Elden Ring: Starting as Melina’s Sister
Chapter 169 Destruction
That wind blew across almost the entire battlefield.
The first to see the anomaly were the Anglo-Saxons, because they were always facing the castle.
As the cyan vortex of magic gathered, in the sky above the castle, beneath the vast, white sky covered by clouds, a starry sky began to spread.
That brilliant starry sky appeared in the middle of the day, becoming the backdrop of the castle, as if the real sky had been covered by something.
It was like the rising sun, with a strange color emerging on the horizon.
The anomaly made everyone widen their eyes. The Anglo-Saxons stopped their movements, staring hesitantly at the abruptly appearing starry sky.
It was so strange; beyond that starry sky, it was still the vast, white day, obscured by clouds.
The Britons saw the Anglo-Saxons stop, and they themselves were shrouded in the darkening light. They looked up.
The battle paused in that moment.
Everyone silently gazed at the suddenly appearing starry sky.
Right in that silence, the starry sky fell.
Meteors tore through the air like dawn.
They saw those twinkling stars constantly enlarging in their vision, enlarging, and then instantly being ignited. The meteors turned into fireball after fireball, falling toward the earth.
The Britons saw the meteor shower fall into the Anglo-Saxon army. Each meteor was comparable to the largest stone a catapult could launch. The meteors slammed into the ground; when they hit Soldiers, the Soldiers vanished.
Then they hit the ground, and in an instant, an explosion occurred.
Flames and shattering glintstone fragments engulfed the surrounding Anglo-Saxons.
The loud noise of the impact and the explosions drowned out everything. Perhaps someone was screaming, but in the end, they would all be destroyed by the falling meteors.
If the meteor shower continued, the scene would be hard to describe even as a massacre; this was an extinction.
Just like the extinction from billions of years ago, the meteors would bring extinction again, and this time, it would be the Anglo-Saxons on this battlefield.
The Anglo-Saxons ran, wailed, and fled in every direction they could survive. This was not a battle.
The Britons stared blankly at the scene before them. Under this power comparable to that of gods, every meteor that fell, every explosion that rang out, struck their hearts like the tolling of a bell, causing their muscles to stiffen, their breathing to accelerate, and leaving them unable to move.
However.
Behind the Anglo-Saxon army,
where the meteor shower had not yet reached,
Vortigern stood up.
Silently, just like a shadow.
But it was a shadow that could cover everything, swallow everything, make all things lose their form, and be evaporated like dust.
Facing that magic containing the power of the stars, Vortigern reached out his hand.
Darkness, where even faint starlight was not allowed to exist, appeared for an instant, shielding everyone’s eyes.
Vortigern stepped off his chariot. He exerted his power against the meteor shower, and the meteor shower disintegrated in the air.
The Low King was like the earth that had not been shattered in the slightest beneath the meteor shower.
Like a greedy magic dragon, he devoured the starlight.
Then, the darkness surged like a wave.
Thus, the meteors stopped, and the castle also collapsed.
The castle turned into stone and rubble, along with everyone on it and nearby—Britons, Anglo-Saxons—all disappearing into the rolling dust.
It was just something that happened in an instant.
The ground was trembling, just like a mischievous child kicking over building blocks, trembling slightly while laughing wickedly.
Vortigern walked slowly across the battlefield.
The Anglo-Saxons knelt before him.
—
‘Hum—’
Intense tinnitus.
She had wanted to use Teleportation Magic at the moment the castle collapsed, but was interrupted by the floor cracking beneath her feet.
The only stroke of luck was that she wasn’t crushed by stones.
“Cough, cough, cough…”
What on earth happened?
Even now, Mia’s head was buzzing.
Dazed, no different from anyone else.
Vortigern?
Was that the power Vortigern possessed?
She saw the surging darkness, if one were to use something as a metaphor.
It was like being forced to drink molten iron, something that made one tremble.
“Ugh…”
Her body didn’t seem able to move, but it wasn’t because she was crushed by stones, but rather because she was inside a circle of soft restraint.
“Melina?”
“Hmm…” The maiden of the kindling clung tightly to her, a soft moan escaping her lips.
“Are you okay?!” Mia anxiously broke free from her embrace, seeing the beautiful woman before her covered in dirt and dust on her head and face.
“I’m fine… cough.” Melina coughed twice, shaking her head to shake off the dust.
“What are you doing?!” Mia said, somewhat annoyed. She really disliked Melina’s behavior of putting herself in danger.
“You cannot die.”
“I can’t die!”
“Please don’t misunderstand. The reason I don’t want you to die is that I don’t want to experience the same feeling as you.” Melina turned her head away, appearing as if she didn’t care about Mia at all.
“…Tsundere…” Mia muttered in a low voice.
“What does that mean?”
“It means saying one thing but meaning another.”
“…” Melina paused, then stepped back half a step and stood up, looking down at Mia: “Then I shall be consistent in my words and actions.”
Pop~
With a sound, Melina disappeared.
Ahem, of course there wouldn’t be such a sound, it’s just that the sound effect fits the current situation quite well.
“Melina!”
“It would be better to find a way to leave here now.” Melina’s voice appeared in her ear.
The little interaction between the two was over. Mia looked up; the smoke and dust above the ruins were slowly dissipating.
Standing up unsteadily, she drank more than half of the blue dew.
Everything was still shrouded in dust and fog.
At this moment, Mia finally noticed the abrasions on her body.
“Is anyone else alive?!” she shouted loudly.
The sound of structures collapsing came from all around.
The castle had not completely collapsed, but wails and screams were already rising and falling amidst the ruins.
Mia did not find the ballista that was on the tower earlier, nor the Soldiers next to it.
Vortigern had destroyed this castle with just a single strike.
Were the others okay?
Those she knew?
Artoria, Kay, Anthony?
And Wilden?
She saw a hand extending from the stones. She walked forward, only to discover that the Soldier had already stopped breathing.
Mia knew Wilden had been not far from her earlier, so she shouted, “Wilden?!”
“Mia!”
A huge rock was overturned, and Wilden crawled out from the ruins.
“Are you okay?”
“…” Wilden appeared somewhat strained. He braced himself against his knees and took two breaths: “I’m fine.”
Mia did not observe any wounds on his body.
“Is anyone else there?!”
Mia felt she could not go on like this. After the dust had mostly dissipated, she cast a wide-range restorative Prayer.
She found a whistle on the corpse of a Soldier, then she blew it.
