Fated love: the unwanted bride
Chapter 2565: He Lowered His Head and Spat Out a Mouthful of Blood
She tapped the elevator button, and when the elevator door opened, she quickly ran inside.
The elevator was extremely quiet, with only her uneven breathing breaking the silence.
She leaned against the elevator wall and quietly closed her eyes.
The sound of the elevator operating gently reached her ears as it slowly moved upward until the door opened once more.
The rain outside hadn’t stopped, the mist swirled, and leaves drifted down.
Sylvan Cheney in the corridor turned around, leaning against the wall Jasmine Yale had just leaned on, his deep gaze fixed on the ceaselessly falling rain.
Nearby was the rain, and in the distance was darkness; in this still night, there was nothing.
The taste of Jasmine Yale lingered on his lips, familiar and lingering.
Something seemed to be blocking his chest, making it difficult for him to breathe. His chest heaved unevenly, and his suit was long since wrinkled.
No one knows how long he stood there, when suddenly, he lowered his head and spat out a mouthful of blood.
Unexpectedly, a burst of blood filled his mouth with a bitter and salty taste.
The red bloodstain on the ground was shocking.
Blood stained the corner of his lips as well, and Sylvan Cheney laughed, a cold hint in his smile.
He took a handkerchief from his suit pocket and wiped his lips.
Outside, the wind was strong, with occasional flashes of lightning and peals of thunder. The clouds rolled in, and the sky grew dark.
He propped himself against the wall and picked up the umbrella that had fallen to the ground, feeling an overwhelming fatigue.
After a long time, he finally stood up, opened the umbrella, and silently watched the rain beyond the eaves, his knuckles turning white.
After standing for a moment, he strode into the rain, his leather shoes splashing droplets.
The darkness gradually swallowed his silhouette, which shrank into a small dot and disappeared.
When Jasmine Yale drew the curtains upstairs, she saw his departing figure. She smirked with disdain and contempt in her eyes.
He had changed completely.
She decisively pulled the curtains shut, turned around, and looked at Little Clementine in the crib.
Little Clementine was sleeping, exceptionally peaceful and comfortable.
Jasmine Yale bent down and planted a kiss on her forehead.
She returned to bed and turned off the lamp.
The night rain continued to fall.
...
Since that day, Jasmine Yale had not seen Sylvan Cheney again.
She traveled daily between home and the company, following Will Caddel to construction sites, meeting clients, and attending social events.
On weekends, Justin Usama would come to pick her up for dinner.
Because Jasmine Yale and Justin Usama were both quite busy with work, their activities sometimes were limited to just having a meal together, not even having time to watch a movie.
Sunday.
After eating, Justin Usama took her for a walk in a nearby mall.
Passing by a jewelry counter, Justin Usama stopped and pointed at a delicate little pendant: "This is beautiful. I’ll buy it as a gift for Little Clementine. Last time, I didn’t bring her a present, no wonder she’s not close to me."
"No need," Jasmine Yale quickly waved her hand. "She doesn’t lack these things, really no need. If you want to give her a gift, a soft toy will do."
Jasmine Yale refused any gift that was too valuable.
"Alright, let’s talk about it later. I’ll go buy her a stuffed toy."
They wandered about casually in the mall.
Justin Usama bought a Little Pig Peppa toy and tossed it into Jasmine Yale’s hand: "Isn’t this quite popular recently? Here, take it. It’s a gift for Little Clementine."
Jasmine Yale laughed, staring at the Little Pig Peppa in her hand: "Little Clementine will definitely like this."
"As long as she likes it. Next time, I’ll buy her something else. I hope the next time I see her, she’ll let me hold her."
"She will. She just wasn’t familiar with you last time."
