Endless Debt
Chapter 1626 - 118: Duelists
This crisis Bologue encountered surpassed all those he had faced in the past. With the Heartless still in pursuit, he also encountered York who was fully protected, and, beyond both, the Night King was closing in step by step.
On the outer perimeter of this blood-soaked Butcher’s Pit, more Bloodthirsty Ones and Night Race members were acting. Now, Bologue could be sure that his actions had thoroughly caught the attention of the Rebellious Royal Court. Fortunately, those High Tier Night Race members were temporarily unable to spare the effort to suppress him.
The frightening howl of the wind came from hundreds of meters above, unleashing like lightning that seemed to cleave the mundane world, akin to colossal serpents, reflecting the earth and sky into a haunting black and white wherever they passed.
While Bologue and his companions were relentlessly pursued by one formidable enemy after another, at the other end of the Royal City, Fuen and Holt and others relied on the Extraordinary Disaster: Song of Wind Fall to break through the barrier of the Angry Sea, forcibly landing in the Land of Eternal Night.
Multiple Seeker of Glory reactions were released from that deadly Ether chaos, causing reality to twist and collapse little by little, a massive amount of Ether accumulating together, almost forming another terrifying Ethereal Vortex Point.
Sensing the astonishing Ethereal Fluctuation from afar, Bologue inexplicably felt fortunate. Compared to the dangerous place he was in, that battlefield full of Seekers of Glory was the true Hell.
No, there was truly little difference, just one Hell compared to another.
Everyone leaned back against each other, each like a loaded gun, a taut bowstring, vigilantly preparing to confront the enemies gradually surrounding them.
At this moment, Serey’s expression finally grew serious, his scarlet eyes surveying the enemies around, a crazy idea germinating in his mind.
Serey knew this decision would be enough to save everyone present, but it would also plunge Serey himself into mortal danger.
He hesitated about whether or not to do it, for his own contemptible existence was so incompatible with that noble sacrifice. Moreover, Serey’s goal had already been achieved.
Thinking of this, Serey looked towards the stern-faced Olivia. She was standing with the others, shadows rushing wildly, coalescing into visible dark entities, like dense projections cast by the forest, clawing ferociously.
Serey had found Olivia. Next, he just needed to take Olivia away from here. As for everything occurring within the Land of Eternal Night... it had nothing to do with Serey, nor did he need to worry about it.
To escape once more?
Perhaps even if Serey wanted to do so, Olivia would not agree with him. Like her mother, she was a lady of immense courage. When Bologue and the others broke through the door, she had already decided to stand with them until death.
"Don’t stop!"
Bologue shouted, launching the attack first. Ether scattered towards the earth, and the Secret Energy rapidly expanded, causing his own territory to completely swallow the surrounding domain.
Like an earthquake, the ground suddenly shook, as if the entire world was overturning. In the terrified gaze of everyone, countless grotesque rock spikes emerged from the ground like bamboo shoots after the rain, twisted and strange, materializing as expressions of the earth’s painful groans.
Looking down from above, the earth, the rock spikes stacked layer upon layer, resembling enormous flower petals emerging from below the ground, blooming wildly, encompassing Bologue and his compatriots safely within their floral core, ruthlessly dismantling everything around them, buildings and enemies alike.
Amidst the rumbling echoes, the edges of the petals were adorned with jagged spikes, sharp and dangerous, pushing onto a sea of corpses, their tips laden with decomposing bodies, making one’s spine shiver.
The nearby Heartless were driven back by this terrifying scene, the Bloodthirsty Ones were crushed into flesh-like mud in batches, and the remaining Night Race members frantically ran across the clusters of ruins, screaming in terror, desperately trying to escape this nightmare-like place.
The air was thick with the stench of death, making one feel waves of nausea and discomfort. The originally familiar scenery was no longer, replaced instead by a desolate horror.
Bologne panted heavily, such a large-scale geological change was quite a considerable consumption of his own Ethereal Amount, but its effect was extremely evident. Bologue had utterly disrupted the battle, causing the encirclement to become chaotic again.
Palmer’s questioning voice sounded, "Which one should we kill first!"
Although the situation had grown chaotic, not a single genuine threat had been resolved. Numerous thorny vines extended from between the enormous petals, pulling each other, dragging York’s long-mutated body. When he was fully revealed before everyone, York had already transformed into a terrifying tangled mass of thorns akin to seaweed.
Bologue gripped the Vengeful Saw Axe in his hand, high-pitched rage was released from within, and in a daze, Bologue even heard the sound of a resounding horn.
That was the signal for the duel to begin.
"Deal with the Heartless first."
A vague plan gradually took shape in Bologue’s mind. As soon as he spoke, he immediately broke formation, rushing towards the other end of the ruins where the Heartless were located. In the greater distance, the Dark Void slowly expanded with unwavering intent, similar to a thick fog adhering closely to the ground.
During the charge, Bologue, without hesitation, used the axe blade to slice open his shoulder, the jagged edge of the blade sucking Bologue’s blood.
Beneath the scarlet sacrifice, this forbidden weapon was slowly coming to life, like an animate flesh weapon. The jagged axe blade further cracked, revealed gaps gripped tightly by scarlet tendons and ligaments, keeping the fractured axe blade secured together.
Meanwhile, bloodthirsty rage burgeoned in Bologue’s heart, and the wounds scattered across his body inexplicably started squirming, metallic spikes slowly probing out from the flesh.
With the complete awakening of the Forbidden Crime weapon, Bologue was gradually assimilating with the Vengeful Saw Axe, under the influence of the Protection·Sacrificial Slaughter from Eyes of Eternal Fury.
Olivia saw Bologue leaving, vaguely guessing Bologue’s thoughts, her form immediately dispersing into an unpredictable shadow, bouncing off Bologue’s shadow below, without giving Serey any chance to intervene.
Aimou whispered, "Bologue, she’s followed."
The grim shadows unfolded beneath Bologue, like dragging a pitch-black terrifying skirt.
"Don’t worry about her."
Bologue’s voice was hoarse, fury slowly occupying his mind, each word spoken was an immense pressure for him.
The booming battle drums were getting clearer and louder.
The drumbeats became more dense, like urging the duelists to clash, while Bologue was still forcefully suppressing the urge to kill, the other duelist could no longer hold back.
"Champion!"
A sharp roar came from within the twisted thorn group, then it started rolling like a massive tumbleweed between ruins, each rotation extended thick thorn tendrils forward, like hooks, dragging York’s already mutated body in pursuit of Bologue’s figure.
As Bologue crashed into the group of Heartless, the thorns enveloped Bologue and the Heartless together.
Amidst the roar, a whole ocean of thorns swept in, charging like ferocious warriors towards the ground, their target was Bologue, the other bloodthirsty duelist; only by killing Bologue could York advance further on the path to becoming a champion.
Bologue deliberately moved, with the swarms of Heartless becoming obstacles hindering York in between them.
"Stay rational."
Bologue’s voice was gentle, as if whispering to York, or perhaps advising himself.
In an instant, the thorns surged like spears from deep within Hell, endless and ruthless, rapid and wild, they fell from various corners of the sky, akin to cursed meteors, with an unstoppable momentum crashing toward the earth.
Every thorn tendril was like a razor-sharp blade, effortlessly piercing the bodies of Heartless, amidst the sacrifice of endless bloodshed and the amplification of Devil’s Power, these bodies before them were like thin paper layers, penetrated.
The Heartless wailed, wielding ether to tear at the thorns in return, yet they seemed endless, cutting one birthed two; fresh flesh on thorn tendrils pierced like fruit strung together, shattering hearts, lungs, and livers transformed into sacrificial offerings.
Pierce, tear, destroy!
"Champion!"
York shouted, like the Heartless, his sane mind long shattered in endless slaughter, driven now only by the instinctual fury of the Sin of Wrath.
He had to win, surpass all duelists to become the sole champion under the Eyes of Eternal Fury.
The eternal champion.
York brandished his whip, the thorns like countless blades, scratching countless wounds, the air filled with the scent of blood, the earth dyed red.
Those Heartless pierced by thorns twisted in agony, silently wailed, or helplessly struggled, the grounds had become a slaughterhouse, all sounds merely added to this grand requiem of death.
Even Bologue, upon witnessing York’s strength, couldn’t help but be alarmed; the wicked frenzy’s power suffused York’s body, a peculiar aura Bologue recognized, having faced similar power not long ago.
This world’s calamity.
Could it be, that through continuous slaughter, defeating one duelist after another, the end of Protection·Sacrificial Slaughter is to transform into this world’s calamity?
Bologue pondered, unable to completely affirm this intelligence, realizing after so much that the Devils were similar yet entirely differing.
However, Bologue at least achieved the initial goal, drawing York to the vicinity of Heartless, causing a clash, greatly easing the pressure from the battle.
Regrettably, even though York’s attack appeared deadly, it couldn’t entirely kill the Heartless, merely inflicting wounds upon them.
Among the thorns, Heartless struggled one after another; ether gathered and released within their bodies, violently tearing away the bloody thorns, pulling out the vines invaded into their bodies one by one, even if the sharp barbs tearing out tender viscera never stopping.
"Sorry, York."
Bologue stood on a protruding petal, staring at the repulsive creature approaching him, sincerely apologizing, "Sorry, to let my team member become like this is my negligence."
He closed his eyes, quietly contemplating; the surrounding clamorous sounds gradually fading, leaving only absolute silence.
At this moment, York’s advancing vanished, those Heartless charging at York also vanished, as if only Bologue remained in the world.
When Bologue reopened his eyes, he had made his resolve; the petals underfoot trembled fiercely, coalescing into a rising mound, transforming into a tower, elevating Bologue high into the sky.
In the rapid ascent, sparks fell from Bologue’s collar, the power called Radiance swiftly awakened within the crystal core hanging at Bologue’s chest.
