Chapter 711: The Singing King [Part 1]
After Alex stepped into the arena, his stage for today, he glanced at the audience stands.
The lights in the coliseum were dim, but he knew where his women were seated.
He neither waved at them nor blew a kiss to his lovers. If anything, the last thing he wanted to do was to alienate the other academies, for it might affect his score.
He raised his magical microphone to his lips to say a short message to everyone who had gathered to watch him sing.
"Thank you all for coming today. I am very honored to be here," Alex said calmly. "And tonight, I’ve decided to serenade all of you, especially the ladies, with a song."
This earned him a few giggles from the ladies and boos from the boys.
Even so, Alex took them all in stride. He even chuckled because of it, looking very carefree and at home in his own environment.
"The song I am going to sing is called, ’Can you feel the love tonight?’" Alex stated.
This was a song he liked to sing whenever he went to the karaoke bar with his guild master, Noelle.
It had become quite popular back in his old world, so he also planned to share the song with this world.
"Music, please," Alex said with a smile, and soon, a mellow song started playing in the background.
(A/N: Just play the song in the background for a better reading experience!)
Professor Matilda and Lady Evarisse smiled evilly. This was the part where Alex’s downfall would begin.
So, when the young man sang the first line, the two women’s eyes widened in shock. They had expected his voice to transform into the most diabolical sound mankind had ever heard since they walked the earth.
Instead, what they heard was so heavenly, they almost couldn’t believe what they were hearing!
"There’s a calm surrender to the rush of day," Alex sang. "When the heat of a rolling wind can be turned away."
Dim Dim blinked once, then twice, before looking at Alex in disbelief. For a brief moment, it thought that an impostor had taken over its partner. Just in case, it repeatedly verified if Alex was truly the one singing on the stage. It was indeed Alex.
The little bun questioned it no more and started to sway its body from side to side, vibing with the music.
The fairies were also looking at Alex in disbelief. They had expected musical mayhem, not an incredibly lovely voice worthy of the title Singing King!
"W-Wait, what?!" Doh couldn’t help but gasp.
"W-What happened?!" Reh, who had already braced herself for what was about to come, was looking at Alex in denial.
"T-This..." Fah felt extremely complicated right now. The song was really good. Good enough for her to give it full marks, even. But the chaos factor that she was looking for was gone!
"I want the world to burn... why... Alex, why?" Sue covered her eyes. "You betrayed me!"
While this was happening, Astrea and Lapiz couldn’t help but raise their hands to their chests in an attempt to calm their wildly beating hearts.
They couldn’t take their eyes off the young man, who was singing with all of his heart on the stage that was meant for him.
Even Astrea’s brother, Cassian, couldn’t help but admit that when it came to singing, Alex was leagues ahead of him.
However, there were others who were listening to this song from places no one could easily see.
Somewhere in the coliseum, a little devil perched on a young lady’s shoulder blinked in disbelief.
"Wait, something’s wrong," the little devil said. "Is that really Alex?"
The young lady wearing a fox mask smiled faintly. She wasn’t paying attention to what the devil was saying because her attention was focused on Alex’s singing.
The two of them were so familiar with the young man’s "hidden talent" that they thought this coliseum would devolve into madness once it was his turn to sing.
Yet, none of that happened.
Instead, a song that touched everyone’s hearts reverberated across the air, letting everyone hear his singing voice.
The coliseum quieted down as Dim Dim, who took out some glowsticks from its dimensional storage, started to wave its glowsticks from side to side, catching the fairies’ attention.
The little bun handed the glowsticks in its hands to the fairies, then fished out more of them one by one, passing them to the others.
Soon, they were all waving their glowsticks in harmony with the music, making Alex almost do a double-take when he glanced in their direction.
However, his voice didn’t falter. He continued to sing until the very end.
"It’s enough to make kings and vagabonds believe the very best..."
When the song ended, Alex smiled faintly and bowed his head towards the crowd.
A thunderous applause descended upon the coliseum as everyone applauded and cheered the young man on the stage.
All the judges raised their score cards, giving Alex 10 points each.
"A perfect score!" the Master of Ceremonies shouted. "Well done, Alex Stratos!"
Alex waved to the crowd. This time, he turned to look at the stands where his lovers stood and blew them a flying kiss.
"I’ll eat him later..." Evangeline’s eyes glowed faintly in the dim light.
"We’ll eat him later," Lotte corrected.
"The two of you are not going to eat anyone!" Latifa protested, but her face was flushed with excitement and happiness.
The condition for her mother to accept Alex as her boyfriend was to win the Singing King competition. Since he had a perfect score, he was guaranteed to be the winner of the Singing King tournament!
"Congratulations, Latifa!" Lulu congratulated her mistress. "I’m calling dibs on Alex tonight!"
"Over my dead body!" Lumi declared.
While everyone was still reeling from hearing Alex’s phenomenal voice, Professor Arienna and Heather had finally regained their consciousness.
The two hurried to Alex’s dressing room and saw no one there. It was then that they heard loud cheers from the audience stands, prompting them to head outside to see what was happening.
There, they saw Alex, smiling and waving at the crowd as the announcer declared him the Singing King of the tournament.
Professor Arienna raised her hand and pinched Heather’s cheek, making the young lady cry out in pain.
"This isn’t a dream, Professor!" Heather cried out. "Please stop! It hurts!"
"Huh?!" Professor Arienna finally snapped out of her daze and stared at Alex in disbelief. "What is happening here?!"
That was the same question on the minds of Professor Matilda, Lady Evarisse, and the fairies, who had all expected to see Alex turn the entire coliseum into a murder crime scene.
