First Immortal of the Sword
Chapter 3146 - An Unforeseeable Development
At this point of the battle, those capable of seeing the battle’s details were all convinced of something—Su Yi really was strong enough to overwhelm Heavenly Sovereigns!
He was just one person, and he was up against seven Heavenly Sovereigns, yet he was nonetheless single-handedly suppressing the whole group. How could anyone argue that he wasn’t overwhelming them?
What other Heavenly Monarch had ever accomplished anything remotely like this?
The battle was not yet over, but everyone knew that Su Yi had already left an indelible, dazzling mark on the annals of the River of Destiny’s history.
This wasn’t a simple matter of fighting Heavenly Sovereigns. He was actively suppressing them, and in doing so, breaking what had always been an ironclad rule and setting a unique, unprecedented record!
“Activate!” Heavenly Sovereign Wuxu’s eyes bulged as he poured his strength into the Lightning Court Seal, manifesting a city of interweaving electricity.
The towering city gave rise to lightning gods, lightning spirits, and other similarly dazzling entities. All of them were swathed in stingingly bright, shockingly destructive electricity, and all of them descended ruthlessly upon Su Yi.
Practically simultaneously, the other Heavenly Sovereigns launched their killer attacks. Their combined force was such that the firmament seemed on the verge of imminent collapse.
Su Yi swung his sword and neutralized their attacks one by one. Where his sword pointed, there was nothing it couldn’t cut.
The Heavenly Sovereigns had only just surrounded him again, but when that unstoppable sword force swept forth, their encirclement shattered once more.
Several of the Heavenly Sovereigns were injured, their hair disheveled. They looked utterly wretched.
By this point, even they had to admit that Su Yi was far stronger than any of them had anticipated!
Had they been fighting him one-on-one, they’d have been defeated by now!
This reality was difficult for them to accept. The sword cultivator most of them had never taken for a serious threat was now overpowering seven of them at once!
Who could have anticipated such a thing previously?
“Everyone, we cannot hesitate. How could there possibly be any place left for us in this world if he lives?” roared Heavenly Sovereign E. “I’ll say it again: either he dies, or we’re doomed!”
They’d come because the possibility of the Heart-Tempering Sword House gaining two Heavenly Sovereigns worried them. They’d had no choice but to come to stop that from happening.
Now, after seeing Su Yi’s strength firsthand, they realized something else entirely. If they didn’t kill Su Yi today, there’d be no place left for them in the Eternal Heavens Domain!
If they retreated, they might survive today, but where could they run to? And what would become of their sects? And of their disciples, grand-disciples, and sectmates?
Who could bear the consequences of retreating?
The whole world was paying attention to this battle. Even the Mountain of the Secluded Ones was watching in secret!
Retreating would ruin their reputations, and it would do them no good. If Su Yi tried to hunt them down, who among them would escape?
That was why Heavenly Sovereign E was so determined. He wouldn’t stop until he was dead.
“Then we’ll just have to show that bastard what we’re truly capable of!” Heavenly Sovereign Wen said with seething murderous intent.
“Yes, we ought to do just that!”
“It’s time to end things once and for all!”
The other Heavenly Sovereigns’ brows furrowed. All of them looked ruthlessly determined.
Before their voices had even finished echoing through the air, they drew on everything they’d been keeping in reserve. They could no longer hold back!
Heavenly Sovereign E’s voice boomed like spring thunder. “Descend!”
A black palace lamp floated into view. A strange, blood-red shape blazed over its wick.
When the lamp shone, the turbulent skies froze in place as if encased in ice. That blood-red shape rippled outward, permeating time and space. There was no place it could not reach, no nook or cranny too small for it to enter.
The blood-red shape was quite strange. It looked soft, like floating, glowing light, but wherever it passed, the frozen skies melted like candle wax, silently breaking and collapsing.
When the blood-red shape reached Su Yi, his sword qi froze, then melted, unable to cleave through that strange redness.
“What kind of treasure is that?” Su Yi’s gaze focused. The Cauldron of Fate, Book of Destiny, and Contented Heart Scepter were all reacting to it.
But there was no time to give the matter any further thought. Su Yi dodged immediately.
Back in the Abyss of Endless Tribulations, Su Yi’s treasures reacted to Hong Ling’s Mirror of Mysteries. Now, it was happening yet again. Of course, Su Yi realized what this meant.
The black lamp was a taboo treasure, too!
But the moment Su Yi dodged, the Threelives Buddha chanted a line of sutras. “In silence and solitude, I return to truth. The fruits of my Dao return to emptiness!"
A fragmented golden punishment ruler suddenly appeared above Su Yi’s head and descended ruthlessly toward him.
Clang!!!
Su Yi swung his sword to defend himself, only to be sent flying, sword and all. His blood and qi churned madly within him.
The golden ruler was incomparably tyrannical, and it displayed unbelievable murderous power. It was indistinct, but he could see Buddhist light flowing over its surface like miniature seated Buddhas.
Boundless worlds, each a paradise, gathered in the palms of their hands!
Su Yi’s eyes narrowed. This is obviously yet another unbelievable taboo treasure.
There was no time for him to give the matter any further thought. Both the black palace lamp and the golden punishment ruler were hurtling toward him.
The other Heavenly Sovereigns were drawing their killer weapons, too.
There was a golden tripod cauldron. Five colors burbled within it, and five-colored radiance of all-encompassing destructive power poured from its mouth, like a blazing, five-colored river of stars from beyond the nine heavens, searing and intense.
The cauldron belonged to Heavenly Sovereign Changhen.
Heavenly Sovereigns Ling, Wen, Yaoguang, and Wuxu each drew treasures of their own: a painting, a bone staff, a silver short halberd, and a flying knife of green flames.
Each emanated taboo power far beyond any typical Heavenly Sovereign-level weapon. All of them had monstrous, terrifying auras.
Their arrival was like the true descent of the apocalypse. Throughout the Unfettered Continent, the Laws descended into turbulence and upheaval.
Su Yi was instantly plunged into grave peril. Even when he fought with all he had, this relentless onslaught of taboo treasures repeatedly forced him back. He looked utterly wretched.
This was the Heavenly Sovereigns’ accumulated power!
All of them had lived for countless years, experiencing the ups and downs of worldly affairs. They were like rulers gazing down at the world from on high. No one could shake their position. How could their hidden cards possibly be ordinary?
“Die!” Heavenly Sovereign E bellowed!
The other Heavenly Sovereigns naturally didn’t hold back either. All of them poured the full extent of their cultivation bases into their taboo treasures, and all of them struck to kill.
“That’s somewhat despicable of them.” Ruo Su’s brow furrowed, her gaze suddenly frosty.
At the same time, many of the Secluded Ones sighed in relief, small smiles tugging at their lips.
This moment had finally come.
Battles to the death were competitions of strength, but also of hidden trump cards.
The Heavenly Sovereigns had come in the flesh. The killer weapons they’d brought with them were naturally far from ordinary, too.
Old Lord Gouchen’s eyes flashed with cold light as he swept his gaze across the Secluded Ones. “Are you behind this?”
He could tell that many of those taboo treasures originated from progenitor-level orthodoxies of the Far Shore of Destiny!
Admittedly, they weren’t true Ancestral Origin Dao Treasures of the Path to Ancestry, but it still wouldn’t do to underestimate them. They, too, were taboo!
For example, Heavenly Sovereign E’s black palace lamp belonged to the Greater Purity lineage of Three Purities Temple. It was called the Blood Restriction Jewel Lamp.
Heavenly Sovereign Changhen’s cauldron was called the Fiveflame Dao Cauldron, and it belonged to the Panwu Family, a progenitor-level faction of the Far Shore of Destiny.
The other taboo treasures had similar origins.
There was no way that Old Lord Gouchen could fail to realize that forces of the Far Shore were supporting the Heavenly Sovereigns in this battle.
“Your Excellency Gouchen, none of those treasures are beyond the bounds of Eternity, and no experts of the Far Shore have joined the battle. This... doesn’t count as a violation of the rules,” someone explained.
Old Lord Gouchen snorted coldly. “But it was done with wicked intentions. It’s truly despicable!”
There was nothing else he could say, as this truly didn’t count as breaking the rules.
As they conversed, they watched the battle. All of them could tell that Su Yi was in grave peril!
But it was then that something no one could have anticipated happened.
Heavenly Sovereigns Ku Xuan and Qingyi were watching from the peak of Snowy Gale Mountain when a hand suddenly descended from the heavens. It was so enormous as to blanket the sky and blot out the sun. It was like the skies were falling.
Even Snowy Gale Mountain seemed tiny and insignificant compared to that massive hand.
Heavenly Sovereign Ku Xuan snorted coldly, swung his arm through the air, and threw a punch from afar. Heavenly Sovereign Qingyi, meanwhile, scooped up Lu Ye, Luo Yan, and Pu Xuan. She planned to put them safely into the world in her sleeves.
But it was then that three figures appeared out of nowhere and attacked Heavenly Sovereign Qingyi from all sides.
There were two men and one woman. All of them emanated the distinctive energy fluctuations of a Heavenly Sovereign, and when they attacked, they each used Heavenly Sovereign-level treasures.
They’d obviously been preparing this assassination attempt for a long time now. They’d waited until Su Yi was all but completely suppressed and in grave peril, then seized the opportunity to attack Snowy Gale Mountain!
Heavenly Sovereign Ku Xuan’s eyes widened. He wanted to rush to Heavenly Sovereign Qingyi’s aid, but there was no time.
Heavenly Sovereign Qingyi was now in a pinch, too. If she focused on ensuring Lu Ye and the others’ safety, the hostile Heavenly Sovereigns’ ambush would leave her with heavy injuries.
But if she focused on defending herself, she most likely wouldn’t be able to defend Lu Ye, Luo Yan, and Pu Xuan!
Their enemies had chosen just the right moment, and they’d prepared thoroughly. They didn’t want to leave Ku Xuan and Hua Qingyi any chance to fight back whatsoever.
In truth, Heavenly Sovereign Qingyi didn’t even stop to think; there was no time for that. Instead, she acted on instinct, pulling Lu Ye and the others to safety just as her three assailants’ attacks landed.
Boom!
The skies collapsed, and the earth caved in. The towering Snowy Gale Mountain crumbled, offering no more resistance than paper window paneling, leaving a massive chasm in the ground.
Heavenly Sovereign Qingyi was badly injured. A glinting halberd had pierced her defensive Dao Light, leaving a bloody gash on her back. A streak of sword qi had pierced her shoulder, leaving a bloody hole in its wake.
Worst of all, a web of blood-red lightning had enveloped her completely. It was formed entirely out of strange, Heavenly Sovereign-level Laws, and it emanated shocking destructive power, letting it trap and injure Heavenly Sovereign Qingyi simultaneously.
Meanwhile, Heavenly Sovereign Ku Xuan’s fist slammed into the giant hand, shattering it. He was just about to rush to Heavenly Sovereign Qingyi’s aid when someone else blocked his path and intercepted him!
All of this happened unbelievably quickly. In the blink of an eye, the mountain fell, Hua Qingyi was badly injured, and Ku Xuan was intercepted!
