Elden Ring: Starting as Melina’s Sister

Ch. 39 Beastmen of Farum Azula

  • Next Chapter

At first, the first wolf let out a low howl, its voice echoing in the dense forest, gloomy and terrifying.

A few seconds later, the wolf’s voice turned higher, and a second wolf joined in, followed by more high-pitched and sharp howls rising one after another.

There was clearly a wolf pack around them.

Mia sat up, and Wilden and Kalé also looked at the gloomy dense forest around them.

Is it coming?

Mia from her previous life had heard a saying.

If a gun appears in the first act of a play, then someone must fire that gun.

Therefore, since they saw traces of a wolf pack in the morning, they would definitely be attacked by the wolf pack at night.

Those beasts were still hidden in the darkness, while Mia was already eager to try.

She suddenly remembered an important item she hadn’t used since she obtained it.

The spirit calling bell.

And the Lone Wolf Ashes.

She had previously lent the spirit calling bell and the ashes to Kalé, but Kalé had not used them.

It was precisely because she lent them to Kalé that Mia hadn’t been able to experience them when they were in Nuln.

Now was the opportunity.

“Wait a moment.” She took out the spirit calling bell: “I want to try this.” Kalé curiously glanced over, then continued to stare intently at the forest.

Although the trio’s campsite was located in a small clearing, sheltered by falling ruins, it was still several meters away from the forest.

But no one knew where a beast might pop out from.

A beast capable of wiping out an entire squad of Royal Army Soldiers could not be underestimated.

Mia stood behind the two, holding up the spirit calling bell in one hand and cradling the ashes box in the other.

It was as if a muscle memory was telling her how to use this thing.

She gently shook the bell, and a light, ethereal ringing sound rang out.

As the ringing rippled out, it carried a response from an unknown source.

A grayish-white, crystalline mist drifted out of the ashes box, gathering around Mia.

When the mist dissipated, the true form of the summoned objects was revealed.

Three white Spirit Wolves, each half a Soldier tall.

Kalé’s eyes widened: “Is this the thing you lent me before?” Mia answered: “Yes.” The summoned ashes would treat the summoner as their master and fight for her or him.

The moment the three Spirit Wolves appeared, they immediately guarded the trio, protecting them from the outermost perimeter.

The wolves that had been howling in the surroundings stepped out of the shadows; a rough count revealed there were over a dozen of them.

A huge white wolf stood behind the pack, staring intently at Mia and her companions with emotionless eyes.

This was a cold and ruthless threat.

Was it the leader of the pack?

“No, there is something else…” Wilden raised his shield and said calmly.

Even a wolf like this could not have inflicted such a wound on the chest of a Royal Army Soldier.

The white wolf let out a low growl, like the heartbeat of a demon, as it stared at the three Spirit Wolves surrounding the trio.

The white wolf did not understand what a spirit calling bell or a summoned object was; it tried to threaten the three white Spirit Wolves as it would fellow beasts.

And the Spirit Wolves responded with the same threatening sounds.

The pack closed in, the muscles on their faces contracting viciously, revealing teeth that gleamed with a faint yellow hue.

The white wolf let out a low howl, and the pack let out sharp roars, pouncing toward the three.

Mia unleashed a tongue of flame that landed on the pile of leaves Kalé had previously piled around them; the dry leaves burned, and the speed of the spread was like gunpowder, instantly forming a semicircular barrier between the pack and the three.

Wolves have been afraid of fire since ancient times.

The pack had their noses scorched by the flames, emitting sounds like glass rubbing together, and quickly retreated.

The pack circled the ring of fire, eyeing the people inside with hostility.

“Take them out?” Seeing that Wilden made no move, Mia asked tentatively.

“Wait a little longer…” Wilden said.

Waiting for the true mastermind to reveal itself.

The pack was still testing the waters; the small pile of dry leaves had long since burned out, but with Mia adding fuel to the fire, there was no sign of it diminishing.

One Spirit Wolf circled within the wall of fire, then sat down beside Mia, resting its paws as it watched the pack pacing behind the wall of fire.

Mia noticed that the white wolf king began to grow unnaturally restless.

It paced around restlessly, constantly licking its nose.

If it had attacked the three just to get food, or simply for the sake of killing, then it seemed to lack the patience that hunting should require.

“Above!” Kalé was the first to notice; a trail of dust and small pebbles fell onto his hat.

Wilden and Mia looked up abruptly, only to see a dark shadow smashing down from the top of the ruins above.

The two hurriedly retreated to the sides, and with a loud crash, the campfire between the three was struck by the shadow.

Sparks flew, the firewood in the pile jumped, and ashes rolled out in all directions.

A huge, black, reflective cleaver came striking toward Wilden.

The Soldier raised his shield, and the heavy cleaver, which was as thick as a stone slab, slammed hard into the Royal Army greatshield; wood chips flew, and Wilden was forced back several steps by the massive force.

A deep notch had already appeared on the greatshield, with boards and splinters sticking up; without the metal reinforcement on the edges, the greatshield would likely have fallen apart under this blow.

It might not seem tempting right now but who knows what the future holds?

“And If you’re enjoying it, drop a Power Stone for me!”
