Every Sentinel I Dreamed of Came Looking for Me
Chapter 234: If I Got Beaten Up by Them, Would Your Heart Ache for Me?
Chapter 234: Chapter 234: If I Got Beaten Up by Them, Would Your Heart Ache for Me?
The tips of Yun Sheng’s ears burned hot. She looked away, her voice muffled. "Who wants to look..."
Xing Che chuckled softly. The sound rumbled from his chest, carrying a hint of amusement and an indescribable tenderness.
He said no more, simply reaching out to gently take her hand and press her palm against his heart.
Through his skin, she could feel Xing Che’s heart pound, fast and heavy, hammering against her palm like a drum.
"Can you feel it?" His voice was low, a near murmur in her ear. "It’s beating so fast. Because of you."
Yun Sheng’s fingers curled slightly, and she tried to pull her hand back, but Xing Che held it tight, refusing to let her break free.
Her cheeks were burning, and even her neck was flushed a pale pink.
She lowered her gaze, not daring to meet his overly gentle eyes, nor to look at his half-bare, all-too-inviting body.
’This guy’s spiritual power isn’t even unstable anymore, yet he’s deliberately taking off his clothes to tempt me! It’s... it’s just...’
Seeing her look so flustered and vexed, the amusement in Xing Che’s eyes deepened.
He slowly lowered his head, leaning close to her ear. His warm, seductive breath brushed against her skin.
"Shengsheng, your ears are red."
Yun Sheng stiffened. She instinctively turned her head to pull away, but his other hand had already wrapped around her waist, pressing her back against the cave wall and preventing her escape.
His long fingers deliberately caressed the side of her waist. Through the thin fabric, his touch was so hot it felt like it would burn.
"L-let me go..."
Yun Sheng’s voice was unbelievably weak.
’After Xing Che had kissed her like that, her body was already stirred up. The feeling hadn’t even subsided, and now this... How could she possibly bear it!’
Hearing her, Xing Che didn’t let go. Instead, he pulled her even closer.
His gaze roamed over her face, from her eyes to the tip of her nose, and from her nose to her lips, tracing every inch as if admiring something precious.
"I’m not letting go," he said with a hint of childish stubbornness. "It took me long enough to get you in my arms. I can’t bear to let go now."
Looking at Xing Che like this, Yun Sheng had to admit that, for just a moment, she was moved.
But her reason quickly prevailed.
She forced herself to keep a straight face and stared at Xing Che, enunciating each word clearly. "If you’re better now, we should get out of here. I’m worried about the little wolf."
’Before, Xing Che had almost rampaged under the influence of the induction agent. She had only let her spiritual power intertwine with his to guide him and prevent his condition from worsening.’
’After all, those gray-robed men with ulterior motives were still outside. Xing Che absolutely couldn’t afford to rampage at a time like this.’
’But now that he was almost fully recovered, how could they just keep wasting time here!’
Xing Che narrowed his eyes. The corner of his lip curled in a smile that held a hint of slyness and something else she couldn’t quite decipher.
’He could already sense two powerful presences steadily approaching: Si Jin and Bai Ye.’
’If he didn’t hold Yun Sheng a little longer now, he was afraid that once they arrived, he wouldn’t be able to touch so much as a single one of her fingers!’
"Don’t worry, it’s fine," he said in a low, certain tone. "Si Jin has already found it."
Yun Sheng’s eyes suddenly brightened, like a lantern lit in the dead of night.
"Really?" Her voice rose unconsciously, laced with urgency and delight.
Xing Che looked at her sparkling eyes and suddenly felt a pang of jealousy.
’Was she really that happy just hearing Si Jin’s name?!’
He hummed softly, resting his chin on the crown of her head. His voice was muffled. "It’s true. I’m a puppy if I’m lying to you."
Yun Sheng felt helpless. Unable to push him away, she could only lean silently in his arms.
After a few seconds, she suddenly remembered something and looked up sharply at Xing Che.
"You just said ’they.’ Besides Si Jin, who else is here?"
Xing Che’s lips pressed into a thin line, and a flicker of discomfort crossed his amber-gold eyes.
He looked away. "...No one else."
Yun Sheng stared at his guilty expression, her brow furrowing slightly.
"Xing Che." Her voice dropped.
Xing Che gritted his teeth and finally said, reluctantly, "...Bai Ye is here, too."
Yun Sheng froze for a moment, a complex emotion flashing in her eyes.
’Bai Ye is here too?’
’Isn’t he on Capital Star?!’
She bit her lip, saying nothing.
Seeing her pensive look, the sour feeling of jealousy bubbled up in Xing Che’s chest again. He couldn’t resist reaching out and flicking her lightly on the forehead.
"What, are you happy he’s here?"
Yun Sheng rubbed her forehead and glared at him. "What makes you think I’m happy?"
After she spoke, however, she suddenly felt a pang of guilt.
’That dream she’d had, the one with her and Bai Ye...’
The images flashed through her mind. She lowered her eyes, her lashes trembling slightly as her fingers clenched unconsciously.
’She had been deliberately trying to forget about Bai Ye, because she had no idea how to face him.’
’She had rejected him, yet in her dreams, those things had happened between them...’
’Yun Sheng couldn’t say what it meant. Was it a moment of weakness? An impulse? A flutter of attraction? Or something else entirely.’
’She only knew that she didn’t dare think about it, and she didn’t dare face him!’
Xing Che noticed the change in her demeanor. He looked down at her, his brow furrowed slightly. "What are you thinking about?"
Yun Sheng shook her head, then deliberately changed the subject. "If you knew they were coming, why did you take your clothes off? Xing Che, let me go!"
As she spoke, she pushed hard against Xing Che again.
’This guy! He knew those two were almost here, yet he still stripped down to tease her, and now he was clinging to her and refusing to let go. He was basically setting a trap for her.’
Xing Che’s lips curved into a wry smile. His voice was low and carried a tone of brazen confidence.
"I’m just taking the chance to hold you a little longer before they get here. Otherwise, once they arrive, I won’t be able to touch a single one of your fingers."
’Those two were jealousy incarnate. Then again, if he were in their shoes, he’d feel the same way. He definitely wouldn’t want to see Yun Sheng getting involved with other Sentinels either!’
His words left Yun Sheng speechless for a moment. Then, she said faintly, "Acting like this... I’m afraid you’re about to get beaten up."
Xing Che glanced down at his open collar, then at Yun Sheng’s anxious and angry expression. Far from being deterred, he deliberately pulled his collar even wider, revealing more of his chest and firm abs.
"Let them try. It’s not like we haven’t fought before. Besides, getting to hold you a little longer before I get beaten up? Worth it."
The tips of Yun Sheng’s ears burned even hotter. She pushed him a few more times, but when she truly couldn’t move him, she gave up. Biting her lip, she was filled with a mix of anger and helplessness.
’This guy... how could he be so shameless!’
Outside the cave, the two powerful presences drew closer and closer.
Xing Che’s brow twitched. He grabbed Yun Sheng’s hand and pressed it flat against his bare chest.
Then, he leaned in and gave her a quick peck on the corner of her lips. "Shengsheng," he murmured, "if they really beat me up, will your heart ache for me?"
