Era of Magic and Martial Arts
Chapter 800 - 681: Eerie
Chapter 800: Chapter 681: Eerie
The ground floor living room in front of him is a mess, as if it had been ruthlessly ravaged by an invisible storm.
The expensive handmade wool carpet was overturned, crumpled into a lump, stained with blood that had already turned black and hardened.
The delicate European-style sofa was slashed open by a sharp weapon, filling burst out, the chandelier shattered into a crystalline wreckage across the ground, fragments scattered everywhere.
Li Shang’s face was solemn as he took the lead in starting the investigation from the first floor.
He first scanned the stove in the open-plan kitchen, where a roughly drawn irregular circle marked in standard crime scene white chalk was clearly visible.
The circle was empty inside, but at the center of the circle, the technical department had placed a numbered evidence marker.
There had once been a head placed there, the head of a maid from this villa.
And on the ground there was also the outline of a headless corpse, with an evidence marker similarly placed beside it.
Li Shang’s expression was calm as water as he reached out his hand, and a constable from the technical department immediately caught on, handing him a stack of freshly developed photos.
The photos carried a slight chemical smell, but the images were clear and brutal.
Li Shang scrutinized each photo, comparing angles and details, trying to penetrate the still images and reconstruct in his mind the moment the maid was killed.
"Seems like... she was stealthily approached from behind and then suddenly attacked, not having a chance to resist throughout?"
Li Shang murmured to himself, a hint of skepticism appearing on his face, his eyebrows knitting involuntarily.
The villa’s front door was shattered violently; the entire first floor was filled with a rough and tragic aura, revealing the savagery of the culprit.
Such a ruthless person sneaking up from behind to attack a maid seems a bit too gentle, doesn’t it?
He had every capability and should have been more inclined to use direct and violent means to destroy her.
Li Shang put down the photos, refraining from making any conclusions immediately and instead suppressing his doubts temporarily.
The investigation had just begun.
Li Shang stepped nimbly over the debris and bloodstains on the ground, walking towards the maid dormitory nestled in the corner of the villa’s first floor.
The door to the maid dormitory was ajar, and the scene within formed a stark contrast to the chaos outside in the living room.
The place was somewhat excessively tidy.
A few identical beds lined up neatly, beds made with plain sheets, slightly disheveled but devoid of any severe signs of destruction.
There were no overturned furniture, no shredded textiles, no traces of struggle found, just each bed displaying a chalk outline representing death.
Everything was overly "tidy," aside from death itself.
Li Shang crouched down, almost lying flat on the ground, observing the bloodstains, now a dark reddish-brown spread across the floor.
His fingers traced the void above the blood stain tracks, deducing from years of experience the angle of attack on the maids in bed, and the angle and force applied by the killer when wielding the murder weapon.
The angle of blood spray, the force of the gush, the pattern of the drips... every drop of coagulated blood now seemed like a silent word in his eyes, woven into a complete sentence that describes the Truth.
Chang Erbing whispered beside him:
"The technical department judged the time of death to be around the early hours of last night; their throats were slashed with a sharp weapon while they were in deep sleep, hardly having time to struggle."
Li Shang said nothing, merely nodding his head in agreement as his deduction aligned with the technical department’s findings.
All the maids were assassinated in their slumber in an exceptionally quiet manner.
The murderer acted precisely, calmly, even professionally.
He slipped into this room, silently and invisibly claiming the lives of these maids like harvesting crops amid darkness and silence.
There’s an odd sense of disconnect between the maids’ death scenes and the villa’s overall carnage.
Simply put, the style between the two seems somewhat mismatched.
Either the culprit has a split Spirit, or...
An astonishing hypothesis, like lightning cutting through darkness, suddenly surfaced in Li Shang’s mind.
His pupils contracted slightly, but he didn’t utter this conjecture aloud, instead springing to his feet, hastily dashing out of the bedroom and hurrying towards the second floor.
Chang Erbing and others quickly followed, joined by the men from the Mechanical Department, who furrowed their brows deeply.
Though unfamiliar with the art of investigation, the skill of perceptive observation cultivated within the Executive Government building had long been maxed out; he noticed the changes in Li Shang’s expression, evidently having discovered some sort of clue.
Li Shang had no time to spare, quickly striding upstairs to the second floor.
A glance swept over the stairwell walls, densely covered with tiny pinholes, giving him a new evaluation of the intense battle on the second floor.
Then, without hesitation, he stepped into the severely damaged room on the second floor.
The style of this room matched that of the entire villa.
The same fierce wreckage; hardly any furniture remained intact, with wood chips and torn fabric scattered throughout.
The walls adorned with luxurious wallpaper or oil paintings were densely filled with countless tiny pinholes.
And in the center of the floor was a large darkened patch of coagulated blood, resembling an ugly dark rug, exuding a nauseating putrid stench.
Li Shang’s nose twitched slightly.
He was too familiar with the scent of blood: the fresh metallic tang, the rusty odor after coagulation, even the sour stench of decay... yet the smell of this pool of blood was somewhat unusual.
It was too "stinky."
It didn’t seem like the blood left by someone recently deceased.
