Chapter 744: Warchief’s Private Sanctum

"Good," Sol grunted, his face a mask of unyielding dedication. "We have critical matters that require thorough attention tonight."

"Of course, Lord Sol!"

The two sentries didn’t hesitate for a single heartbeat. They turned, grabbed the heavy handles of the ironwood leaves, and heaved outward with all their strength. The massive doors groaned on their hinges, opening wide enough for him to pass through.

Sol gave them another grave, dignified nod and stepped through the threshold.

CREAK... SLAM.

The heavy leaves clicked shut behind him, cutting off the outside air.

The moment Sol’s broad back crossed the threshold, the two guards heaved the massive doors shut, locking the heavy crossbeam back into place with a dull, echoing THUD.

Standing together under the starlight, the two sentries let out long, reverent breaths, looking at the closed doors with deep, glowing awe.

"Look at him," the guard on the left whispered, his voice trembling with genuine awe. "It’s so late at night. The entire tribe is feasting and sleeping, yet he spent the entire day hunting in the dangerous deep forest to hone his strength, and the moment he returns, he doesn’t even rest or eat a bowl of broth... he goes straight to the Great Lodge to discuss the future and well-being of our tribe with the Warchief."

The senior guard nodded firmly, his weathered face filled with profound, unshakeable respect. "That is why he is the Supreme Spear. While the elders drink and celebrate our victory, Lord Sol and the Warchief are up all night, carrying the weight of the entire tribe on their shoulders. A leader like that... we would bleed a thousand times for him."

The other guard nodded fervently, his face filled with deep, emotional respect. "Aye. Most warriors would be boasting about their kills. But Lord Sol... he never rests. Day and night, he works himself to the bone for the future and well-being of the Veynar. We are truly blessed to have such a Supreme Spear."

"A true pillar of the clan," the second guard agreed solemnly, adjusting his grip on his pike. "Let us make sure no one disturbs their council tonight."

On the other side of the heavy doors, Sol had no idea that his shameless late-night rendezvous had been grandly romanticized into a heroic tale of selfless, sleepless statecraft.

If he had known that the two sentries were standing outside weeping tears of admiration over his "selfless, late-night dedication to statecraft," he wouldn’t have known whether to burst out laughing or choke on his own spit.

Sol walked down the wide, central aisle of the Great Lodge.

The main council hall was empty and quiet. The long wooden tables where the elders usually sat were bare, the high roasting pits were banked with glowing grey coals, and the grand throne constructed from bleached beast bones sat vacant at the far end of the platform.

The ambient air was warm, thick with the scent of sun-dried cedar, wild sage, and the faint, lingering sweetness of incense.

Sol checked the main council tables and the side alcoves but strangely found no one.

He turned toward the rear of the hall, stepping past the throne platform, making his way toward the heavy, fur-draped archway at the rear of the hall.

Beyond this archway lay the innermost sanctuary of the Great Lodge... a private, restricted sector containing the Warchief’s personal living quarters, her private bath-chambers, and her retreat lounge.

In the past, when he was merely an outsider warrior or even the Savior of the vanguard, this area had been strictly off-limits, a private sanctuary where no warrior or elder dared step without an explicit summons.

He had never set foot inside this private lounge before.

Sol shoved the heavy mammoth-hide drape aside, stepping into a dimly lit, quiet corridor constructed from smooth, polished ironwood planks.

He walked down the short passage until he stood before a cedar door carved with the intricate crest of a roaring white tiger.

Standing right outside her private bedchamber, a sudden, subtle flicker of nervous anticipation danced in his chest.

His steps paused. For a brief heartbeat, his mind flashed back to the sheer, unbridled intensity of their last encounter... that wild, sky-shattering night beneath the weeping willows where he had pinned the fiercest predator in the northern basin to the moss, broken her sovereign pride to pieces, and dragged her across the mortal threshold into Layer 5.

This was the first time they were meeting properly in private since that world-altering breakthrough.

Sol stared at the wooden grain of the door for a second, then let out a low, self-deprecating snort.

Wait a second, Sol thought, a sudden, self-amused smirk breaking across his face as he mentally checked himself. What the hell am I getting nervous for? I’ve already plowed her until she wept, filled her womb with my seed, and forced the heavens to yield. Why act like a timid virgin at her bedroom door?

He shook his head, his crimson eyes gleaming with dark, confident humor, and raised his hand to knock firmly against the carved cedar wood.

Before his knuckles could even touch the wood—

"Come in."

A voice floated through the heavy timber door.

It was low, sultry, and dripping with a dark, melodic sweetness... a smoky, private timbre meant for a single set of ears in the dark.

It was a voice that held zero resemblance to the cold, razor-sharp authority she used on the council elders or the terrifying, divine resonance that had flattened the foreign envoys.

Sol raised an eyebrow, though he wasn’t particularly surprised. Veylara was an ascended sovereign of the Fifth Layer; her expanded spiritual perception could undoubtedly map every heartbeat, breath, and footstep within the tribe long before he even reached the stairs.

Sol noted inwardly, dropping his raised hand. Of course she knew I was standing out here the moment my feet touched the hallway or maybe even before I entered the tribe.

Without further hesitation, Sol pushed the heavy cedar door inward.

CREAK.

The door swung open smoothly, revealing the private sanctum of the Warchief.
