Fated love: the unwanted bride
Chapter 2557: I Didn’t Bring Candy Today, Can I Hold You?
Jasmine Yale sat on the bedroom carpet, letting Little Clementine crawl around on it.
She took out some fun building blocks, teaching Little Clementine how to stack them.
Unfortunately, Little Clementine had little patience, and after playing for a while, she refused to play anymore, kicking the blocks to the side.
Feeling helpless, Jasmine Yale was also too lazy to teach her further, so she put away the blocks and let Little Clementine play by herself on the carpet.
Butler Santana came in to bring Jasmine Yale some milk, seeing her sitting on the carpet lost in thought, he couldn’t help but ask, "Miss Yale, what’s on your mind?"
"Butler Santana." Jasmine Yale snapped back to reality, "It’s nothing, just a lot of work lately, a bit overwhelming."
"In that case, go to bed early, and I’ll watch over Little Clementine." Butler Santana put down the milk cup.
However, despite saying this, Butler Santana knew deep down that this wasn’t the real reason.
Jasmine Yale’s work had always been busy, but she had never complained or been bothered by it; rather, she embraced the busyness wholeheartedly.
Jasmine Yale didn’t say anything more, and Butler Santana picked up Little Clementine, taking her out.
Little Clementine wasn’t being very obedient tonight, moving around endlessly, restless. Butler Santana had to hold her by the window, as Little Clementine loved looking outside, fascinated by the world beyond.
Who knew, as Butler Santana stood by the window, he spotted a familiar figure standing under a tall green tree, tall and solitary.
He wasn’t smoking, just standing there silently, hands in the pockets of his trousers.
Butler Santana was taken aback; wasn’t this Mr. Cheney?
No wonder...
Little Clementine pressed against the window, her big eyes looking outside, full of curiosity and joy, waving her little hands.
Sylvan Cheney hadn’t been looking up, but when he occasionally did, he saw Little Clementine pressed against the window.
Little Clementine was waving, and he curled his lips into a smile.
Whether or not Little Clementine saw him, she certainly became even happier, her mouth spreading into a wide grin, laughing nonstop.
Butler Santana also saw Sylvan Cheney.
Little Clementine leaned forward, but the glass in the way left her pressing her face against it, feeling both frustrated and helpless.
Butler Santana looked at Sylvan Cheney, then at Little Clementine again.
The breeze outside was gentle.
After a while, Butler Santana carried Little Clementine downstairs.
In such a summer, the wind was just right, time was quiet, and every breath was filled with memories.
Seeing Butler Santana coming downstairs, Sylvan Cheney was surprised, looking at him in astonishment before shifting his gaze to Little Clementine.
Little Clementine, upon seeing Sylvan Cheney, shyly hid in Butler Santana’s arms at first, then boldly looked at Sylvan Cheney with her little hands covering her face, her big eyes shining like dark grapes.
Sylvan Cheney didn’t move, holding eye contact with Little Clementine.
Butler Santana stepped closer, holding out Little Clementine to him.
"Mr. Cheney, long time no see." Butler Santana greeted him first.
It had indeed been a long time since she last saw Sylvan Cheney.
Sylvan Cheney was just the same, without major changes.
"Hmm." Sylvan Cheney responded, looking at Little Clementine, "I didn’t bring any candy today. May I hold her?"
Little Clementine squirmed in Butler Santana’s arms, although she didn’t understand what Sylvan Cheney said, she kept her eyes fixed on him.
Butler Santana didn’t quite get Sylvan Cheney’s meaning—did he often bring candy? Had he met Little Clementine many times?
Little Clementine stared at Sylvan Cheney. Sylvan Cheney reached out a hand from his trousers, making an embracing gesture, "If you want a hug, come over."
Little Clementine grinned happily, her little hands reaching out.
