Chapter 325: Chapter 212: Demon Wolf

Fang Yue narrowed his eyes, a sense of caution rising within him. He had a nagging feeling that this Li Mengyao was more than she let on.

After a moment of silence, Fang Yue said, "Miss Li, you’ve misunderstood! I don’t have that kind of interest in you."

"How could that be? Am I not pretty?" Li Mengyao’s beautiful eyes went wide, clearly in disbelief. She was very confident in her appearance.

’She refused to believe there was a man alive who wouldn’t be interested in her.’

"You’re very beautiful, but beauty and attraction are two different things!" Fang Yue said.

"Don’t tell me you already have someone you like, Fang?" Li Mengyao huffed, turning her back on Fang Yue and ignoring him.

Fang Yue gave a wry smile. ’This woman is so capricious.’ It wasn’t that he found her unattractive; he was simply wary of her.

’If it were another time, another place, maybe something could have happened between them.’

’But now, of course, it was impossible.’

"Alright, we should get out of here," Fang Yue said.

The bodies on the main road still lay there, and there was no telling if the Changping Army had reinforcements coming. ’It’s best to leave now.’

"Hmph, fine, let’s go!" Li Mengyao huffed, spun around, and stalked off ahead.

Fang Yue shook his head and followed her.

~~~~~~
A quarter of an hour later, the two of them passed through a dense forest and came to a mountain path.
They paused for a moment to ensure it was safe before continuing on their way.
After walking for a good half hour, Fang Yue and Li Mengyao finally reached the nearest town.
Once there, they washed up, rested for a while, and had something to eat. Afterward, they bought two horses and turned south to continue their journey.
"Fang, where are we going? This isn’t the road to Yujing City, is it?" Li Mengyao asked, a little surprised as she watched the path he took. "I remember the territory ahead is occupied by the Rebel King, King Changping. If we go this way, aren’t we just walking right into a trap?"
"Heh, it’s nothing," Fang Yue said with a smile. "I just have some personal business to take care of. If you don’t want to come along, you’re free to leave on your own!"
When Li Mengyao saw that Fang Yue seemed to be deliberately trying to get rid of her, she couldn’t accept it. ’After all, I still need a chance to ’devour’ him!’
’How could I let my ’prey’ escape my sight so easily?’
"Hmph, I’m going to follow you anyway!" Li Mengyao pouted.
Fang Yue shook his head but said no more, simply continuing on his way.
The two rode for about an hour and finally arrived just outside a town.
By then, the town had already fallen into chaos.
In the villages on the town’s outskirts, a group of soldiers had gathered—though it would be more fitting to call them Bandits.
These soldiers wore mismatched uniforms, and their weapons were a motley assortment. The only thing they had in common was an earth-yellow cloth band tied around their arms.
Many corpses lay scattered around the soldiers. There were also many beggars in tattered clothes, covered in wounds, as well as elderly women, young people, and even children.
These rebels were truly depraved. They rampaged around the town, looting homes and slaughtering innocent civilians, not even sparing women and children. They were utterly devoid of humanity.
The perimeter of the town was now heavily guarded; anyone who tried to break out was killed on sight.
"Fang, look at those Bandits. They’re despicable," Li Mengyao said with a frown, watching the rebels in the distance. "Shouldn’t we do something?"
"Heh, Miss Li, I think it’s best we don’t meddle," Fang Yue said with a small smile, shaking his head.
"What, are you scared? I’ll be forced to look down on you!" Li Mengyao scoffed.
"Heh, I’m just pointing out that the world isn’t always a just and fair place. If we make a move here, I’m afraid we won’t be able to leave so easily."
’There are thousands of rebels here, including quite a few Martial Artists and Martial Masters.’
’If it really came to a fight, I could probably kill all of these Rebel Army soldiers.’
’But afterward, the Rebel King would surely send his experts to hunt us down.’
"Fine. In that case, let’s get out of here," Li Mengyao said, not trying to press the issue.
Hearing this, Fang Yue nodded.
~~~~~~

Just as he was about to leave, Fang Yue stopped. He turned his head, his gaze landing on the group of rebels—or more precisely, on a carriage in their center.

The carriage was odd; it was completely shrouded in black cloth.

A number of men stood guard around the carriage. They were all clad in armor, wielding steel sabers, and reeking of blood.

’Something’s wrong with these men!’

Fang Yue’s brow furrowed as he looked at the men and sensed their auras. They didn’t feel human; they felt more like wild beasts.

"Fang, what’s wrong?"

Li Mengyao asked, noticing his strange expression.

Fang Yue shook his head without a word, his gaze remaining fixed on those men and the carriage.

CLINK, CLANK. The sound of a chain being unlocked echoed.

A wolf leaped down from the carriage.

The wolf’s fur was pitch-black, and its body was enormous. It radiated an incredibly dangerous aura. Lowering its head, it sniffed the lingering scent of blood in the air and let out an excited howl.

Then it charged directly into the town.

"ROAR!"

The wolf’s roar echoed through the sky, loud enough to be heard in every corner of the town.

This sudden development plunged the already terrified townspeople into even deeper fear.
