"In the care unit," Sebastian told her, and seeing her terrified eyes, he explained what had happened and why the baby had to be kept there for now. He left out the fact that the baby might not survive, according to Gilbert, because his body wasn’t developed enough to hold on.

"He will be fine, don’t worry." He assured her as her eyes looked longingly towards the door, but just then the baby in her arms began to whimper, and she looked down to see she was gripping her too tightly.

The baby’s eyes had come open, revealing blue eyes that stared up at her, and as though on cue, the one in Sebastian’s arms opened her eyes too and looked at him, her lips parting and her pink tongue sticking out as a tiny fist rubbed against her tiny nose.

"They have your eyes, darling," Sebastian noted.

"And your hair," Viola added, her heart aching for the third baby who wasn’t there. However, both babies seemed to be demanding her attention too, and she instinctively knew they were hungry.

She hesitantly pulled down the neckline of her gown, exposing her braless breast. Her nipple was swollen and tingling, its areola larger and pinker than usual. With her husband’s curious eyes on her, she tentatively brought it to the baby’s mouth, gently touching it against the infant’s lips.

As though she knew her meal had been presented to her, the little one latched on hungrily, making Viola grimace slightly as the sensitivity of her nipple made the sensation uncomfortable.

"Are they still sensitive?" Sebastian asked, knowing she had been struggling with sensitive nipples throughout her pregnancy. He had always been careful not to touch them too hard and had noticed her grimace.

Viola nodded. "A little, and they’re heavier too, but I believe it’ll stop once they suckle or I start pumping." She looked down at her baby suckling at her breast, and despite having decided not to breastfeed her daughters after they were born, she couldn’t help but feel herself melting at the unfamiliar tenderness of the moment.

As the baby suckled, Sebastian sat beside Viola with his back against the headboard, watching his daughter feed with almost childlike fascination. The way her tiny mouth moved as she suckled, her blue eyes staring up at the world, and her little legs kicking made him marvel at the sight.

Was there anything more beautiful than this moment? He wondered at the miracle of nature, at how two people could come together and create another being, only to find themselves loving that tiny life immediately, without the child having to do anything to earn their love.

How could anyone believe they could live their entire life alone without needing another person, only for someone to walk into their world, shake it, and make themselves at home in the most welcome way? If someone had told him a year ago that he would have a mate who would give him three children at once, he wouldn’t have believed it. Yet here he was, realizing just how much he loved this moment. He could watch them forever, if only it were possible to freeze time and shut out the rest of the world.

The one in his arms began to whimper hungrily as well, until her mouth puckered and she began to wail, her voice echoing in the room, and the couple exchanged looks.

"She’s hungry too." Sebastian said.

"I don’t think I can feed them both at once," Viola remarked, looking worriedly at the baby crying in Sebastian’s arms. She didn’t know what to do as the infant wailed, her little face growing pinker by the second.

"Oh my!" Viola exclaimed, growing restless and frightened as she watched the crying baby, unsure how to soothe her.

"Let me rock her. Let that one finish feeding first."

With that, Sebastian got out of bed and began pacing around the room, gently rocking the tiny baby in his arms. Viola watched him, taking in the sight of his tall frame cradling their little girl in his large arms. He wore a midnight-blue long-sleeved shirt and baggy black trousers, his shirt wrinkled where he held his daughter against him. He looked down at her with such a soft expression that he hardly seemed like himself.

He looked utterly mesmerized, so completely in love that Viola found herself admiring the change in his face as he began singing to their daughter in Spanish, his voice soothing and gentle. Almost immediately, the baby’s wailing quieted in his arms, as though his deep voice held some kind of magic.

"You seem to have gotten the hang of this more than I have," Viola remarked with a small smile, adjusting the baby in her arms.

"My sister liked being rocked and sung to when she was a newborn, and I watched my mom do it back then," he said, looking down at the baby, who had stopped crying. Her blue eyes were wide open, staring at him with such intensity that he found himself staring right back.

"Hello there," Sebastian mused, but the baby didn’t even blink. "I believe she’s trying to have a staring contest with me, mi amor. She’s staring so hard," he told his wife without taking his eyes off their daughter, who had won his heart against his will, despite his once believing that not loving another being was the safest way to avoid heartache and heartbreak.

"You’re so pretty, little one," he murmured, rubbing his index finger against her tiny nose. She scrunched up her face, making him smile before he glanced at his wife.

"What do we name them?" he asked.

Viola had never thought of names for girls, and all the ones she had picked out had been for boys. She bit her lower lip, uncertain of any name at all, and also worried about the third baby, who wasn’t well and was being kept away from her, whom she hadn’t seen yet.

"I haven’t thought of a name. Do you have any ideas?" She asked him, and he shook his head. "I never thought we’d have girls first."
