At that time, he replied to her with two words "I can."

She once thought that a gentleman’s word was unbreakable, but now looking back, promises... are just empty words.

He had said so many things that sometimes she couldn’t remember them all.

For example, he said, "Jasmine Yale, let’s always be this good to each other."

But in the end, the one who didn’t want to continue was him.

She always had the habit of taking everyone’s words seriously, and even seriously fulfilling her promises. Once, she held onto the two dolls he bought for her, earnestly thinking that they should never part, no matter the weather.

She was always the type of person who could live happily with just a bit of sunshine from others.

And now, even that small bit of sunshine was gone.

She walked a few steps around the apartment without watering the small plants on the balcony, nor did she clean the apartment. She left after a few minutes.

There’s nothing to care about.

She went to the supermarket to buy groceries, learning to cook from Butler Santana, making delicious food for Little Clementine. These were the things that brought her the most joy now.

When she returned home, Butler Santana was reading a newspaper, his brow furrowed.

Upon seeing Jasmine Yale return, he quickly put away the newspaper and took the groceries from her hand.

"Miss Yale, do you want to learn to cook today? What will you learn?"

"Butler Santana, am I a bit stupid? I’ve learned some dishes so many times and still can’t get them right. Let’s continue learning stir-fried beef with black pepper today, yesterday it was all burnt."

"Take your time. I think you’re doing quite well."

Jasmine Yale had been at home for quite some time since she resigned.

She always felt she had no talent for cooking, taking a long time to learn even a simple dish like scrambled eggs with tomatoes.

She stayed quietly in the kitchen with Butler Santana, learning.

"Butler Santana... there’s something I’ve always wanted to say to you," Jasmine Yale said while washing vegetables, her face devoid of expression.

But her tone made Butler Santana’s heart skip a beat: "Miss Yale, go ahead."

"Thank you for coming with me from Landon to Chicago, and for taking care of me for so long since I was pregnant, caring for me and Little Clementine so well. I can’t imagine how hard it would have been to live on my own back then. You gave me courage and hope in life." Jasmine Yale paused, "But in the future, there are some roads I have to learn to walk by myself, just like cooking, I have to learn to make it for myself."

Butler Santana was startled, his face full of surprise and bewilderment.

"Miss Yale, is it something I did wrong? Are you..."

"Don’t overthink it." Jasmine Yale smiled, "I just feel that you have no obligation to stay with me indefinitely. Now Little Clementine has grown, and isn’t difficult to care for. I’ve also quit my job so I can take care of Little Clementine by myself. You’re still young, and I don’t want to hold up your future..."

"But I promised Cheney..."

"It’s alright." She smiled, "You know my current situation with him; he’s started a family, has a legal wife and daughter, which is his choice. You’ve been with me for so long and have been very responsible; there’s no need to feel like you owe anything."

"Miss Yale, let me take care of you and Little Clementine. It’s too hard for you alone." Butler Santana felt sorry for her.

She didn’t know what happened; she just wanted to take a little bit of responsibility.

"I’ve quit my job now, so it’s not that hard." Jasmine Yale smiled.
