First Immortal of the Sword
Chapter 3147 - An Opportune Moment
The Heavenly Sovereigns fought beneath the dome of heaven, manifesting strange phenomena of the Grand Dao that shook the entire Eternal Heavens Domain.
Now, another group of Heavenly Sovereigns had launched an assassination attempt over the peak of Snowy Gale Mountain. It was easy to imagine how severe the consequences of that would be.
The mountains and rivers crumbled on all sides, and the earth split. The terrifying pressure of Heavenly Sovereigns’ Daos swept over the landscape like a windstorm, ripping everything in its path to shreds.
There were still countless cultivators gathered within the surrounding tens of thousands of miles. Some had moved further away as soon as this grand battle began, while others fled for their lives, but many had remained behind.
Now, when the terrifying majesty of Heavenly Sovereigns spread, they were doomed. They no longer had any hope of fleeing.
That wasn’t all. The surrounding tens of thousands of mountains and rivers would be affected too—including Divine Reverence Pavilion’s main base!
“What a pack of unscrupulous lowlives!” Ruo Su watched from her vantage point amidst the clouds, her eyes flashing in a rare display of fury.
She raised her hand and drew it through the air. Formless power surged forth, transforming into a barrier connecting heaven and earth. It blocked the spreading imperial majesty.
Several of the Secluded Ones’ eyes lit up with anticipation, but much to their disappointment, Ruo Su took it no further. She just prevented the spreading power from doing any further damage.
“Did you really think this was enough to force her to join the battle?” Old Lord Gouchen glowered. “You really are scoundrels!”
He could tell at a glance that this assassination attempt actually had three goals.
First, they wanted to shake Su Yi’s Dao Heart. He was already in peril and under pressure. How could he not react when he saw what was happening on the peak?
Second, they wanted to kill Lu Ye and Luo Yan. That would ruin the Heart-Tempering Sword House’s plans to create two new Heavenly Sovereigns before they could even attempt to implement them.
That was the assassins’ most important goal.
Third, they wanted to force Su Yi’s backers to join the battle. If someone like Ruo Su intervened, the Mountain of the Secluded Ones would declare her their irreconcilable foe and do everything in their power to execute her without mercy!
This assassination attempt was the greatest variable yet, and it sought to kill multiple birds with one stone!
The Secluded Ones sensed Old Lord Gouchen’s anger, but they thought nothing of it. All of them had to act in accordance with the rules. Old Lord Gouchen was among their founding members, but even he was no exception!
Ruo Su hadn’t joined the battle, but they’d otherwise been extremely successful.
Heavenly Sovereign Ku Xuan was fighting Chu Shanke over the ruins of Snowy Gale Mountain. His face was ashen with murderous intent, and he fought with all his might. “You traitors of the Primordial Divine Court really did show up!”
He didn’t recognize Chu Shanke, but a few days prior, Hong Ling had visited Divine Reverence Pavilion to meet Su Yi and inform him of Chu Shanke’s betrayal.
Heavenly Sovereign Ku Xuan naturally understood the situation, too. Thus, Chu Shanke’s sudden assassination attempt didn’t come as much of a surprise.
The only thing that Heavenly Sovereign Ku Xuan hadn’t anticipated was that Chu Shanke would bring three other Heavenly Sovereigns with him.
Heavenly Sovereign Qingyi was now in grave peril. Heavenly Sovereign Ku Xuan couldn’t help but feel panicked, and he couldn’t be bothered to hide anything. He took out his various hidden cards and fought with everything he had.
“A traitor? Hah! You understand nothing.” Chu Shanke shook his head and chuckled.
He wasn’t the least bit panicked, and he made no attempt to clash with Heavenly Sovereign Ku Xuan head-on. Instead, he focused on preventing him from going to Heavenly Sovereign Qingyi’s aid.
If Heavenly Sovereign Qingyi was defeated, Su Yi would have half-lost already!
Heavenly Sovereign Ku Xuan’s expression was dark, and his heart was heavy. He knew that Su Yi was on the verge of being overwhelmed, and Heavenly Sovereign Qingyi was beset on all sides and in grave peril.
Boom!
The battle raged beneath the dome of heaven. The Sovereigns’ majesty spread, throwing heaven and earth into chaos.
Fortunately, Ruo Su’s invisible barrier blocked its spread. Otherwise, it would have affected the entire Unfettered Continent.
Meanwhile, Hua Qingyi’s predicament was every bit as dire as Ku Xuan feared. She’d been badly injured during the initial assassination attempt, and now, she was surrounded by three other Heavenly Sovereigns, like a beast in a cage.
Nonetheless, she pursed her lips, her gaze determined as she wielded the Laws of Stardust and fought back with all her might.
Her wounds were piling up, but she wouldn’t give up lightly.
“Fellow Daoist, this was your plan? But it seems... you can barely even defend yourself, let alone other people,” the Threelives Buddha said with a smile.
He and the other six Heavenly Sovereigns’ taboo treasures were utterly terrifying. At this rate, Su Yi wouldn’t be able to defend himself much longer.
“I can finally say with certainty that you’re truly as forthright and confident as you seem. You made no arrangements of any kind,” Heavenly Sovereign Wen jeered. “I just don’t know whether to call you ‘stupid’ or ‘insane’!”
They’d been cautious earlier for fear that Su Yi had set some kind of trap on Snowy Gale Mountain, but now, the mountain had fallen, and Heavenly Sovereign Qingyi was badly injured.
That naturally meant that Su Yi hadn’t hidden any killer weapons on the peak after all.
But then, Su Yi took out the Book of Destiny, which hovered above his head, scattering its mysterious, inscrutable Dao Light.
The book’s power blocked all of the Heavenly Sovereigns’ taboo treasures!
But this wasn’t enough to help Su Yi escape his predicament.
All of these taboo treasures had shocking origins and terrifying power. In the hands of the Heavenly Sovereigns, they were enough to suppress the Book of Destiny. The book could at most block a portion of their power.
When the Threelives Buddha, Heavenly Sovereign E, and the others saw this, they inwardly sighed in relief. All of them felt reassured.
They’d long since noticed that Su Yi had yet to draw on any of his secret treasures, and all of them were on guard.
But now, the Book of Destiny had joined the battle, only to fail to turn the tide in Su Yi’s favor!
“Got anything else up your sleeve? If so, why not continue?” Heavenly Sovereign E said with cold indifference. “Where’s the Cauldron of Fate? Are you really going to refuse to use it even if it means watching Ku Xuan and Hua Qingyi die?”
All of them understood Su Yi’s hidden cards, albeit to varying degrees. Thus, they were naturally prepared for them!
At this point of the battle, this was no longer a contest of personal strength, but rather of their trump cards.
The Heavenly Sovereigns were certain that even with all of the cards at his disposal, Su Yi had no hope of turning this around!
“Don’t be in such a rush," said Su Yi, finally breaking his silence. He was badly injured, his long hair was disheveled, his blue robes were stained red, and his face was pale. He looked completely and utterly wretched.
But his composure had never wavered. He was as calm as ever. Even the depths of his gaze didn’t so much as ripple with emotion as he said, “When it comes time to determine life and death, none of you will escape!”
The Threelives Buddha’s eyes narrowed, and the other Heavenly Sovereigns frowned. Where does Su Yi get the confidence to say such things even now?
“You might be able to hold on a while longer, but I’m afraid Hua Qingyi can’t,” Heavenly Sovereign E said suddenly. “And if something happens to her, Jiang Wuchen’s three disciples will die, too. Can you really bear to see that happen?”
He was probing, as he could tell that Su Yi still had no intention of going all out. Su Yi was just too calm. Even in the face of this grave predicament, he showed no sign of emotion.
It was for this reason that even as they conversed, the Heavenly Sovereigns didn’t dare to be negligent. On the contrary, if anything, they attacked with increased intensity and ferocity!
“They’ll be fine,” Su Yi said calmly. “All we need now is an opportune moment.”
“An opportune moment?” The Threelives Buddha frowned. He got the vague sense that something wasn’t quite right. It seems that Su Yi wasn’t the least bit surprised to see the Heavenly Sovereigns of the Primordial Divine Court!
I made those arrangements personally, all for the sake of catching Su Yi off guard.
In truth, his hidden plans had already played a critical role. Snowy Gale Mountain had crumbled, Heavenly Sovereign Ku Xuan could barely defend himself, and Heavenly Sovereign Qingyi was badly injured and thoroughly surrounded.
Yet Su Yi was so calm that the Threelives Buddha couldn’t help but find the situation unnatural.
Something was amiss, but what was it, exactly? Had Su Yi somehow anticipated Chu Shanke and the others’ arrival? In that case, why not make arrangements on Snowy Gale Mountain?
“You can’t figure it out, huh?” Su Yi asked suddenly.
The Threelives Buddha’s brow furrowed. “Why not enlighten us, Fellow Daoist Su?”
Their conversation naturally didn’t escape the Secluded Ones’ keen senses. Many of the Secluded Ones’ brows furrowed. Just what opportune moment is Su Yi waiting for? Don’t tell me... he still has something up his sleeve? If so, why hasn’t he used it yet?
But before they could give the matter any further thought, Su Yi said, “See for yourself.”
He’d only just said this when Heavenly Sovereign Qingyi flipped her hand, summoning a jade cauldron. The Threelives Buddha recognized it at a glance. That’s the Cauldron of Fate! A taboo, mysterious treasure.
I would never have guessed that Hua Qingyi had gotten her hands on it.
Then, something he would never have anticipated happened.
Heavenly Sovereign Qingyi flung the Cauldron of Fate. The sky suddenly shook as countless strange, mysterious arcs of the Grand Dao whooshed out of the cauldron’s mouth.
Even more shockingly, a tall, thin, horribly battered figure emerged from the cauldron, then shot forth and attacked.
Just one punch was enough to blast a silver-robed man, one of the people surrounding Heavenly Sovereign Qingyi, into pieces. His body exploded in a spray of blood.
The silver-robed man was a Heavenly Sovereign of the Primordial Divine Court, an expert who’d fought alongside Sovereign Venerate Yi in the early days of the Primordial Era. He wasn’t any weaker than any other Heavenly Sovereign of the present day.
Yet now, a single punch had blasted his body to bits!
Everyone was startled. Even the Secluded Ones watching in secret couldn’t help but feel startled.
The two others surrounding Heavenly Sovereign Qingyi, a man and a woman, were also Heavenly Sovereigns of the Primordial Divine Court.
When they saw that bony figure, their eyes widened with obvious disbelief.
Chu Shanke, who was still locked in fierce combat with Heavenly Sovereign Ku Xuan, could no longer remain calm. He shouted, “True Progenitor Shi Yin? How could you possibly be here?”
“Hahaha! Why shouldn’t I be here? You scoundrels survived, so why couldn't I do the same?” That bony figure threw back his head, his excitement, ruefulness, and delight echoing throughout heaven and earth.
This was none other than True Progenitor Shi Yin. He’d only just arrived, but he was already the center of attention.
