First Immortal of the Sword
Chapter 3073 - The Red Lotus Disaster
The other Heavenly Sovereigns glanced strangely at River Ancestor Luo Yu’s avatar.
They remembered the decrepit Sovereign Corpse they’d encountered on their way here. This was the Sea of Fate, the Sovereign Corpses’ territory. Here, even Heavenly Sovereigns like them would have no choice but to flee from a Sovereign Corpse.
They couldn’t fight back at all, as once the Sovereign Corpses submerged themselves in the water, they were impossible to target.
The reverse wasn’t true; the Sovereign Corpses could still attack freely. The combination made them extraordinarily thorny opponents.
But River Ancestor Luo Yu just smiled. “I’m afraid I’ll have to disappoint you. His Excellency is on his way here, and everything is proceeding smoothly.”
Everything is proceeding smoothly? The Heavenly Sovereigns raised their brows. Did Su Yi somehow overcome the Sovereign Corpse, or did the Sovereign Corpse just let him through unimpeded?
But before they could ask questions, River Ancestor Luo Yu continued, “His Excellency says that Heavenly Sovereign E should wait here alone. The others can continue toward the Blood Lotus Forbidden Domain.
‘His Excellency’ is issuing commands again!?
This familiar scene irked the Heavenly Sovereigns, making their expressions darken.
“What right does he have to order us around?” Heavenly Sovereign Wen said with a cold glare.
River Ancestor Luo Yu smiled. “You can choose not to listen, but His Excellency can choose not to come.”
“You...” Heavenly Sovereign Ling’s eyes flashed with murderous light. He barely resisted the urge to attack.
River Ancestor Luo Yu wasn’t the least bit afraid. He laughed, “You’ve already come all this way. If you reject His Excellency’s suggestion, I’m afraid your plans will fall apart at the last step. I trust you don’t want to see that happen, right?”
The Heavenly Sovereigns’ expressions darkened, their expressions shifting erratically.
In the end, Heavenly Sovereign E reached a decision. “Everyone, you go on ahead. I’ll wait here.”
The other Heavenly Sovereigns felt stifled, but this was ultimately an acceptable outcome, so they promptly continued on their way. Soon, they’d arrived atop the lotus platform.
The platform rumbled, then lit up. A dreamlike, flowing rain of the light of the Grand Dao gathered into a mysterious portal.
When the Heavenly Sovereigns had all passed through it, the mysterious portal vanished.
River Ancestor Luo Yu watched them disappear. He felt considerably calmer. At the very least, the portal itself doesn’t have any kind of traps.
“Tell Su Yi that if he doesn’t show up within the hour, Ol’ Ku Xuan will die an unsightly death!” Heavenly Sovereign E said coldly.
Su Yi had been leading him around by the nose since Shattered Star City. By now, his accumulated murderous intent was on the brink of eruption. He’d run out of patience!
River Ancestor Luo Yu smiled. “There’s no need for you to command me. I’ve already sent word to His Excellency.”
Heavenly Sovereign E snorted coldly, then said no more on the matter.
River Ancestor Luo Yu laughed. “I don’t know what you’re up to, but I can say with certainty that any plan you would endure so much in silence for is sure to be extraordinary!”
Heavenly Sovereign E laughed coldly and disregarded him.
River Ancestor Luo Yu disregarded him in turn and continued, “If this really turns into a fight, I naturally wouldn’t mind risking death for His Excellency. Moreover... I’ll aim to bring you down with me!”
His sheer composure and incontrovertible tone made Heavenly Sovereign E frown.
But then, he let out a burst of cold, disdainful laughter. “Mutual destruction, huh? Let’s see if you even get the chance! This isn’t the River of Destiny, and the Sea of Fate is different from the rest of the Southern Sea. I urge you not to overestimate yourself!”
River Ancestor Luo Yu’s gaze focused. He’d said all that sincerely, but it was also a test. Now, his probing had yielded a few results.
He could now say with confidence that whatever was waiting for them in the Blood Lotus Forbidden Domain was enough that Heavenly Sovereign E was completely assured of his victory. He wouldn’t have dared treat a River Ancestor with such disdain otherwise.
It seems that some powerful existence is watching over the Blood Lotus Forbidden Domain in addition to the Heavenly Sovereigns, thought River Ancestor Luo Yu.
Heavenly Sovereign E’s gaze was cold and indifferent. He disregarded River Ancestor Luo Yu, but he was clearly aware that River Ancestor Luo Yu was probing him.
That only made River Ancestor Luo Yu’s heart all the heavier.
Time slipped by. Soon, a little boat appeared over the horizon and flew toward them.
Heavenly Sovereign E whirled around and gazed into the distance, a cold smile on his lips. These were none other than Su Yi and the two River Ancestors.
“So, Su Yi, you finally dare to show yourself!” Heavenly Sovereign E struck furiously, swinging ruthlessly at the nearby River Ancestor Luo Yu. It seemed he’d finally found an outlet for his frustrations.
But River Ancestor Luo Yu’s avatar seemed to have anticipated this. He dodged, one step ahead, avoiding the blow completely.
He burst into laughter. “You’re a lofty Heavenly Sovereign, yet you lose your cool so easily. That’s no good!”
Before his voice had even finished echoing through the air, his avatar blurred into a beam of light and fused into his true body.
“It really is unseemly. That’s no way for a Heavenly Sovereign to do things,” River Ancestor Hu Chan said with a grin. He made no attempt to disguise his disdain.
Heavenly Sovereign E disregarded them, instead fixing his gaze on Su Yi. “Did you bring the Cauldron of Fate?”
Su Yi shook his head. “Nope.”
Heavenly Sovereign E gaped at him, then glowered, only for Su Yi to laugh. “I’m just kidding.”
Heavenly Sovereign E’s chest heaved with fury, but in the end, he just said coldly, “Play with your life all you want. Even if you get yourself killed, it doesn’t matter. But if anything happens to the Cauldron of Fate, everyone connected to you will be doomed!”
Su Yi laughed, not the least bit concerned. “Come on. Lead the way to the Blood Lotus Forbidden Domain.”
He seemed completely relaxed, and he made no effort to stall for time. On the contrary, he seemed eager to proceed.
This actually made Heavenly Sovereign E frown. Something suddenly occurred to him. “Did you encounter a Sovereign Corpse on your way here?”
Su Yi blinked, then looked at his companions. “A Sovereign Corpse? Did either of you see one?”
The River Ancestors shook their heads. “We didn’t.”
Su Yi looked back at Heavenly Sovereign E. “We didn’t see one. Do you have any other questions?”
Heavenly Sovereign E’s expression shifted erratically. Finally, he said, “I actually do have another question for you.”
Su Yi smiled. “Go ahead and ask.”
Heavenly Sovereign E frowned. “Why did you ask me to wait here alone?”
He’d guessed that Su Yi wanted to seize the opportunity to take him hostage. It’d make sense; he wouldn’t have been a match for the two River Ancestors plus Heavenly Sovereign Qingyi. But now, it seemed that wasn’t the case at all. That was what Heavenly Sovereign E found so difficult to understand.
Su Yi smiled. “You’re jumping to conclusions. I had you remain here so that you could guide us.”
Heavenly Sovereign E looked at him in disbelief. “Truly?”
Su Yi asked right back, “What would you do if we attacked together?”
Heavenly Sovereign E glared coldly, but in the end, he didn’t say anything. He just turned and headed for the lotus platform in the distance.
Su Yi followed him.
When they arrived, there were only a few dozen feet between him and Heavenly Sovereign E.
The two River Ancestors watched with unconcealed murderous intent, ready and raring to go.
Su Yi just smiled, took out a jug of wine, and had a sip.
With Heavenly Sovereign E accompanying them, they had no need to fear an ambush upon reaching the platform.
That was his true goal.
Had the other Heavenly Sovereigns stayed behind, they’d have been a threat. Conflict would have ruined their plans.
Su Yi wanted to save Heavenly Sovereign Ku Xuan, and he didn’t want unnecessary trouble.
Heavenly Sovereign E seemed to realize what Su Yi was really after, and he couldn’t help but laugh coldly.
A moment later, an ethereal rain of light condensed into a mysterious portal.
Heavenly Sovereign E was just about to go through it when Su Yi said suddenly, “Wait!”
Heavenly Sovereign E frowned. “Planning to go back on your word?”
“Let me invite Heavenly Sovereign Qingyi to join us,” Su Yi said with a laugh. He then tapped the jade medallion hanging from his waist.
A shocking rain of starlight fell as Hua Qingyi’s tall, slender frame appeared out of nowhere.
She was dressed in black, drawing attention to her snowy skin and exquisitely beautiful, youthful features.
Su Yi noticed that the wooden hairpin, White Hair, was holding her dark locks in place.
The sight of her left both River Ancestors unwittingly stunned.
Heavenly Sovereign E frowned. “Can we go now?”
Hua Qingyi spoke coldly, bluntly, and to the point. “If anything happens after we enter that hidden realm, I’ll make sure to drag you to the grave with me!”
The two River Ancestors nodded. “That goes for us, too.”
Heavenly Sovereign E’s expression darkened even further in response to these threats, but in the end, he just entered the hidden realm without a word.
Su Yi and the others followed him. Soon, all of them had vanished through the portal.
A moment later, they found themselves in a hidden realm.
This was still a stretch of dark seawater covered in dense, dark tribulation clouds. The difference was that here, red lotuses bloomed all over the water’s surface.
Each lotus was incomparably enormous, the size of a mountain. Their blood-red petals seemed as if they were condensed out of divine blood, mystical and strange.
The moment Su Yi and the others appeared, everyone but Su Yi moved.
Hua Qingyi took a step forward, a rain of starlight emanating from her palm. It condensed into a barrier around her and Su Yi.
The two River Ancestors stood around Heavenly Sovereign E and locked onto him, their auras rumbling and booming.
Heavenly Sovereign E raised his right foot and was just about to take a step forward when he sensed this and subtly lowered his foot.
Meanwhile, figures exploded out of the hearts of the nearby giant lotuses. Their ranks included familiar faces like Heavenly Sovereign Wen and Heavenly Sovereign Ling, as well as people Su Yi didn’t recognize.
There were even a few Sovereign Corpses among them!
All of them appeared at once, then charged at Su Yi and his companions with unstoppable momentum.
Boom!
Heaven and earth shook, and the sky was plunged into upheaval.
Streaks of terrifying treasure light shot into the firmament. Their destructive power was enough to make any Heavenly Sovereign’s heart shake.
All of this happened within moments of Su Yi’s arrival, so quickly that no one had any time to respond.
They’d been ambushed!
