Chapter 2945: Serana's Little Trick

  • Next Chapter

When Henry and his apprentice left, the moon was just setting.

It was clear that despite suffering a Mental Shock, Yuan Shan still had no objections to their previous decision and was prepared to accompany her teacher and Professor Fu to the banquet.

Even if it meant working overtime and setting out late into the night.

"Are you really leaving so soon?"

Having watched Fu Qian set a firm time to meet the two of them, Serana could not hide her shock.

The night had been far too thrilling, and every twist tested a person's nerves, to the point that even advancing to Tier 2 could only briefly hold the center of attention.

"What, are you planning to come along?"

Sensing Serana's disbelief, Fu Qian gave her a curious look.

"Is that... necessary?"

Her reaction was straightforward. Aside from her initial surprise, she hesitated for only a second before looking fully resolved.

Though it hadn't been explicitly stated in their earlier conversation, it wasn't hard to guess their destination.

Even with Old Man Henry's backing, a trip like this seemed to require a lot of courage from a newly advanced Tier 2. Even so, it appeared Serana felt she ought to return the favor.

"There's no need."

Unfortunately, her enthusiasm and resolve were shot down a second later.

Fu Qian shook his head, signaling that she wouldn't be of any help.

"Are you sure your condition is fine? Shouldn't you spend a little more time stabilizing it?"

Not only that, he even took the opportunity to show some reverse concern for her.

"I'm sure. Please don't worry."

Dealing with Professor Fu rarely came with such gentle treatment, leaving Serana feeling somewhat flattered.

At the same time, it was clear the shadow left by their previous interactions was still too heavy. Even though her Rank had advanced a step, she still couldn't quite straighten her back around him.

"In that case, do you mind letting me see your Wet Nurse?"

Fu Qian gave a slight nod and suddenly made a new suggestion.

...

"How did you know?"

Inside the Second-Hand Church, all sounds fell silent for a moment. Then, Serana looked up with a bizarre expression, as if she had been stripped bare.

"I didn't actually know. I was just taking a wild guess... And it's obvious you don't lie often. You don't even have the awareness to deceive yourself before deceiving others."

Fu Qian gestured for her to calm down, then offered his usual sharp critique.

"You're right... I'm sorry. I really did lie to you all."

She was visibly rattled again, but after taking a deep breath, Serana calmed down and slowly admitted it.

"The existence of the Wet Nurse is real, but the Divine Children of the Blood Clan from the past never possessed this ability. Instead, it newly appeared on me this time."

...

See, this was why one shouldn't take things for granted.

As long as it was necessary, even honest people would lie.

Hearing Serana's explanation, Fu Qian only sighed internally.

In truth, he hadn't been spouting nonsense earlier. He genuinely wasn't certain if Serana had been dishonest.

The reason he had casually tested the waters was mainly from the perspective of motive.

On one side was the curiosity of the three guests; on the other were the secrets of the Blood Clan and even the Progenitor. His request back then had put her in a somewhat difficult position.

Given Serana's personality, if she really wanted to dodge the heavy topics and say something inconsequential, she would most likely just state that it was inconvenient to disclose.

Under those circumstances, was there any way to somewhat accommodate both sides?

Fu Qian felt that this truly wasn't difficult, and it perfectly matched Serana's subsequent performance—withhold the main points without blindly making things up, while applying protective embellishments to key details.

For instance, the "Wet Nurse" truly existed. It just wasn't in the past, but in the present.

Old Man Henry clearly hadn't heard of this miraculous ability, yet as a relatively young member of the Blood Clan, Serana knew about it in far too much detail.

So much so that the moment Fu Qian heard it, he wondered if she was simply describing her own experience.

"Don't be nervous. In all fairness, you performed quite well. The title of Wet Nurse is also very interesting."

Ultimately, this was just a minor interlude. Fully able to empathize with her choice, Fu Qian waved his hand, signaling her not to take it to heart.

As for the praise, it wasn't just polite filler. To react so quickly and speak so flawlessly—if this were a movie, it would practically be the start of a villain arc where the character gets a massive power boost.

"I'm not exactly nervous. I'm just very sorry."

Having digested the shock, Serana seemed to finally remember her status as a Tier 2. She took another deep breath, trying to calm down.

"Although I still need a little time to digest my gains, a simple test shouldn't be a problem... But before that, may I know why you're so interested?"

She readily agreed to Fu Qian's request.

"Because I absolved the grave sin."

As for her final question, it couldn't have been more normal. Fu Qian casually repeated the words he had said before.

...

It wasn't that he had much interest in the might of a Blood Clan Tier 2; what Fu Qian had always wanted to know was the "change."

With so many Godhood Sequences out there, an academic worker's job was never to act as a jianghu know-it-all, but rather to analyze and deduce the underlying foundational rules of the Transcendent Tier.

What the complete erasure of Annalise's traces meant for the Blood Clan's Divine Path was the real question Fu Qian didn't mind expending energy to care about.

And while Serana had pulled a clever little trick, her choice of topic was indeed flawless.

The difference between the former and current "Divine Child" served as the perfect comparison. However, the fact that a "Wet Nurse" had actually newly appeared on her was still somewhat surprising.

Logically speaking, with Annalise's traces gone, wouldn't it be more reasonable for the Tier 2 Form to become more streamlined?

"Understood. Please, go ahead."

It seemed the person in question didn't quite understand it herself either.

Serana hesitated for a moment. In the end, she didn't have the courage to ask about the details of the Progenitor's grave sin. She merely nodded, indicating that the "Wet Nurse" leaned more toward defense and that Fu Qian could launch an attack.

Swish—

How could Fu Qian be polite in the face of such a request? Almost the moment her voice faded, his index finger suddenly extended, thrusting straight toward Serana's forehead.

And a miraculous scene truly followed.

Although an attack of this level posed no mortal threat to a Tier 2, right at the moment it was about to hit, Fu Qian clearly felt his Finger Gun being pushed horizontally.

As a result, even though Serana hadn't made any evasive movements, the strike still missed, skimming narrowly past her hair.

'Is someone really guarding her? It's not even a figure of speech?' Fu Qian had seen plenty of passive defensive abilities in his time.

But one this vivid and alive was truly a rare sight.

At that moment, he didn't try to chase down the invisible troublemaker. Instead, he took a deep breath of his own.

Roar—

This time, he outright activated a skill. A full-power Gospel Shockwave blasted out, once again aimed straight at the head of the newly advanced Tier 2.
