From Broken Family to Life Winner: A Reborn Mother's Journey
Chapter 639 - 638: Cowardly or Brave (Part 2)
"The higher the hopes, the greater the disappointment," Wu Sheng said.
"He’s still the same as always. What I wanted to tell you is that I can’t stand to watch this anymore either. I want to give him a strong push."
The light in Su Li’s eyes dimmed for a second before flaring back to life. When they reached the door, she didn’t go in. Instead, she pulled Wu Sheng aside to whisper by the stairwell.
"The group came up with a few lousy ideas, but I don’t think any of them will work..." Wu Sheng whispered back to Su Li.
All their friends knew about Wa Wa Lian’s feelings. Just like Su Li, they were all worried sick but could only watch from the sidelines.
Especially that one time, a little while back, when Wa Wa Lian suggested "adopting" Teacher Xiao Hong as a little sister. Their friends nearly smothered him with a blanket for that.
Xiao Hong had just been through such an ordeal; she needed time to recover. The one silver lining was that she hadn’t gotten pregnant.
After Song Shengfu’s execution, Xiao Hong finally began to open up a little. Wa Wa Lian would visit and show his concern whenever he had the chance, but he wasn’t making any progress.
Wu Sheng and Su Li put their heads together and actually managed to come up with a plan.
With a nudge from Wu Sheng, Wa Wa Lian finally delivered, taking that first step.
No, it was more like a giant leap.
The perpetually timid Wa Wa Lian’s sudden bravery was astonishing. The result left their entire group of friends dumbfounded.
He went from silence to a bombshell announcement: he was getting married.
Just one day later, Wa Wa Lian announced he was marrying Xiao Hong. They’d even picked out an auspicious date.
It was in October, even before Su Li and Wu Sheng’s own wedding!
When Wu Sheng heard the news, especially Wa Wa Lian’s wedding date, he was just... "...."
’I can’t believe he’s getting married before me.’
He had announced his own happy news ages ago, but his wedding... it just *had* to be in the last month of the lunar calendar. It was still so far away.
And Wa Wa Lian, that timid fool, was actually beating him to the altar!
’He’s getting married before me! How am I supposed to accept that? And the only reason he’s getting married before me is because I was the one who helped him come up with the plan!’
Wu Sheng and the others just stared, dumbfounded, as a beaming Wa Wa Lian announced the news before rushing off in a flurry to hand out invitations.
Wu Sheng: "...."
Although he really wanted to give Wa Wa Lian a good thrashing and knock him down a peg—after all, that smug look on his face was just asking for it—Wu Sheng ultimately restrained himself.
’Fools have their own kind of luck, I guess. It had taken so much for Wa Wa Lian to man up this once. If he went back to being a coward, he’d probably never get married.’
And so, in the golden month of October, a conflicted-looking Wu Sheng and a beaming Su Li attended Wa Wa Lian and Xiao Hong’s wedding banquet.
Wa Wa Lian didn’t stop grinning the entire day, which only made him look even sillier.
Just as Wu Sheng had said, Wa Wa Lian had really managed to snag himself a wife.
The wedding was lively and touching, and the commotion at the end was pretty big, too.
And by "commotion," uh, I don’t mean at the wedding banquet, but... on the wedding night.
The wedding night in the bridal chamber... that’s one of the three great joys in life.
A flushed and tipsy Wa Wa Lian was escorted to the bridal chamber, and after some customary teasing, the guests took their leave.
But as it turned out, before all the guests had even left, another commotion erupted from the bridal chamber.
The reason? Wa Wa Lian had gotten a fright. His flushed face instantly turned deathly pale; he’d nearly been scared out of his wits.
The root of the problem was that Xiao Hong... was bleeding.
Ahem... she was bleeding during, well, you know... that "indescribable" act.
Wa Wa Lian wasn’t completely clueless. Even if he hadn’t known before, he’d made sure to learn what he needed to know before marrying Xiao Hong.
Knowing what Xiao Hong had been through, he had been extremely gentle. He was certain she wouldn’t bleed, but she did.
Wa Wa Lian was terrified. The only thing he could think was that he had hurt her.
Parents often worry about virile young men like Wa Wa Lian, fearing they’ll be too impulsive and accidentally hurt their partners, so they’d specifically warned him. He never imagined he would actually injure Xiao Hong.
His face white with terror, Wa Wa Lian scooped up Xiao Hong and rushed to the hospital.
Xiao Hong’s own face was just as pale, a mask of pain and fright.
When Wa Wa Lian burst into the hospital carrying Xiao Hong, the doctor initially thought she was having a miscarriage. Even after hearing the story, the doctor assumed it was something serious, given the panicked expressions on both their faces.
But in the end... after a long examination, the doctor couldn’t find anything wrong.
There was nothing wrong with Xiao Hong at all. The bleeding was simply from her losing her virginity.
"What?" Wa Wa Lian, who had been waiting outside going half-mad and wanting to kill himself, was utterly dumbfounded when he heard the result.
"I said she’s fine. It’s nothing serious. You’re probably just inexperienced and got a little too nervous..." the doctor explained, trying his best to hold back a laugh.
"No, that’s not it. Xiao Hong... she was... before..." Wa Wa Lian interrupted, trying to explain vaguely.
The doctor was certain his diagnosis was correct, but Wa Wa Lian was convinced the doctor must have missed something. Their argument was going nowhere.
Finally, Su Li and Wu Sheng arrived.
Having heard the news, Su Li and Wu Sheng rushed over. Wu Sheng stayed to calm down the agitated Wa Wa Lian while Su Li went to see the doctor and Xiao Hong.
Fifteen minutes later, it was Su Li whose expression was the most priceless.
Because the whole situation was... just too ridiculous for words.
Xiao Hong’s face had been pale earlier. After some gentle questioning from Su Li, it turned out that besides being mortified, angry, and confused, she had also been in pain and frightened.
"I didn’t expect it to hurt that much, and Zhang Ming... he scared me..."
As Xiao Hong told her story, Su Li and the doctor were at a complete loss for words.
Xiao Hong’s case was truly one of a kind.
Well, she had indeed been... you know... by Song Shengfu.
However... there was a bit of a catch.
Based on Xiao Hong’s stammering, roundabout explanation, both the doctor and Su Li couldn’t help but fight back smiles.
Su Li didn’t know what the doctor was thinking, but after hearing the whole story, one specific food item popped clearly into her mind.
’I’m still pure, innocent little Su Li who doesn’t understand anything.’
’That thought just now wasn’t mine. It belongs to the netizens of the future.’
’Yes, that’s it! Exactly!’
When Su Li came out from Xiao Hong’s room, she faced a nervous Wa Wa Lian and a concerned Wu Sheng with a rather peculiar expression on her face.
Wu Sheng, sensing something was off, kept quiet.
Wa Wa Lian, however, immediately rushed forward. "How is she? Sister-in-law, is Xiao Hong okay?"
The corner of Su Li’s mouth twitched uncontrollably. She coughed twice and avoided Wa Wa Lian’s gaze.
"Why don’t you go in? Xiao Hong will explain. It’s fine, really. Nothing’s wrong."
Wa Wa Lian belatedly noticed that Su Li’s face was a little red and sensed the awkwardness in the air. He scratched his head and finally went inside.
’Alright, for things to turn out this way... it really was incredibly awkward.’
It was so awkward, in fact, that from that day forward, Wa Wa Lian avoided Su Li at all costs. For the next two or three years, he couldn’t bring himself to face her, keeping as much distance as possible.
If he were a gopher, he probably would have burrowed into the ground every time he saw her.
