Fated: The Alpha's Unwanted Luna
Chapter 588: A restless mother
Viola looked down at the one feeding and saw that she had fallen asleep, and she slowly pulled her nipple from the baby’s mouth as she said, "How did everyone react to the news of them?" She turned and laid the baby down on the bed, then held out her arms for the other one.
Sebastian felt reluctant to give her up, as he suddenly realized he loved the tiny weight in his arms, but she was hungry, so he handed her over as he replied, "No one knows yet about their gender, and we have to keep it that way until the third one is out of danger before we announce it, or it will stir up unnecessary drama."
Viola exposed her other breast and fed it to their second daughter as she looked at Sebastian worriedly. "Is...he in that much danger? I want to see him."
"You will see him, but maybe not right now, I need to ask Gilbert first." He said, hoping that by the time Viola saw him, he wouldn’t look as small and vulnerable as Sebastian had seen him.
Their daughter tugged at her sensitive nipple a little too hard, making Viola hiss, and she looked down to see the baby staring at her so hard it was as though she could see through her soul, her eyes sharper than the first baby’s she had fed.
She rubbed her knuckle against the soft cheek as she said, "Aren’t you a beauty, my little flower." She cooed softly, and the baby blinked, before Viola looked up at her husband, who was watching them with a tender smile.
"Will they be fine when others finally know we had two girls? Did things change because of my bloodline, with twin girls being born? I don’t want them to be shunned..." She voiced her worry.
Sebastian returned to sit beside her, folding one leg onto the bed while keeping the other planted on the floor. He slipped an arm behind her back, drawing her against him before pressing his lips to her hair.
"They will do just fine. I don’t care about history or the change in it, my daughters will be treated with the respect that would be given to a male Alpha child and nothing less. Let our boy get better, and we can worry about things then, okay?" He looked down at her face, where she nodded.
Though Viola still had her doubts, Silver was a pack that held firmly to its old beliefs despite being the most advanced. They valued preserving their history and traditions, even though there had always been a possibility that biology could change. However, nothing had changed in centuries. Every Luna before her had given birth to twin boys first, followed by other children. She was the first to give birth to twin girls, and she had no idea what consequences that might bring.
Her mind went to the baby boy, and she wondered what he looked like. Was he doing fine? She shifted and looked up at Sebastian’s face.
"I really want to see him now, can you ask Gilbert right now? I feel restless that he is away while we are here, please." She pleaded.
Sebastian, who had never been able to deny his wife anything, nodded and reached out to Gilbert through the mindlink, and they were given permission to come over.
"Let’s put them to sleep first," Sebastian said as he carefully carried the first baby into the crib and then took the one in Viola’s arms, extracting her from the breast she was still sucking on in her sleep. Immediately her eyes flew open and her lips puckered as though she was about to cry.
"I think we’ve got ourselves one troublesome little girl here," Sebastian murmured as his daughter began to whimper. Unlike the first one, it took a while for her to quiet down and finally fall asleep.
After he put her in the crib, Sebastian reached out and helped his wife arrange her gown before he made her wear the coat he had draped on the couch. Then he bent down and carried her in his arms, and she asked him, "Who will stay with the babies in here?"
"We won’t take long, I have my men guarding outside the door of your room and his room."
When they left the room and stepped out of the VIP section, Viola was wondering how their son was holding on when they were stopped by Sebastian’s grandmother, his step-aunts, and his brother, who were coming down the long glass-walled corridor, calling,
"Stop right there, boy!" Eleanor called to her grandson, who stopped to look at her with his wife in his arms.
Viola noticed that Eleanor looked displeased and wiggled for Sebastian to put her down so she could greet the woman, but he didn’t release her. He kept his face passive, and the warmth he had held inside her room earlier was nowhere on it as he spoke to his grandma, who had come to stand where they were.
"I thought you all had returned to the High Tower? Why are you still here?" He asked, letting his eyes go to his step-aunts, whom he wanted to be the last to know about his daughters right now, and who he knew hadn’t stayed because they cared about his wife but to hear why the news wasn’t announced yet.
"Do you hear yourself right now, Sebastian? I was worried sick about what had happened, and you think I will return without seeing my great-grandchildren? Are you trying to keep them away from me the way you kept your sister away from me?" Eleanor asked, her eyes going to Viola, who was being carried, and she sighed in relief upon seeing that at least the mother was healthy and fine.
Viola felt guilty and answered before Sebastian could give a rude remark to the elderly she-wolf. "We are sorry, Abuela. You will get to see them once we return home, but I think it’s best you go and rest at home right now."
Eleanor looked hurt, because she had thought Viola would encourage her husband not to hide the babies, but it seemed they were in this together. "Oh, is there something wrong with them?" She asked quietly.
"They are fine, they’re just resting, and I need to see the doctor. Seb is taking me to him. Hello, Aunt Becky, Beth." Viola greeted the two, who grumbled their replies. Her eyes then fell on her brother-in-law. "Alex." She gave him a nod, trying to act nonchalant and hide her worry about their third child. It wasn’t that she didn’t trust Alex, but if he was going to be told about the baby, she didn’t want it happening in front of their aunts, whom she hoped would leave Silver soon.
"You can all return home. Alex, take them home," Sebastian told them, and Eleanor narrowed her eyes, but she nodded reluctantly, unable to help thinking that something was off and she wasn’t being told.
Sebastian didn’t wait to be asked more questions. He turned and walked away with his wife, and Alex, who had been asked to take them home, said to his grandmother, "You should wait for me by the car, Abuela, I need to have a word with him."
Alex went after them, leaving the three waiting in the corridor, and the moment Sebastian was out of earshot, Becky turned to their mother.
"Now tell me that isn’t fishy as hell, ma. Why the hell would they hide the babies when the moment a Luna gives birth it is announced publicly? Did they die, after all, since she gave birth too early?" Becky wondered aloud to Eleanor as she looked at where Sebastian had disappeared to. He had no reason to hide those babies, not unless the Mooncreek curse had fallen on them and made things go south, thought Becky.
"You should demand to see them, Ma," Beth added, displeased by the way the Luna had spoken to them and seemed to look down her nose at them. Who did she think she was? If Sebastian had kept them involved in his life, they would have been the ones to choose a mate for him, and none of this disrespect would be happening now.
"You heard the boy, let’s return to the High Tower. There’s no point in lingering here when he won’t allow us to see the babies yet. They must be premature and in need of care." Eleanor decided, as she couldn’t help noticing the direction they were going and the fact that after Viola’s delivery a box had been wheeled out of the room.
The last thing she needed was for these two to stay behind and do something unhinged, so it was best she took them away.
"But ma—"
"Let’s go. I’m hungry and tired. And don’t you two dare come back here behind my back."
She turned around, expecting them to follow, and they did. However, Becky cast a curious glance towards the VIP rooms, her eyes lingering on the section. What were they trying to hide in there?
