Elden Ring: Starting as Melina’s Sister

Ch. 40 And Mia recognized the culprit behind the attack

That thing—it was hard to call it a Soldier; if Mia had to describe it, she could probably only call it a huge rat-man.

It hunched its back, wore peculiar armor, and brandished that exaggerated cleaver.

Two rows of dense, sharp, terrifying teeth like fish bones were exposed from its lipless mouth.

There were even traces of blood between its teeth.

‘Beastman of Farum Azula.’ The beastman brandished the huge cleaver, almost whipping up a whirlwind around it.

The cleaver swept horizontally, and the three quickly retreated.

The beastman’s body, which was so emaciated it was no different from a mummy, with skin already festering at the joints of its hands and feet, still contained immense strength; no one could withstand even a graze from such an exaggerated weapon.

‘Ignite!’ Mia released flames, which lunged toward the Beastman of Farum Azula.

The girl had thought that the dull, withered fur on the beastman’s back would be set ablaze, but what happened in reality surprised her.

The beastman merely took a step back, then immediately let out a roar and swung its blade at Mia.

Mia hurriedly dodged, and refusing to believe it, released another Ignite; the flames scorched the beastman’s fur, leaving only a few fleeting sparks at the tips of the hair.

The girl suddenly realized: This guy isn’t afraid of fire!

The beastman understood that Mia’s flames could not hurt it; the eyes hidden beneath the helmet emitted a human-like contempt, and it swung the great blade in its hand even more violently.

Wilden’s shield took another hit, and the cracks on the shield deepened.

Mia leaned back in terror, watching the black cleaver graze past her scalp.

The great blade spun around, then was swung in a full arc toward her.

Just then, a Spirit Wolf summoned by the spirit calling bell leaped from behind toward this beastman.

The Spirit Wolf leaped onto the beastman’s back, its sharp claws digging fiercely into the fur on the beastman’s back; the wolf growled and clawed while trying to bite the beastman’s nape.

The beastman’s attack was interrupted; it staggered backward like a Soldier whose hair had been grabbed, and in a fit of rage, it tried to grab the Spirit Wolf on its back with its hand; the beastman grabbed one of the Spirit Wolf’s hind legs, but the Spirit Wolf would not be easily pulled off.

It bit down hard on the beastman’s nape, using its strength to throw it to the ground.

If the half-Soldier-tall Spirit Wolf stood up, there wasn’t much difference in size compared to the beastman; now, that wolf was clinging tightly to the beastman, making the beastman stagger about like an ox.

The other two Spirit Wolves also closed in, forming a three-sided pincer formation with the Spirit Wolf on the beastman’s back.

The two Spirit Wolves pounced toward the beastman simultaneously, but even deeply entangled in interference, the beastman could not just suffer in silence; it let out a roar and swung the cleaver forward with one hand.

Thud~ Mia seemed to hear such a muffled sound.

The sharp and heavy cleaver struck a Spirit Wolf but did not cut it in two.

Instead, it hit the wolf like a baseball, sending it flying.

The Spirit Wolf flew backward, crashing into the ruins the camp relied on.

The ashes summoned by the spirit calling bell were tougher than they had been in life.

The remaining Spirit Wolf pounced head-on at the beastman, and together with the Spirit Wolf on the beastman’s back, toppled the beastman to the ground.

The beastman fell, and the two wolves bit repeatedly at its body, and then the third one, having returned to the battlefield, joined in; the beastman struggled, but it was completely useless.

That heavy cleaver could not deal with the Spirit Wolves pouncing on it; it tried to use both hands to choke one of them, then the second one would bite over.

Wilden threw away his damaged greatshield, raised his spear with both hands, and thrust the spear into the gap where the three wolves and the beastman were tangled.

The Soldier kept pushing with force, and the spear pierced directly through the beastman’s abdomen, the spear tip burying deep into the ground.

The beastman roared in anger; the restraint of the three Spirit Wolves made it completely unable to resist; in the struggle, its helmet was torn off, revealing a face that was no different from a skull.

From that blood-stained mouth, some kind of vague, unknown language was spat out.

Judging by the tone, this was clearly not a plea for mercy.

Even though it had fallen into such a state, the beastman was still unwilling to give up resistance.

But the outcome of this conflict was already clear.

With its abdomen pierced, even if he were let go, the beastman wouldn’t live long.

Well…

assuming this thing wouldn’t keep resurrecting like the Erdtree Folk, with no other way to die but to Return to the Erdtree.

The beastman was still roaring viciously, and Mia quickly stepped forward, holding the golden sword.

The long sword pierced into the beastman’s lipless mouth.

Then, Mia watched those black eyes lose their vitality.

She suddenly shivered.

Because she clearly saw that when the beastman looked at her before dying, its eyes contained nothing but hatred and rage.

“You were the one who attacked first, so why are you angry and hateful?” The girl had never seen such an emotion; she had always thought that the so-called palpable hatred was just an exaggerated rhetorical device.

But when Mia truly looked into those eyes, goosebumps rose on her back.

What exactly was behind that hatred?

Was that the thing that guided this beastman to attack that squad of Royal Army Soldiers and then attack them?

But these questions could no longer be answered.

The beastman died; it lost its vitality and then turned into flying ash in front of the three.

Just like that Soldier in the Cave of Learning.

“He…” Mia looked at Wilden subconsciously.

Wilden’s spear was still stuck in the ground.

He stared at the remaining armor in front of him and pulled up the spear without a word.

Mia pursed her lips; she still remembered Wilden’s reply when Mia had originally described that Soldier turning into ashes to him.

‘Return to the Erdtree’ Would a beastman from Farum Azula also Return to the Erdtree?

Mia wanted to ask, but she didn’t know what Wilden’s mood was like right now.

Until Wilden looked at the clearing and nodded: “He also Returned to the Erdtree.” Mia breathed a sigh of relief and asked: “Are beastmen also blessed by the Erdtree?” “Yes.” Wilden mused: “Since the Ancient Dragon war, beastmen who believe in the Ancient Dragon have become loyal allies of the Erdtree.” He paused: “When the first son of gold was still alive, there were beastmen following him.

And I still remember that in the Royal Capital, there were also knights who believed in the Ancient Dragon and were blessed by the lightning of the Ancient Dragon.” Mia said thoughtfully: “So, does the Erdtree also bless these beastmen?” ————————

It might not seem tempting right now but who knows what the future holds?

“And If you’re enjoying it, drop a Power Stone for me!”
