First Immortal of the Sword
Chapter 3074 - Your Final Resting Place
When this sudden attack came hurtling toward them, the first to lose his cool wasn’t Su Yi or one of his companions, but rather, Heavenly Sovereign E.
As steady as Heavenly Sovereign E was, he couldn’t help but gasp, his expression shifting.
He bellowed, “Stop! Listen to me——!”
His voice boomed far and wide, but he was one step too late.
As the ocean rumbled around them, all manner of terrifying treasures and secret arts came crashing down on them.
Bang!
Heavenly Sovereign Qingyi’s curtain of light split and dissipated with a bang. Just as she was about to defend herself, an enormous wave rose in front of her.
The water churned, brimming with unbelievable power. Shockingly, it neutralized most of the attacks.
Only then did she realize that Su Yi had intervened. He’d gripped the Medallion of Past Karma, and he was using it to create a massive tidal wave.
This instantly alleviated most of the pressure on Hua Qingyi. She could then block the remaining attacks on her own.
Meanwhile, Heavenly Sovereign E cried out in agony. As soon as the ambush began, River Ancestor Hu Chan and River Ancestor Luo Yu attacked with incomparable decisiveness, targeting Heavenly Sovereign E from both sides. Moreover, both struck to kill, and both used abilities they typically kept in reserve.
Heavenly Sovereign E was powerful enough to sense the danger immediately. He, too, went all out.
But he wasn’t trying to kill his enemies, nor was he trying to protect himself. He just wanted to break through their encirclement!
He wanted to create distance between himself and Su Yi’s companions; the further the better—even if it meant getting injured in the process.
Who could have imagined that the moment he broke through, a seal like an endlessly brilliant sun slammed into his heart, almost making him lose control.
Even though he managed to steady himself in the end, there was no avoiding the blow to his qi and cultivation base.
Thus, he failed to break through the encirclement in time. The two River Ancestors seized the opportunity to injure him.
River Ancestor Luo Yu waved his hand, and a golden light tore open Heavenly Sovereign E’s torso, practically disemboweling him. Blood splattered the air.
River Ancestor Hu Chan was even more ruthless. He slammed his staff into Heavenly Sovereign E’s back with such force that he almost fell into the ocean. The flesh of his back tore open, and his vertebrae almost shattered. All of his organs felt the impact.
But the two River Ancestors were under attack, too, and they had no choice but to defend themselves with all their might. They could no longer divert their attention by attacking Heavenly Sovereign E.
All of this took some time to explain, but it happened in a flash the moment Su Yi and his companions arrived.
It was just too fast.
Su Yi and his companions had been on guard. They’d anticipated that they’d be ambushed after they passed through the portal.
They just hadn’t anticipated that it would be quite this sudden, fast, or overwhelming.
They weren’t just up against Heavenly Sovereigns. There were several strange and horrible Sovereign Corpses there, too, as well as several unfamiliar faces!
It was easy to imagine what might have happened if they hadn’t been on guard. This ambush would have had dire consequences.
Kaboom!
The surrounding ocean shook. Divine radiance swept forth as a torrent of destructive power shook the entire Blood Lotus Forbidden Domain.
“Stop! Hurry up and stop!” Heavenly Sovereign E shouted. He looked and felt utterly wretched. Both his heart and his body had taken heavy damage, and his condition was precarious.
Everyone involved in the ambush heard him and responded. At least, the Heavenly Sovereigns stopped without hesitation.
But the strange Sovereign Corpses seemed not to have heard anything. They were still attacking, unleashing their strange and terrifying divine abilities.
This left Heavenly Sovereign E gnashing his teeth with fury. He bellowed, “Daoist Brother Qing Shi, don’t you think it’s about time you showed yourself?”
Before his voice had even finished echoing through the air, a voice like the clear ringing of a bell said, “Please calm down, Fellow Daoist Yan.”
As his voice rang out, a mysterious rain of the light of the Grand Dao appeared, then spread over the area.
A figure in Daoist robes and a lotus crown appeared out of nowhere. He gripped a snow-white fly whisk and held a black seal aloft.
When he bellowed, those strange Sovereign Corpses receded like waters at low tide; it seemed they could not disobey his commands.
Just like that, this sudden onslaught came to a halt partway through.
Heavenly Sovereign E seized the opportunity to return to his camp. He then glowered at the seemingly youthful Daoist. “Daoist Brother Qing Shi, that wasn’t right of you!”
It would have been obvious to anyone that he was furious.
Qing Shi said apologetically, “It happened so suddenly that I couldn’t intervene in time. That said, you needn’t be upset, Fellow Daoist Yan. Now that I’m here, nothing else will happen to you.”
Heavenly Sovereign E fell silent. It had already happened. What was there to say?
Meanwhile, Su Yi’s allies clustered together, then examined their enemies.
Su Yi noticed that all of the Sovereign Corpses were quite distinctive.
There was a snowy skeleton in a blood-soaked, tattered feather coat. His head was missing, and the lower half of his body was battered beyond recognition. He gripped a broken spear.
Then there was a middle-aged Daoist, but only the top half of his body remained, and his face was so badly damaged that the white of his cheekbones was visible.
The third, a woman in a blood-red dress, was particularly horrifying. Her features were exquisitely beautiful, but her flesh had been split into countless pieces, all of them wriggling like worms as they tried and failed to piece her back together.
There were three other Sovereign Corpses, but all of them were in terrible shape, rotten beyond recognition or else reduced to mere skeletons.
But there was no denying that their auras were terrifying. They weren’t any weaker than the Heavenly Sovereigns!
More than the Sovereign Corpses, it was the other unfamiliar faces in the crowd that really drew Su Yi’s attention. There were eight in total, a mix of men and women, all of them in identical Daoist robes that suggested a common sect of origin.
The only difference was their headgear: crowns shaped like fish tails, or lotuses, or hibiscuses...
All of them had starkly different auras from the Heavenly Sovereigns, but as unbelievable as it seemed, they weren’t any weaker!
All of them clustered around the man they called Qing Shi, making his extraordinary status all the more obvious.
When Su Yi saw this, he instantly guessed who these people were. These were members of Three Purities Temple!
Three Purities Temple was a progenitor-level faction of the Far Shore of Destiny, the greatest Daoist Orthodoxy around. They were apparently divided into three sects: the Greater Purity Sect, the Supreme Purity Sect, and the Jade Purity Sect.
You could tell which sect disciples belonged to by their robes and headgear.
One look at his lotus crown, and it was obvious that Qing Shi was from the Greater Purity Sect!
This reminded Su Yi of someone he’d encountered long ago, back in the God Domain.
Qing Li!
Before Su Yi could give the matter any further thought, Qing Shi said, “Su Yi, this lofty one has been waiting for you for a long time now.”
The atmosphere was stifled and murderous.
These powerful foes put immense pressure on Hua Qingyi and the River Ancestors, but Su Yi acted like this had nothing to do with him. First, he took a moment to look the Blood Lotus Forbidden Domain up and down. Then, he said, “According to the rules set by the Mountain of the Secluded Ones after the Struggle for Heavenly Fate, you are not...”
But Qing Shi laughed and interrupted him before he could finish. “We’re from the Lower Court of Three Purities Temple, which means we’re cultivators of the River of Destiny. We can intervene in worldly affairs without breaking the rules.
Su Yi’s eyebrows rose. He indeed knew of the Lower Court of Three Purities Temple. They were Three Purities Temple’s base in the River of Destiny.
That was why Qing Shi and his followers were so fearless.
“Three Purities Temple is bold enough to break the rules, but not to admit it, huh?” Hua Qingyi snorted coldly. “If you’re going to attack, just do it. There’s no need to come up with such contrived excuses. Is Three Purities Temple always this shameless?”
Lower Court or not, they were obviously part of Three Purities Temple. All that talk of being “cultivators of the River of Destiny” was blatant nonsense.
“Impudent!” A tall, powerfully built Daoist roared, “How dare you insult our sect! Take care that your words don’t come back to bite you!”
Hua Qingyi laughed derisively. “I’ll insult you all I like. What are you going to do about it? You’re shameless, and why shouldn’t I say it? If the founders of Three Purities Temple saw your wretched behavior, they’d spin so hard in their graves that their coffins wouldn’t be able to contain them!”
The experts of the Lower Court were all visibly enraged, but before they could argue, Qing Shi waved for silence.
He then disregarded Hua Qingyi and looked at Su Yi. “To be blunt, no matter what happens in the Blood Lotus Forbidden Domain, it won’t disturb the Secluded Ones.”
He grinned. “Even if they find out about it later, it won’t matter. They won’t risk a falling out with Three Purities Temple over this.”
He spoke with the utmost confidence.
“Oh,” said Su Yi. It seemed he couldn’t be bothered to argue. Instead, he got straight to the point. “Where is Heavenly Sovereign Ku Xuan?”
Qing Shi pointed into the distance.
The hidden realm was full of enormous, blood-red lotuses, but this one was bigger than all the others, as eye-catching as a crane among chickens.
This was the lotus Qing Shi pointed to.
He said casually, “They’re trapped inside the Past Karma Blood Lotus, and they can no longer sense anything that happens in the outside world. Moreover, every moment trapped inside is sheer torment. The power of Past Karma is corroding their hearts and souls. It’s agonizing enough to make even Heavenly Sovereigns long for death.”
He paused, then looked at Su Yi once more. “Fortunately, you didn’t take too long. Had you come much later, you might never have seen Ku Xuan and Fei Yunzi again.”
Su Yi said calmly, “Did you do this?”
Qing Shi shook his head. “I encountered them in the Sea of Fate. I wanted to chat, but they feared that I had ulterior motives, and they fled into the Blood Lotus Forbidden Domain, straight into the Past Karma Blood Lotus, heedless of the danger.”
He sighed. “My intentions were pure, but they were like moonlight shining down on a ditch—that is, a complete waste. They brought their misfortune on themselves.”
Many of the others laughed, their gazes playful.
Su Yi ignored them. He finally understood why he hadn’t been able to contact Heavenly Sovereign Ku Xuan.
He’d been trapped in the Past Karma Blood Lotus this entire time, unable to sense the outside world!
Qing Shi’s expression was suddenly solemn, his tone grave. “I swear on the name of Three Purities Temple that so long as you give us the Cauldron of Fate, you’ll have an opportunity to save both Ku Xuan and Fei Yunzi. We’ll let you leave this place alive, too!”
“But if you refuse...” He paused, then gestured to the seawater. “Then this will be your final resting place!”
Every word boomed through the air, echoing far and wide.
