The next day, at the crack of dawn, Wu Sheng rushed over and started knocking on Wu Qihua’s door.

"Mom, are you awake? Get up, quick! We need to discuss something important."

Wu Qihua, who wanted to sleep in, had no intention of dealing with her noisy son. She threw a pillow, rolled over, and went back to sleep.

"Mom, you have to get up! It’s really important! Mom, I’ll call you ’Big Sis,’ how about that...?"

"Get lost! Calling me ’Little Sis’ won’t work either!" Wu Qihua huffed, throwing another pillow.

Wu Sheng: "..."

He took a deep breath and tried again. "Mom, don’t you want me to marry Su Li soon? We agreed to get married by the end of the year, so you need to help pick an auspicious date..."

Wu Sheng was cut off, startled when the door suddenly flew open to reveal Wu Qihua.

"Why didn’t you lead with such great news instead of spouting all that nonsense! If you’d just gotten to the point, I’d have called *you* ’boss,’ you wouldn’t have needed to bribe me by calling me ’sister’!"

Wu Qihua’s hair was a mess, and her face still had sleep marks on it, but her eyes were astonishingly bright. She was bursting with energy, not at all like someone who had just woken up!

’Oh my, oh my, I’m finally going to have a daughter-in-law!’

Overjoyed, Wu Qihua got ready in record time, grabbed her bag, and headed out.

You’d think she was the one getting a bride...

Wu Sheng nervously saw Wu Qihua out the door, his posture as reverent as could be.

Wu Qihua found the old gentleman in the alley who specialized in picking auspicious wedding dates and came right back after the consultation.

"Son, the best time is at the end of the year. The eighteenth of the twelfth lunar month is the most auspicious day. Let’s set it for then."

Wu Sheng nodded vigorously. "Okay, okay! I’ll go tell Su Li."

Wu Sheng turned to leave and find Su Li but was pulled back by Wu Qihua. "Wait a second."

She beckoned for Wu Sheng to sit down. "Come here, son. Let me ask you something."

Baffled, Wu Sheng sat down across from her. "What is it, Mom?"

Wu Qihua reached out and patted Wu Sheng’s head. "Oh, my dear, what could it be? I just wanted to praise you!"

"Oh, my son! I can’t believe how capable you are! You quietly got Su Li to agree to marry you by the end of the year without a peep. I never would have imagined it! You’ve really made something of yourself, so I simply must praise you!"

Wu Qihua’s face was full of motherly affection, but Wu Sheng’s expression stiffened slightly.

But Wu Qihua didn’t notice, continuing with great enthusiasm.

"Come on, tell your mom. How did you get Su Li to agree to marry you by the end of the year?"

Wu Qihua’s eyes were shining. "I gave you so many hints before, both obvious and subtle, and I even taught you a few sweet things to say. Did you say all of them to Su Li? Was that why she agreed?"

Wu Sheng: "..."

’Not really... I didn’t have time to say or do anything.’

’Things didn’t happen the way Wu Qihua was imagining. I didn’t propose—Su Li did.’

’But this... this... it’s better if Mom doesn’t find out!’

Wu Sheng’s eyes darted around. He gritted his teeth, looked up at Wu Qihua with a smile, and started to... bullshit.

"Mom, your son is so outstanding, of course my proposal would be a success. I just..." He then rattled on and on.

Wu Sheng spoke with incredible smoothness, not missing a beat, because... he had prepared, rehearsed, and imagined it all before, hahaha!

Seeing that Wu Qihua believed him, Wu Sheng wiped a non-existent cold sweat from his brow and strutted away proudly.

And where was Wu Sheng going? To Su Li’s house, of course.

He had woken up early and rushed Wu Qihua to get up precisely so he could get an auspicious date and go find Su Li.

Su Li’s foot was injured, so he had to go take care of her and also take Tang Mo to school in her place.

When the new semester started, Tang Mo would be in his last semester of ninth grade. After this semester, he would be moving on to high school.

Normally, starting from the fifth or sixth grade, many children no longer need their parents to take them to school; they go on their own or with classmates.

This was even more true for junior high and high school. However, Tang Mo’s situation was unique. Barring exceptional circumstances, Su Li would always take him to and from school, without fail.

Although Tang Mo was in the ninth grade, he was still young. He would only turn eleven after his birthday in June.

Eleven years old was the typical age for fifth or sixth grade. He was already young for his grade, and on top of that, Tang Mo had been kidnapped once before. With that traumatic shadow looming over them, it was normal for Su Li to be a little more anxious and insist on escorting him.

Wu Sheng understood. He also thought Tang Mo was still little. Even though he had grown much taller, Little Point was still Little Point.

Wu Sheng drove to Su Li’s house as fast as he could. When he arrived, Su Li and Tang Mo were in the middle of an argument about whether she should take him to school.

"Mom, be good. Your foot is injured, so you should rest at home. I can go by myself. I’m a big kid now."

Tang Mo puffed out his chest, trying to persuade Su Li.

"The swelling has gone down overnight, and it doesn’t hurt as much anymore. It’s fine. I need to get out and walk around a bit anyway."

’It’s rare for me to have a day off, of course I want to take Tang Mo to school properly.’

"Mom, why are you always so stubborn?" Tang Mo said helplessly.

Su Li: "..."

’That doesn’t sound right. Shouldn’t I be the one saying that? The part about being obedient should be coming from me.’

"You’re the one who needs to be obedient."

Tang Mo pressed his temples. "Forget it, I’m not arguing with you. Let’s just wait ten minutes. Uncle will probably come to take me."

’Based on past experience, Wu Sheng will definitely come. I’m not going to argue anymore. I’ll wait for Uncle Wu to take me.’

Su Li: "...How do you know he’ll come?"

’Why do I feel a little shy hearing Tang Mo say that?’

Tang Mo couldn’t help but purse his lips. "Of course he’ll come. He always has before, why would today be any different!"

’I couldn’t even bear to watch the way he was when he brought Mom home last night.’

Su Li generally didn’t hide things from Tang Mo. She had told him about the engagement, and Tang Mo had long since been prepared to become a family with Wu Sheng and Wu Qihua.

So, last night, when Su Li told him that she and Wu Sheng would be getting married at the end of the year, Tang Mo wasn’t particularly surprised. He just said a perfectly calm, "I know," and that was it.

Tang Mo genuinely found it normal and was quite calm, as the news wasn’t surprising at all.

’He actually thought that with how impatient Uncle was, he would have tried to find a way to marry his mom even sooner!’

However, seeing Su Li’s nervous and cautious demeanor made Tang Mo feel both helpless and soft-hearted.

As Tang Mo lay in his bed last night, the news tumbled around in his mind. The image that appeared most was of Su Li’s cautious expression, as if she were waiting for his opinion—as if he said a single word of disapproval, Su Li would immediately back out of the marriage.

The thought of what would happen if he deliberately disapproved—his mom suddenly changing her mind and Wu Sheng going berserk—struck Tang Mo as hilarious. He was tempted to try it, feeling a strange impulse.

In the end, however, Tang Mo suppressed the little devil on his shoulder.

’How to put it... it’s better to just imagine it. I would have loved to see Wu Sheng, who’s always at odds with me, lose his mind, but I couldn’t bear to put my mom in a difficult position.’

’Mom wasn’t getting any younger, and among all the people they knew, Uncle was... reluctantly, the most acceptable option.’

’I’ll just... I’ll just reluctantly let Mom marry him, I guess.’

’It’s better for her to get married while she’s still relatively young. If Uncle doesn’t treat her well in the future, I can still protect her and take her away from him.’

’After all, Mom still has me...’
