Eldritch Horror Theatre
Chapter 2946: Complete
Enlightening spirituality, accumulating madness.
In stark contrast to the previous Finger Gun, the Gospel Shockwave strictly tested the mental plane.
Beyond complementing each other, another vital reason for choosing this skill came down to its origins.
Tilanqi was Annalise, and she was also the cherished daughter of the Mother of Gospel.
If the changes in Serana truly stemmed from the Red Moon digesting the legacy of the Progenitor of the Blood Clan...
...then this sliver of power siphoned from the Mother of Gospel might just yield some special effects.
Furthermore, Fu Qian was curious to see exactly how the "Wet Nurse" would deflect a truly formless attack like this—its mind didn't seem quite so rigid.
As it turned out, a mother's fierce protective instinct could manifest in many ways. The Gospel Shockwave met zero resistance, slamming solidly into its target.
Serana actually let out a strange gasp of surprise.
The only catch was that she felt no pain, only shock and bewilderment.
Sizzle—
Before she could say another word, the robe she had hastily thrown on crumbled to ash. Terrifying, pitch-black flames erupted simultaneously, engulfing her entire body.
It didn't stop there. Wisps and clusters of the black fire continued to stretch outward, weaving together to form radiating rings of webbing.
The web's pattern was incredibly vivid. Fu Qian narrowed his eyes, feeling as though he were witnessing the "gospel" with his own two eyes.
...
It was a perfect match for this place.
The Gospel Shockwave had quite literally unleashed a gospel, forcing one to marvel at the wonders of the world.
And as the target of the attack, Serana was undoubtedly the center of this materialized "gospel."
Its pitch-black color did nothing to dull its brilliance. As it rapidly expanded, Fu Qian actually felt a sense of the divine.
Within the Church, the gospel echoed.
And as the sole listener, he naturally bore the brunt of it.
Even though the surge radiated out in all directions, the very moment the black flames brushed against his body, they instantly locked onto him and crashed over him in a furious tide.
Even with Professor Fu's innate immunity to Mental Shock, the scorching heat of the flames remained utterly terrifying. Since he was only maintaining his Tier 2 state, strange brands were instantly seared into his flesh.
It didn't just strip flesh and erode bone; the damage was rapidly stacking.
Was this truly the work of the Mother of Gospel?
How could anyone expect to listen to the gospel in leisurely comfort?
In no rush to shake off the agonizing discomfort, Fu Qian sighed inwardly, immensely satisfied with the test plan he had chosen.
The Gospel Shockwave hadn't dealt any actual impact; instead, it had triggered a "halo" to erupt from her body.
Such a development seemed absurd, but it was actually quite easy to understand using that old saying: "How dare you use my own spells against me?"
It was nothing more than a little sliver of power the Warehouse had helped him siphon, and he actually dared to use it on someone under the Mother of Gospel's protection?
Exactly. Fu Qian was fairly certain that the "Wet Nurse" Serana spoke of belonged to the Mother of Gospel's lineage of power, and its rank was far from low.
Ultimately, this meant the Gospel Shockwave wasn't just neutralized; it actually served as fuel to overclock her state.
The gospel truly surged through this sacred place, and he had been severely wounded by a reflection of his own attack—absolutely fantastic.
What did a minor injury matter? This was a flawless transition from theory to result.
His initial guess had been that the Divine Child's physical changes were likely tied to a shift in the higher entity backing her.
So he had chosen to test the factor most likely to be connected, and now he had successfully verified his hypothesis.
Beyond effortlessly neutralizing the Gospel Shockwave, these black flames radiating pure destruction were identical to the ones he had seen back at Silver Mist Manor. They were undeniably the signature power of the Mother of Gospel.
At this point, the origins of the "Wet Nurse" were unquestionable. It was plainly obvious that the Red Moon had completely seized the upper hand and was now steadily digesting the Blood Nova.
...
"As expected of the Divine Child."
Fu Qian let out an admiring sigh. He refrained from running any further tests, opting instead to give Excellency Serana's new form a glowing review.
"It isn't entirely under my control, but it's already starting to weaken."
Serana herself was clearly quite shocked by her own display of power.
Staring at Fu Qian's ghastly, mangled body, she made sure to offer an explanation, signaling that she had no way to instantly shut down this gospel halo.
"No rush. I'm having a wonderful chat with the Wet Nurse, and your condition certainly doesn't look like anything to worry about." Fu Qian clearly had no doubts about her claim, even waving a hand to brush off his own severe injuries.
"...But how exactly did this happen? I've never seen anything like this described in the Blood Clan's ancient texts."
Staring intently at him, Serana miraculously found herself calming down in the face of Fu Qian's overwhelming nonchalance, as if certain lingering suspicions had finally been laid to rest.
It wasn't strange. Even if it was out of her control, as a Tier 2, she was intimately aware of just how lethal that gospel halo was.
If her target had been a mere Demigod, no matter how immense their Health Bar was, there was absolutely no way they could have just stood there and "listened."
'As I thought. Even after leveling up, there's just no holding my head high in front of this man...'
Finally, bolstered by this profoundly disheartening sense of reassurance, she shifted her focus back to her "changes."
"Good question."
Fu Qian didn't mind at all; in fact, he greatly appreciated her persistence.
Compared to the actual person involved, he perhaps had a deeper grasp of the research, knowing that this was likely tied to the Red Moon.
But one question remained an unavoidable sticking point. The changes stemmed from the Red Moon, but how exactly had the intermediate process been achieved?
Given that entity's mental state, it hadn't even had the strength to exchange a few words with him. Would it really have the energy to manually tweak a Godhood Sequence? And if this had nothing to do with subjective will, did that mean the process occurred entirely naturally?
Why would it happen?
He felt that solving this puzzle would be of monumental importance to understanding the underlying laws of the Transcendent Tier.
"Even I have to admit that the Blood Clan seems to have always held one major advantage: you don't need to run around collecting Divine Traits like everyone else, do you?"
"In theory, you could certainly say that... The rituals for each stage do still require certain materials, but they're mainly supplementary, and gathering them isn't difficult. The core still lies in the Progenitor's boon."
"That sounds like you enjoy the best of both worlds. You have clear rituals, and yet, much like standard cultivation, you don't have to break your back hunting for rare traits..."
Fu Qian listened intently, offering high praise as she spoke.
"But—you still ultimately ascended into a much more transcendent form. That means the missing piece was filled in regardless."
