Chapter 106: Enormous Battle Axe

"Ohhhh!"

A look of mild surprise crossed Long Feng’s face.

But Lu Qiang stared at him. His mouth twitched upon his dull reaction.

"That’s it?"

Long Feng glanced at him. "Should I hand out sweets now?"

Li Qiang almost choked on his own words. He stared at Long Feng with wide eyes before lowering his voice.

"You don’t understand. He’s not the descendant of some ordinary elder."

"What do you mean?" Long Feng raised an eyebrow.

"He’s the descendant of a true elder." Li Qiang emphasized every word, his expression becoming unusually serious.

"Do you understand what that means? I’m not talking about an ordinary Inner Elder. He’s the descendant of a real Honorable Elder of the Vermilion Flame Sect!"

This time, Long Feng finally understood that the words Li Qiang had used earlier carried far more weight than he had initially thought.

"An Honorable Elder..." He repeated the words quietly.

The elders he normally see around the sect aren’t the highest-ranking existences within a Great Sect.

Most of the elders they see are either Outer Elders or Inner Elders. Their responsibilities are different, and their authority within the sect also varies.

Like Elder Xu and Elder Dong, they were all come in the category of Inner Elders.

Although their status seem very high within sect, they were just above the disciples. They didn’t have authority over core matters of sect.

After all, a sect that had existed for countless years and stood among the Seven Great Sects of the Central Region naturally couldn’t have its strongest experts appearing openly before ordinary disciples.

But until now, he hadn’t paid much attention to the hierarchy above the elders he had encountered.

But he knew that above Inner Elders... there are even more powerful existences. They were addressed as Honorable Elders.

"Exactly."

Looking at his expressions, Li Qiang guessed that he had finally realized the seriousness of the situation. He lowered his voice and said.

"An Honorable Elder is a true pillar of a Great Sect. Their position isn’t something that an ordinary elder can compare with."

Long Feng’s expression gradually became serious.

"How strong are they?"

Li Qiang looked at him.

"Transcendent Void Ascension Realm."

The words immediately made Long Feng’s eyes widen slightly.

"Transcendent Void Ascension..."

He had expected them to be powerful. But he hadn’t expected their cultivation to reach such a level.

Li Qiang nodded upon his shock.

"Among the disciples, reaching the Void Ascension Realm is already something almost impossible. Even the most monstrous disciples of the Seven Great Sects have difficulty reaching such a realm. Yet every Honorable Elders had stepped into the realm above Void Ascension Realm."

"Then..." Long Feng’s eyes narrowed. "If Han Tianyu has such backing, why is he still only an inner disciple?"

But Li Qiang smiled upon his question.

"I knew you would ask that."

Looking at his confused face, he continued.

"Because Han Tianyu’s ambition isn’t limited to becoming an inner disciple. His vision is much higher."

Long Feng’s expression became thoughtful.

"Think about it." Li Qiang pointed toward the arena.

"Among the disciples of any of the Seven Great Sects, becoming an inner disciple is only the beginning."

"The truly outstanding ones aim for the position of True Disciple or even above that... Holy Son."

"To reach such a position within any of the Seven Great Sects, talent alone isn’t enough. Strength is naturally important, but so is fame."

"Fame?"

"Yes." Li Qiang smiled.

"A sect won’t casually hand such a position to someone nobody knows."

"A disciple needs overwhelming strength, extraordinary talent, achievements that attract the attention of the sect, and enough support from other disciples."

"Only then can that person establish themselves at the highest level among the younger generation."

Long Feng slowly understood.

"So Han Tianyu wants to use this competition..."

"Exactly."

Li Qiang nodded. "This championship is an opportunity for him."

Long Feng didn’t answer.

His gaze remained fixed on the Vermilion Flame Sect’s disciples. So that was Han Tianyu’s purpose.

"Then I suppose we’ll see how much ability this descendant of an Honorable Elder actually possesses."

Long Feng’s expression gradually became interested.

"You’ll find out soon." Li Qiang smiled.

As their discussion continued, the atmosphere became tense again.

The referee looked toward the right side and called.

"The next challenger!"

A disciple slowly walked forward from the remaining Vermilion Flame Sect’s disciples.

He was an enormous man. His body was broad and muscular, with thick arms and shoulders that made his sect’s official robes appear unusually tight.

In his hand was an enormous axe, that many spectators couldn’t help but stare.

"What a huge axe."

"Is that really a weapon?"

"It’s almost bigger than his body!"

The massive axe was nearly as tall as the disciple himself. Its broad blade reflected a cold metallic light beneath the sunlight. Just looking at it gave people a sense of heaviness.

Long Feng’s gaze also landed on the weapon. His eyebrows rose slightly.

’That’s quite a weapon.’

Even without touching it, he could tell that the weapon possessed an astonishing weight. The dense spiritual energy surrounding its blade also indicated that it had been refined from an unusually heavy material.

Fortunately, the two sects had established restrictions before the competition. The weapons carried by the disciples could not exceed the Profound Rank.

Otherwise, if a disciple brought an extremely powerful Earth or even Heaven Rank weapon into the arena, the weapon itself could become a overpowered cheat.

For Long Feng, this restriction didn’t matter much.

But for ordinary disciples, it was an important limitation.

The axe-wielding disciple stopped in the center of the arena. His eyes moved toward Long Feng as he smiled.

"So you’re the last one."

Long Feng slowly walked forward.

"Looks like it."

The disciple tightened his grip around the axe handle.

"After watching several battles, I was wondering what kind of person would be left until the end."

His gaze swept over Long Feng’s body. Then he noticed that Long Feng wasn’t carrying any weapon.

"You’re fighting bare-handed?" His smile became wider.

"Yes."

Long Feng looked at his empty hands.

The surrounding spectators immediately became excited.

"He’s actually going to fight that axe bare-handed?"

"Is he crazy? That axe is enormous!"

"Even if it’s only Profound Rank, getting hit by something that heavy would be terrifying."

Some Vermilion disciples sneered that he was underestimating his opponent. That axe isn’t something you can block with your hands.

The axe-wielding disciple also laughed a heartly laugh.

"You’re quite confident."

Long Feng didn’t bother answering.

"Begin!" The referee raised his hand.

The instant the referee’s voice fell, the enormous disciple’s foot slammed against the arena.

BOOM!

His massive body shot forward like a charging beast. Muscles bulged across his arms as spiritual energy surged through his meridians and poured into the enormous axe in his hands.

He raised the weapon above his head with both hands.

"Mountain Splitting Axe!"

The massive axe descended. Its terrifying weight caused the surrounding air to distort.

Long Feng’s eyes narrowed. He immediately stepped to the side.

BOOM!

The axe slammed into the arena and a violent shockwave spread outward. Fragments of stone flew into the air.

The enormous disciple immediately pulled the axe back.

His movements were surprisingly fast for someone wielding such a massive weapon. He swung his axe again.

Whoosh!

The giant blade swept horizontally toward Long Feng.

Long Feng leaned backward. The axe passed less than an inch from his chest. The wind pressure alone caused his robes to flutter violently.

’Heavy, but not slow.’

The disciple clearly possessed extraordinary physical strength. Every swing of the axe carried terrifying destructive power.

More importantly, he had enough control over his body to compensate for the weapon’s enormous weight.

He should have practiced a extremely powerful body refining technique.

"Don’t run!" The disciple grinned.

He suddenly stepped forward. The axe changed direction. A diagonal slash descended toward Long Feng.

Long Feng raised his fist and collided directly with the side of the axe.

BANG!

The massive weapon was deflected slightly.

The disciple’s expression changed.

’He blocked it?’

Long Feng’s body barely moved. The spectators were stunned with this move.

"His fist actually knocked the axe away!"

"How strong is his body?"

The axe-wielding disciple’s expression became serious.

He immediately tightened his grip and launched another series of attacks.

Slash!

Slash!

Sweep!

The enormous axe moved through the air repeatedly, each attack carried enough force to shatter stone. Yet Long Feng continued avoiding them with seemingly effortless movements.

Sometimes he stepped sideways, sometimes he leaned backward. Sometimes he directly punched the flat side of the axe and changed its trajectory.

The Vermilion Flame Sect’s disciple’s face gradually became ugly.

’How is he moving so easily?’

He suddenly roared. His spiritual energy erupted from his body like a tide, instantly pouring into the enormous axe.

The surface of the weapon trembled violently. A heavy pressure spread across the arena, causing the surrounding dust and fragments of stone to rise from the ground.

"Earth Splitting Axe!"

BOOM!

This time, the attack was completely different from his previous swings.

He brought the axe above his head before bringing it down with all the strength in his body. The terrifying force compressed the surrounding air and created a visible ripple that spread outward from the descending blade.

The pressure caused the arena beneath Long Feng’s feet to tremble. But his expression remained calm as he stepped backward and just then, the axe crashed down.

Bang!!!

A deep crater appeared in the arena, dust exploded outward.

The Vermilion Flame Sect’s disciple immediately pulled the axe upward, then he swept it horizontally.

"Die!"

The giant blade cut through the dust cloud. Its destructive force was enough to make several spectators gasp.

For an instant, it seemed as though the axe was about to strike Long Feng directly.
