First Immortal of the Sword
Chapter 3058 - The Pride of a Sword Cultivator
That streak of light was utterly dazzling. It tore through the sky with extreme force and momentum, instantly becoming the center of attention.
River Ancestor Luo Yu’s gaze was playful. “Oh? Have you invited helpers? I’ll just have to see who could possibly be bold enough to meddle in our affairs here.”
River Ancestor Hu Chan’s spirits soared. “This is for the best. I hope they’re tough, and that I can feast on flesh and blood!”
Feng Ruhuo and the other unparalleled Heavenly Monarchs exchanged glances. They couldn’t help but chuckle. Given the circumstances, it wouldn’t make a difference even if Heavenly Sovereign Ku Xuan himself showed up. No reinforcements could possibly change anything!
The higher-ups of Crimson Kite Daoist Court watched in bewilderment. All of them instinctively looked to the sect leader.
Sect Leader Lu Mu’s eyes lit up, a rare hint of anticipation on his face.
The onlookers’ hearts stirred. Don’t tell me that these people are the ‘opportunity’ the sect leader told us about?
As the crowd pondered, a boom rang out. The surrounding seas churned, waves splashing the air.
That figure streaked toward them from afar. As the light and flame dissipated, a tall, upright figure came into view, blue robes swaying around him.
This was none other than Su Yi.
Time had been short. With just one day to rush to Crimson Kite Daoist Court’s aid, Su Yi chose to travel alone, flying with all his might, never resting even for a moment.
Now that he’d arrived and confirmed that the worst had not yet come to pass, he couldn’t help but sigh in relief.
When he arrived, something rumbled and boomed over the horizon, and a long rift tore open in the air. This was the rift Su Yi had left in his wake as he rushed over.
It was easy to imagine how fast he’d been moving.
All eyes converged on Su Yi.
“Sword cultivator Su Yi greets you.” Su Yi ignored everyone present, walked up to Sect Leader Lu Mu, and bowed in greeting.
Su Yi? The crowd stirred at the sound of his name. In the present-day Eternal Heavens Domain, Su Yi was an utterly dazzling legend. Who hadn’t heard of him?
Of late, practically everyone in the Southern Sea was talking about his battles in the Divine Wandering Continent and Blackwater Celestial Capital!
And Su Yi was the star of both of these unparalleled struggles!
“Su Yi?” River Ancestor Luo Yu’s tawny eyes lit up. He gently tapped his golden crown and exclaimed, “I’ve heard of you. You’re the reincarnation of Jiang Wuchen, the founder of the Heart-Tempering Sword House, a young sword cultivator supposedly capable of fighting Heavenly Sovereigns!”
His voice was full of curiosity, and as he spoke, he looked Su Yi up and down as if appraising a rare and precious treasure.
“So, you’re Su Yi.” River Ancestor Hu Chan grinned. “Excellent. Truly excellent. I wouldn’t have guessed we’d reel in such a big fish this time.”
Feng Ruhuo, the Blackmoon Dragon King, and the others all looked at Su Yi with surprise and confusion. They naturally knew of Su Yi’s unparalleled accomplishments, and they knew that if they were alone, they’d have fled at the sight of him. He was, after all, capable of sweeping through Heavenly Monarchs with ease.
He was now the true Greatest of the Unthroned!
But Su Yi’s decision to come here now just seemed... stupid!
There were two River Ancestors, and here, River Ancestors were effectively no different from Heavenly Sovereigns. Given the circumstances, who could possibly have been stupid enough to get involved?
Sect Leader Lu Mu forcefully suppressed his excitement and cupped his fists. “Fellow Daoist Su, everyone in Crimson Kite Daoist Court is deeply grateful that you’d come here personally in our time of need. However...”
He let out a long sigh. “Out of consideration for your safety, and for the safety of everyone in Crimson Kite Daoist Court, I’d like to ask you not to intervene.”
He was naturally delighted that Su Yi had come to their aid. After all, how many would dare to help them despite knowing full well that they were threatened by two River Ancestors?
Yet here Su Yi was!
This dutiful, valiant act moved Lu Mu deeply.
But at the same time, he didn’t let his emotions overcome his rationality. He didn’t want this to implicate Su Yi. Thus, he’d decided to give up the map to resolve the crisis at hand.
Feng Ruhuo and the others couldn’t help but laugh coldly. There’s no denying it; Lu Mu really is worthy of leading his sect. He knows that Su Yi couldn’t possibly resolve this situation on his own.
The lights in the Crimson Kite Daoist Court experts’ eyes dimmed. They thought the same as their leader. By himself... there was no way Su Yi could change anything.
But River Ancestor Hu Chan seemed displeased. “What a fucking disappointment! Su Yi came all this way. Could that have been easy? But look at you. You aren’t even letting him try to help you! What an affront to his dignity!”
He grinned at Su Yi, his chubby face full of warmth and enthusiasm. “My little friend, I can see that you have the pride and bearing of a sword cultivator. There’s no way you’ll shrink back in the face of battle, right?”
He gulped and licked his lips as if beside himself with hunger.
Su Yi just smiled and said to Lu Mu, “I appreciate your good intentions, but I’d like to ask you to just stand back and watch. You’ll soon see for yourselves whether or not I’m capable of resolving this!”
River Ancestor Hu Chan clapped and applauded. “Excellent! Seeing you now, it’s obvious that you really live up to your reputation!”
River Ancestor Luo Yu furrowed his brow. “Su Yi, are you sure you want to fight us by yourself?”
Su Yi saw through River Ancestor Luo Yu at a glance. “Rest assured. I’m plenty to deal with just two River Ancestors. There’s no one else coming; there’s simply no need.”
These light, airy words echoed throughout the vicinity, leaving all who heard them flabbergasted and overcome with disbelief.
“Beautifully stated! I’m truly eager to see you in action!” said River Ancestor Hu Chan, laughing so hard his fat flesh jiggled. He was beside himself with mirth, as if he’d just heard a joke as big as the heavens themselves.
“Does that mean that Heavenly Sovereign Qingyi won’t get involved?” said River Ancestor Luo Yu, his eyes flashing.
Heavenly Sovereign Qingyi! The others were instantly solemn.
Back in the Divine Wandering Continent, Heavenly Sovereign Qingyi joined forces with Su Yi to fight Heavenly Sovereign Wen. Together, they chased him all the way back to Limitless Palace. This incident had sent a wave of uproar sweeping across the Eternal Heavens Domain.
It was only after this battle that everyone realized that the long-vanished Heavenly Sovereign Qingyi stood behind Su Yi!
There was no doubt about it. River Ancestor Luo Yu was worried that Heavenly Sovereign Qingyi would show up and attack out of nowhere.
The idea filled the experts of Crimson Kite Daoist Court with hope. If Heavenly Sovereign Qingyi helps Su Yi, we might really have a shot at turning this situation around!
But against all expectations, Su Yi shook his head. “I said it already: I’m enough to handle you two.”
Here, he seemed worried that the two River Ancestors wouldn’t believe him, so he added, “If I lie, may my whole family drop dead!”
No one knew what to say to that.
The corners of River Ancestor Luo Yu’s lips twitched. He laughed, “Actually, even if Heavenly Sovereign Qingyi showed up, it wouldn’t change anything, but fine. If you insist on playing the hero, I don’t mind giving you a chance to throw your life away.”
He pointed to himself, then to River Ancestor Hu Chan. “Go on. Choose one of us to fight. I promise you a fair one-on-one duel!”
The atmosphere was instantly tense, stifled, and oppressive. Everyone in Crimson Kite Daoist Court was fraught with worry.
But none of them tried to dissuade Su Yi any further. It wasn’t exactly that they trusted him, but that it had occurred to him that he wouldn’t have come all this way if he weren’t prepared.
Perhaps Heavenly Sovereign Qingyi really was his hidden trump card!
“My little friend, a true, proud sword cultivator would surely choose me!” said River Ancestor Hu Chan, plastering what he thought was a benevolent smile on his face. “You’re welcome to ask around. Everyone knows that the enemies I kill die with little pain. Moreover, they’re ‘delivered’ within the temple of my body!”
The provocation was blatant. Moreover, it was obvious to everyone that River Ancestor Hu Chan was excited, eager, and barely able to restrain his hunger.
The sight sent a chill through the hearts of even his allies, Feng Ruhuo and the other old monsters. All of them were ill at ease.
They’d naturally heard about River Ancestor Hu Chan. They knew how terrifying and bloodthirsty he was, and how he delighted in eating his foes!
He even carried a cookbook with him. It was full of various cooking methods he’d devised and perfected over the years. Before killing his enemies, he’d always take his time to select the recipe he’d cook their bodies with.
This habit was undoubtedly brutal and perverse.
“Deliverance within the temple of your body, huh?” Su Yi turned to look at him. “Truly?”
River Ancestor Hu Chan flipped his palm, and his cookbook floated into the air. He smiled broadly, eyes narrowing into slits. “There are lots of ways I could deliver you. I could steam you, sear you, roast you, fry you... whatever you like! I’m sure you’ll be satisfied!”
Su Yi laughed. “So you’re a chef! That’s rather interesting.”
Everyone was at a loss for words, their expressions strange. Even if you’d hit them over the head, they would never have guessed that he’d call this man-eating monster a chef.
River Ancestor Hu Chan burst into laughter. “You’ve got good eyes, my young friend. Indeed, before I proved my Dao, I worked in the kitchens, preparing vegetarian meals for the monks of a temple. I worked there for a full one hundred years. Only then did I receive a legacy of the Grand Dao, attain enlightenment, and begin my path of cultivation!”
He couldn’t help but be wistful. “Later, I thanked the monks of the temple by cooking them into a sumptuous banquet and sending them to my Temple of Viscera for deliverance. I trust that any of them watching from the next world are deeply grateful!”
The crowd fell silent. Chills coursed through their hearts.
Su Yi said directly, “I’ll fight you, then!”
River Ancestor Hu Chan beamed. “Wonderful, wonderful! You’re a lucky man indeed, my young friend!”
“Out of the way, all of you. Give them space to fight.” River Ancestor Luo Yu waved, then led the others further away.
“Fellow Daoists, you’d best watch from within the sect,” ordered Su Yi.
Sect Leader Lu Mu made no further attempts to dissuade him, nor did he object to this suggestion. He just led the others away.
In a flash, Su Yi and River Ancestor Hu Chan were the only ones remaining outside Goldstone Island.
An oppressive, murderous atmosphere spread throughout heaven and earth.
