Chapter 783: A Worthy Opponent [Part 2]

Shock was the only word that could perfectly describe the expression etched on Alex’s face at that moment.

The Synchronization Rate was a double-edged sword.

Depending on the person they had synced with, Alex and his friends would find themselves playing their roles.

If they were to play the role of an ordinary person, they would become an ordinary person.

But what if they possessed the role of someone extraordinary?

Someone who was considered famous or a legend in a particular place or era?

To that, the answer was simple.

They would also become extraordinary.

Without missing a beat, Antaeus charged at his fallen foe like a juggernaut.

The ground was shaking so hard that Latifa grabbed hold of Fran and levitated both themselves off the ground.

Vaan had also summoned a horse and rode on its back, flying several meters above the ground.

Evangeline opened her wings, while Alex jumped on top of his magical shield.

The young man then took the horn off his waist and blew on it.

The horn echoed across the battlefield, telling the elves to retreat.

"Retreat!" the commander shouted, understanding that continuing to fight in this scenario was foolhardy.

With that, the elves retreated, doing their best to prevent themselves from falling due to how hard the ground was shaking.

Those who were more quick-witted didn’t hesitate to use Wind Magic, lifting themselves off the ground to escape the mayhem around them.

Soon, loud thunderclaps reverberated across the surroundings. Yet, there was not even a single thundercloud in the sky.

Those thunderclaps instead came from the impact of each punch that Antaeus landed on the Dark Knight’s body, who was unable to overpower his opponent.

The two were exchanging blows left and right. However, it was very obvious who was the one taking more damage.

Renard wasn’t wearing any heavy armor. And yet, his skin was so hard that any one of Charles’ punches that managed to land directly against his opponent’s body created sparks that scattered like fireworks.

This was a clash of powerhouses, and the only thing that Alex and his friends could do was watch the carnage as it unfolded before their very eyes.

Eventually, Charles screeched loudly, calling out to his ant army to help him.

He alone was not enough to defeat this abomination, who appeared to be invincible.

"Don’t let the ants interfere!" Alex ordered as he summoned countless magical shields, coated them in flames, and then fired them at the flying ants that were diving toward Renard from the sky.

Latifa, Evangeline, and Vaan also took action.

Meanwhile, Dim Dim, who seemed to have disappeared during the battle, was now back and riding on a magical shield.

It was holding a wooden sandal in its hand, hollering like a Wargod as it slapped every insect it passed through to kingdom come.

With the little bun leading the charge, the elves who were able to return to their Hippogriff mounts joined the fray.

They focused on facing off against the flying ants. It was more efficient, for those on the ground were just as helpless as their master.

With the ground shaking like mad, the ants were having a hard time moving.

The violent vibrations triggered their instincts, causing many of them to freeze in place rather than advance across the unstable ground.

On the other hand, those that managed to come within Antaeus’ striking range met a brutal end, their bodies exploding upon getting hit by one of his punches.

’We can do this!’ Alex finally saw a silver lining to the battle.

From the looks of it, Charles was unable to face off against Renard, who was currently under the control of the Synchronization Rate.

It seemed that they could forcefully enter this state by simply surrendering to it of their own accord.

That was what Renard had done, which Alex had also considered doing when he eventually faced Reverse Alex.

He just didn’t know how King Aetherion would react when facing the invader from a parallel world.

Though now that he had seen that this gamble could actually pay off, Alex was determined to use it as a last resort.

"What’s wrong?" Antaeus asked in a teasing tone while his fists pummeled Charles’ body like a punching bag. "Is that your best?!"

The sheer brutality of every blow had cracked the armor that covered Charles’ body.

The mask that covered his mouth area had already been ripped off by Antaeus earlier. There, blood flowed from Charles lips, dyeing the ground under him red.

"Hahaha! You’re fun to punch!" Antaeus laughed. "You’re tougher than you look, but you’re still weak!"

With an uppercut aimed at Charles’ jaw, the pitiful Dark Knight was blasted off his feet.

Alex waved his hand, and soon, countless magical shields manifested, forming a net to catch his now unconscious friend.

"Too bad. Fun’s over." Antaeus shook his head before closing his eyes.

A moment later, Renard regained control of his body.

Then, the young man collapsed on the ground. At that moment, his face was pale, drained of strength, and writhing in pain.

This seemed to be the side effect of borrowing Antaeus’ power while under the influence of the Synchronization Rate.

"Are you alright?" Alex landed right by his side and handed him a healing potion.

"No," Renard answered before accepting the potion that was given to him.

He drank all of it in one go, only to then ask Alex for another one when he was done.

After drinking three healing potions, the paleness on Renard’s face slowly disappeared.

However, he was still exhausted.

"Did we win?" Renard asked.

"We did," Alex replied. "All thanks to you."

"And Charles?"

"He’s alive but unconscious."

Renard breathed a sigh of relief. Truth be told, he was also very anxious and fearful, for he didn’t know what would happen to him while he was under the effects of the Synchronization Rate.

He simply took a gamble, which fortunately paid off.

With the battle won, Alex and his army retreated with the unconscious Charles tied up with adamantine chains.

Latifa had used her healing spells to help him recover, while Nessia nursed him with healing potions.

Now that their plan to recover Charles was complete, what was left was to find a way to help him break free from the influence of the Synchronization Rate.

Aside from that, there was also a second option.

Help him find a way to take control over the body while under the Synchronization Rate.

If they could do such a thing, then they might just find a way to take control over their own Synchronization Rate, which would help them in their fight against their counterparts from Reverse Arcana.
