Chapter 659: Ascending
Her gaze flicked once more to his cock, then to the thick trails of dried and fresh fluids still shining on his thighs and stomach. "That poor thing looks like it has been through a war. Did she try to break it, or did you volunteer?"
Sol coughed hard.
"It just... sort of happened."
"Zephyra," Sol rasped, his voice dropping into an uncomfortably casual tone as he tried to put her attention somewhere else, ignore the fact that his manhood was swaying gently in the breeze. "What brings you here this late? Shouldn’t you be by the high fire?"
Zephyra took a slow, unhurried step forward, ignoring the swirling debris. She raised her staff to shield her eyes, turning her gaze away from his lower half and toward the massive column of spiritual energy engulfing Veylara.
The teasing amusement in her pale eyes instantly dissolved, replaced by a profound, trembling wave of shock and awe.
"I felt the spiritual pressure spike across the entire region," Zephyra whispered, her voice dropping the playful edge entirely, turning deeply solemn. "The ambient essence of the Great Orrath suddenly started screaming and rushing in this direction. I had to see what was causing it. I expected a beast tide, or a rare herb awakening, or perhaps some ancient ruin waking up."
"Imagine my surprise," she continued, her smirk widening into a wicked grin, "to find our grand Champion brandishing a massive terrifying, war-battered spear between his legs."
What could Sol do? He could only cough akwardly.
Zephyra’s smile widened for a moment longer, then faded as her attention finally locked fully onto the towering tornado of essence. The amused curve of her lips flattened into a hard, rigid line. She became the High Shaman again... cold, sharp, and utterly focused.
The white of her eyes seemed to deepen as she studied the spiraling currents, the way the ambient power of the entire valley was being violently drawn into the column and forced into the silhouette at its center.
"Step back, Sol," Zephyra warned, her voice suddenly dropping into a deep, solemn register that commanded immediate silence. "Do not try to approach her. She is ascending to another layer."
Sol blinked, his mind struggling to piece the words together against the backdrop of what had just transpired.
"Ascending?" Sol echoed, his crimson eyes shifting from the High Shaman to the spinning vortex. "To another layer? She was already at the Fourth Layer. You’re saying she’s..."
"Layer 5." Zephyra’s voice was steady, but there was an undercurrent of genuine shock beneath it.
Sol’s breath caught in his throat.
Layer 5.
He had been on the verge of Layer 4 himself. He knew, better than almost anyone in the tribe, how brutal the jump between major layers could be. The gap from Layer 3 to 4 was already a chasm that killed most practitioners who attempted it unprepared.
Moving from Layer 3 to Layer 4 required an absolute foundation, spirit harmonization, and preferably a miraculous catalyst.
But jumping from Layer 4 to Layer 5? That wasn’t just climbing a hill. That was crossing an impassable ocean.
In the power hierarchy of the tribes, Layer 4 warlords like Veylara, Vane, and Bruga were already treated as living demigods who could wipe out entire hunting bands with a casual swing of their weapons.
A Layer 5 practitioner was a realm of existence that felt entirely theoretical... something reserved for the ancient, mythical ancestors who founded had founded these tribes in the Great Orrath.
Seeing the raw, genuine shock written across Sol’s rugged face, Zephyra let out a low, breathy sigh, shaking her head.
"Do not look at me as if I understand it any better than you," Zephyra murmured, her pale eyes reflecting the blinding white radiance of the storm. "This is something beyond my knowledge reserves too."
She turned her face toward him, her expression dead serious.
"Layer 4 is another qualitative transformation after layer 3, that rewrite the very foundation of a practitioner’s core. In most regions it required rare resources, life-and-death tempering, or heaven-defying opportunities. Let alone this region...
It is the absolute, unyielding limit of this entire region. It is a hard, immutable rule carved into the very core of the Great Orrath. The ambient energy here is too thin, the essence veins too shallow. The laws are too restrictive.
In all our recorded lineage scrolls, across countless generations, not a single soul has ever reached Layer 5 within these lands."
She paused, the wind from the vortex whipping her silver hair wildly across her cheeks.
"Every talented warrior, every blessed child, every practitioner who found a fortunate encounter in these forests... all of them stopped at the same wall. It is the hard limit of this land.
If someone wishes to go further, they must leave the Great Orrath, abandon the tribes and travel into the forbidden, distant continents to seek greater lands. But those territories have their own dangers, so it’s not so easy"
She paused, the wind from the vortex whipping her silver hair wildly across her cheeks.
"Yet here she is," Zephyra whispered, awe and disbelief warring in her voice. "Breaking the ancient cage, standing in a muddy spring on the outskirts of our own tribe."
Sol stared at the swirling tempest, his brain working overtime. If the entire region was physically incapable of producing a Layer 5 warrior, then what the hell had just triggered this? Veylara hadn’t swallowed a miracle fruit. She hadn’t meditated on ancestral stone tablets.
All they had done for the past several hours was roll around on the moss, bite each other’s necks, and—
Zephyra’s gaze slowly drifted back down toward his waist.
She looked at his cock, still hanging heavy, covered in the drying sheen of Veylara’s juices and his own spent loads. Her eyebrows arched high, a knowing, almost predatory light flickering behind her milky eyes.
"Though," Zephyra purred, her voice dripping with sharp amusement, "looking at the evidence proudly displayed on your front... I can probably venture a rather accurate guess as to how this impossible miracle occurred."
Sol blinked.
"Huh?"
