First Immortal of the Sword
Chapter 3056 - Throwing Medicine at a Dead Horse
A treasure ship flew beneath the dome of heaven. The atmosphere on board was heavy and sullen.
Yun Rong sat at the tail end of the ship, lost in thought. She was just a small fry, so she was unworthy of participating in Senior Mo Hanyi and Ninth Elder Yan Beigu’s conversation.
Still, she could sense Yan Beigu’s heavy heart and grave concern; there was no disguising it.
In stark contrast, Senior Mo Hanyi was as calm and composed as ever. It seemed the sky could crumble around him and he wouldn’t so much as furrow his brow.
Yun Rong couldn’t help but admire him. When can I achieve such an unflappable heart? Even if I only managed ten percent of his composure, it would bring me endless benefits.
“What happened?” When Su Yi saw Yan Beigu sink into thought, he took it upon himself to break the silence.
Yan Beigu reacted as if awakening from a dream, jolting out of his reverie.
“The top factions of the four seas are visiting our sect under the leadership of Feng Ruhuo of the Profound Phoenixes,” Yan Beigu said gravely. “According to our leader, they’ve... come with ill intentions!”
Su Yi couldn’t help but be surprised. Each of the hegemons of the four seas had the foundations to clash with Heavenly Sovereign factions. Now, they’d joined forces and gone to Crimson Kite Daoist Court. Just what were they after?
Su Yi quickly reached an answer. They’re obviously after information about the Eternal Throne in the Sea of Fate.
And indeed, Crimson Court Daoist Court had information in the form of a map. Their founder, Fei Yunzi, had acquired it in the Sea of Fate.
The Sea of Fate was incomparably taboo and vast beyond measure. It contained endless, unforeseeable perils.
Having a map made it far safer. More importantly, the map was rumored to include the location of the lost Eternal Throne!
Fei Yunzi contacted Heavenly Sovereign Ku Xuan as soon as he acquired it. He hoped to join forces to explore the Sea of Fate.
In light of the Taiwu Sect’s predicament, Heavenly Sovereign Ku Xuan refused, and Fei Yunzi left on his own, only to run into grave peril.
Said peril involved the Profound Phoenixes.
When Fei Yunzi acquired the map, he clashed with a Profound Phoenix Elder.
Although the elder lost, and although Fei Yunzi left with the map, the Profound Phoenixes refused to give up. They sent someone to Crimson Kite Daoist Court to demand that Fei Yunzi give the map up. They threatened war on the entire sect if he refused.
The Profound Phoenixes were the hegemons of the Southern Sea. Fei Yunzi dared not disregard their threats, so he sent another message to Heavenly Sovereign Ku Xuan asking for help.
That was why Heavenly Sovereign Ku Xuan went to the Southern Sea.
Sect Leader Wu Zhe had told Su Yi about this when he visited the Taiwu Sect. It was just that then, Su Yi didn’t know that all of this was over a map.
When Heavenly Sovereign Ku Xuan arrived in person, he naturally managed to quell the Profound Phoenixes’ bluster.
Then, he and Fei Yunzi set off for the Sea of Fate. The two vanished soon afterward. Now, two months had passed since anyone had last heard from them.
According to the news Yan Beigu had just received, the Profound Phoenixes were unwilling to give up, and they’d returned to demand information once more!
Moreover, they’d come prepared. This time, they’d joined forces with the leading factions of the other seas.
There was no doubt about it. Without Fei Yunzi and Heavenly Sovereign Ku Xuan to protect them, these unwelcome guests were a dire threat to Crimson Kite Daoist Court.
That was why Yan Beigu was so tense.
He took a deep breath, then continued. “According to the message from our leader, the representatives of the four top factions are accompanied by two... River Ancestors!
Yan Beigu’s expression was as solemn as could be.
River Ancestors were supreme experts of the River of Destiny, existences comparable to the Heavenly Sovereigns of the Eternal Heavens Domain!
They had a similar advantage in the Southern Sea. Here, they could fight Heavenly Sovereigns on even footing!
Now, two River Ancestors had accompanied representatives of the top factions of the Four Seas to Crimson Kite Daoist Court. It was easy to imagine how terrifying this lineup was.
A lineup like that would have been trouble even if Fei Yunzi and Heavenly Sovereign Ku Xuan had been there!
But when Su Yi heard the news, he just laughed. “And here I thought this was a big deal. So, it’s just a group with a couple of River Ancestors.
‘Just’ a couple of River Ancestors? ‘Just’? Yan Beigu almost suspected he was hearing things. Who in the Southern Sea would dare to disregard River Ancestors? Not even a Heavenly Sovereign would dare dismiss them so flippantly!
But Su Yi just took a sip of wine and said, “This actually works out. It’s the perfect opportunity to shake the mountain and intimidate all would-be tigers!”
Yan Beigu was completely befuddled. “What do you mean?”
Instead of answering the question, Su Yi just said, “If convenient, I’ll have to trouble you to send word to your sect leader. Tell him to stall for time no matter what. If they can stall until I arrive, I’ll solve the problem.”
Yan Beigu finally understood. He couldn’t help but gasp. “You... aren’t kidding, are you?”
He knew Su Yi was strong, and if not for the two River Ancestors, he’d have immediately thanked Su Yi profusely.
But Yan Beigu couldn’t overlook the two River Ancestors, so he had little confidence in Su Yi’s promise.
“Do I look like I’m joking?” Su Yi raised an eyebrow.
Yan Beigu hurriedly shook his head. “Please don’t take offense. I’ll contact the sect leader immediately!”
He then gnashed his teeth and responded. If they were doomed anyway, why not risk it? Throwing medicine at a dead horse might not save it, but it sure wouldn’t get any deader.
Su Yi was someone who’d clashed with Heavenly Sovereigns before. His help was far better than nothing!
Su Yi could see through Yan Beigu’s thoughts at a glance, but he couldn’t be bothered to explain.
If only for Ku Xuan’s sake, he wouldn’t remain a bystander. That aside, he had other plans.
Everyone in the Southern Sea’s cultivation world was talking about his alliance with Crimson Kite Daoist Court. There was no hiding it.
That meant that Crimson Kite Daoist Court was in grave danger.
Su Yi had only just been worried about how best to resolve it. Now, he had a solution. He’d kill the chicken to intimidate the monkeys!
If he took down the experts of the supreme factions of the Four Seas, he’d intimidate the Southern Sea’s entire cultivation world!
He was confident that after this, even Heavenly Sovereign E would carefully weigh the consequences of provoking him any further!
......
Goldstone Island.
This was one of the most blessed grounds for cultivation in the entire Southern Sea, as well as the ancestral ground of Crimson Kite Daoist Court.
Sect Leader Lu Mu sat in the center of a grand hall, his expression overcast. Other Crimson Kite Daoist Court higher-ups sat on the left side of the room, while experts of the leading factions of each of the Four Seas sat to the right.
There were only four of them. Their leader was Elder Feng Ruhuo of the Profound Phoenixes. He was accompanied by the Blackmoon Dragon King of the Eastern Sea’s Soaring Dragon Mountain, as well as Ying Tian, the mightiest of the Northern Sea’s Nine-Headed Serpents, and Sage King Qing Jue of the Western Sea’s Divine Stratagems Court.
All of them were Piercing Illusions Stage Heavenly Monarchs, old monsters who’d lived for countless years.
All of them were famous in their respective regions, but it wasn’t the four of them who put the most pressure on Crimson Kite Daoist Court, but rather the two River Ancestors accompanying them.
The two River Ancestors weren’t at the meeting. They were fishing on a boat just three thousand miles away.
But their presence was an unspoken threat. If negotiations went poorly, the two of them could attack Crimson Kite Daoist Court at any moment!
“Daoist Brother Lu, it doesn’t matter that your honorable founder and Heavenly Sovereign Ku Xuan aren’t here. Even if they were here, there’s no way they’d be willing to risk souring our relationship with Crimson Kite Daoist Court,” said Elder Feng Ruhuo.
He was thin, clean-shaven, and youthful-looking. His companions looked to him for leadership.
“Daoist Brother Lu, as I’m sure you’re aware, that map is no precious treasure, and even if it were, we just want to make a copy,” Feng Ruhuo said leisurely. “Agree, and everything is up for discussion. Refuse, and...”
Feng Ruhuo laughed, then scanned the group of Crimson Kite Daoist Court experts and said leisurely, “Well, don’t say I didn’t give Crimson Kite Daoist Court a chance!”
Sect Leader Lu Mu and the others’ expressions darkened. Outsiders had come right to their door to threaten and extort them. Of course they were unhappy!
The part that really made them anxious was that if they had a falling out, given their sect’s current strength, they... really wouldn’t be able to bear the consequences!
Sect Leader Lu Mu took a deep breath, then opened his mouth to speak, only for Feng Ruhuo to smile and interrupt him. “Please, no more delays. The two River Ancestors are waiting, you know, and time is precious. Whether you agree or not, please give us a straightforward answer!”
His voice echoed throughout the hall. The atmosphere was instantly tense. All eyes converged on Lu Mu.
Everyone knew that his response would decide the fate of Crimson Kite Daoist Court!
Lu Mu sat there, expression shifting and uncertain. He was inwardly as frustrated as could be, and indeed, who could have taken such humiliation and threats calmly?
But he also knew that things were different now. Crimson Kite Daoist Court was in no way capable of contending with the ruling factions of the Four Seas.
It would have been difficult even with their founder and Heavenly Sovereign Ku Xuan present!
In light of this cruel reality, no matter how angry Lu Mu was, he had no choice but to endure. He had to consider the bigger picture!
After a while, he sighed. No matter how precious the map was, it was ultimately just an external treasure. Treasures could be regained, but if the sect was destroyed, everything was over.
In the end, Lu Mu decided to give up the map to preserve the sect.
But just as he was about to do so, he sensed something, and he pulled a talisman out of his sleeve. It contained Yan Beigu’s newest message.
When he saw it, Lu Mu’s eyes narrowed. He sat there in a daze, suddenly conflicted again.
The others noticed his reaction. It seems there’s something strange about the message he just received. Whatever it is, it’s making him hesitate.
Feng Ruhuo furrowed his brow, a bit impatient. He snorted coldly and said, “Daoist Brother Lu, hurry up and decide!”
