her more than once.
That radiant light, blooming time and time again, made him feel reborn, as if he had returned to the era when the golden order was still intact.
Even though Mia’s Prayer could only last for a few minutes each time.
But it was in those few short moments pieced together from memories that he remembered the once bountiful and prosperous Golden Order.
Even if those memories did not align with the bloody battlefield.
Wilden remembered the beam of light he saw at the end of that journey.
“Wilden!” Mia suddenly interrupted the Soldier’s sentimentality.
The girl pointed to a certain spot in the room and asked him: “Can you still see this?” Wilden followed Mia’s gaze, but there was nothing there, only the floor.
“What can I see?” He turned his head toward Mia in confusion.
“…” Mia gazed at the spot she had just pointed to, the very place with the grace, lost in thought.
“I see.” It seemed that Wilden’s ability to see the grace was indeed related to traveling between worlds.
This was truly interesting.
Tarnished who died outside The Lands Between could see the guidance of grace upon returning to The Lands Between.
Yet the Erdtree Folk, born in The Lands Between, could see that same grace while outside The Lands Between.
Mia did not know if Wilden was a special case, and she currently lacked the conditions for a controlled experiment.
She would set this question aside for now.
Next was Mia’s reflection on the matter of traveling between worlds.
Whether it was the previous crossing in her dream or the return she achieved just now through meditation.
It all proved that the key to world traveling was her own consciousness, which was simultaneously deeply bound to the light of the grace.
She had understood the logic of it.
She really wanted to test if her theory was correct, but Mia dismissed the thought.
She needed to become stronger to have the confidence to deal with other worlds.
For now, Mia’s short-term goal in Limgrave was to find Master Sellen and learn Glintstone Magic.
This accidental trip to warhammer fantasy had been quite fruitful.
Most importantly, she had understood the essence of Prayer.
Now, she could use fire-based Prayer at will, shaping the flames into whatever form she desired.
It was as if she were the God of Fire herself.
Although this was ordinary fire, it was worlds apart from the flames that burned the Erdtree in the true ‘Ominous Prophecy.’ It was like comparing an ant and an elephant; while both were living creatures, their sizes were incomparable.
But for the current Mia, this kind of fire was enough.
She wondered if her spellcasting power would increase after meeting Little Wood and adding points.
But that wasn’t the only harvest.
Aside from some spiritual growth, Mia had also managed to get her hands on something good during the chaos.
The girl reached into her storage space and pulled out an object that the people of The Lands Between might be unfamiliar with, but which she knew very well.
A musket.
Mia stood up and rested the gun on the ground; the muzzle reached nearly to her neck.
This was not a clumsy matchlock musket that required a burning fuse, but a well-made flintlock smoothbore musket.
In warhammer fantasy, a world even more fantastical than The Lands Between, smoothbore muskets were considered child’s play.
The Human Empire possessed secret weapons like steam tanks covered in heavy iron plating and equipped with cannons, while the Dwarfs had already developed helicopters and rockets.
And the ever-defiant Skaven had even cooked up intercontinental missiles!
So, let alone muzzle-loading smoothbore muskets, even breech-loading rifles existed and were standard issue in certain nations.
Yet such weapons did not exist in The Lands Between.
Although The Lands Between had experimental weapons like cannons and flamethrowers that were immensely powerful to the Erdtree Folk, there were no firearms that could be issued as standard equipment for individual soldiers.
It was precisely because she realized this that she took the opportunity to swipe a flintlock musket that had fallen on the battlefield.
Perhaps this thing could give her an advantage in The Lands Between?
Nuln was the artillery center of the Human Empire, and the highest quality firearms were produced in Nuln.
Although this gun had no ammunition or gunpowder, gunpowder was not a particularly rare item in The Lands Between; the Royal Army’s ballistae had explosive ammunition.
As for the ammunition, it was just lead balls; there was no way it could be a scarce resource.
If she could meet a highly skilled craftsman in the future…
Like Hewg, the Misbegotten smith at the Roundtable Hold, or Iji, the Giant smith of the Carian royal family.
Combined with the theoretical knowledge from her past life, perhaps she could replicate it, or even create more powerful and advanced firearms.
With a chuckle, Mia stuffed the musket back into her storage space.
This thing was a treasure.
Humming a little tune and imagining her future scenes of unrivaled power, the girl hugged her legs and sat on the ground, swaying back and forth.
Before crossing over, she was just an ordinary person, and she had her own little thoughts.
There seemed to be a rustling sound at the door, and the girl regained her senses and looked over.
Kalé had returned safely, leading the donkey, with no new wounds or bloodstains on him.
The merchant had no idea what Mia and Wilden had experienced during the time he was away.
“Are you alright?” Mia asked.
“Everything is safe, phew.” Kalé panted.
He tied Amia in the corner of the room.
The donkey had completely calmed down, its idle hooves tapping against the stone floor of the dilapidated hut.
Making a clatter-clatter-clatter sound.
Kalé returned the spirit calling bell and the spirit ashes to Mia.
“Returning these to you, I didn’t use them.” “As long as you are safe.” Kalé sat by the campfire, physically and mentally exhausted.
He suspected nothing.
“Tonight’s events were really stressful.
Let’s get some sleep.” “Mm.” After tidying up the mess in the ruined hut and extinguishing the campfire, Mia and Kalé laid out their sleeping bags.
Mia didn’t tell Kalé about the world-traveling, and neither did Wilden.
Some things had to be experienced personally to be believed.
Later, if Kalé proved reliable enough, she might consider going on a journey through worlds together.
Wilden used his spear to pass through the handle of the greatshield, wedging it against the doorframe.
It served as a door.
Then he leaned against the door, relaxed, looking through the collapsed corner of the roof at the branches of the Erdtree.
Mia yawned.
Tonight was really damn fulfilling.
It might not seem tempting right now but who knows what the future holds?
“And If you’re enjoying it, drop a Power Stone for me!”
