From Trash to Treasure: The Sinclair Family's Beloved Genius
Chapter 537: Research Base
The next morning, Chloe Sinclair packed a carful of luggage and drove with Jasper Shaw to the old master’s laboratory.
A few bodyguards were waiting to meet them at the foot of the mountain.
Each person grabbed a suitcase, and the group headed up the mountain in a procession.
Although they were on a mountain, a white road about 1.2 meters wide snaked through the mountainous terrain.
After about half an hour of walking, the group finally reached a spot halfway up the mountain.
Chloe Sinclair had a lot of luggage, so after it was all brought up, she thanked the bodyguards profusely.
One of the bodyguards grew embarrassed by her thanks.
“Miss Sinclair, this is as far as we can take you. Your and Mr. Shaw’s apartment is on the third floor of that building to the left. Here is the key.”
Chloe Sinclair looked over and saw that it wasn’t far.
So she nodded. “Okay.”
The two of them took their luggage and went to a small residential building.
The building resembled something you’d find in a small town; it wasn’t dilapidated and was only about four or five stories tall.
But it had an elevator, which made things convenient.
Chloe Sinclair and Jasper Shaw were staying together. As soon as they opened the door, they found the room already equipped with basic furnishings. It looked like someone had come to clean in advance.
Chloe Sinclair looked around and was quite satisfied.
She remembered participating in a small experiment in her past life, but the conditions back then hadn’t been nearly this good. That project had also been on a mountain, but finding food every day had been a real problem.
In the end, that experiment failed. Many of her colleagues, pressed by the need to make a living, had given up halfway through.
The experiment ultimately ended in failure, and after three months, she had no choice but to go home.
Chloe Sinclair walked around the room for a bit, then suddenly noticed Jasper Shaw standing at the entrance, not coming in.
“What are you doing just standing there in the doorway?”
Chloe Sinclair was a little confused.
Jasper Shaw stammered, “I… I think I should request another room.”
He had just looked around. The entire apartment wasn’t large, maybe only fifty or sixty square meters.
The living room was quite large, and there was one bathroom and one kitchen.
But there was only one bedroom.
He had thought there would be an extra room before he arrived.
But now…
He couldn’t even muster the courage to step inside.
Chloe Sinclair had spent her entire past life with Jasper Shaw, so she was long used to being with him. She thought he was having second thoughts and wanted to back out.
She couldn’t help but ask, “Didn’t we agree to move in together?”
Jasper Shaw: “!!!”
The man hadn’t seemed to expect the young woman to be so blunt. His face instantly turned beet red as he looked at her.
“Yes, but… there’s only one bedroom.”
Chloe Sinclair’s face scrunched up. “What, are you afraid you’ll be the one at a disadvantage?”
Jasper Shaw: “…”
‘I’m worried about *you* being at a disadvantage.’
He opened his mouth, but he couldn’t bring himself to say it.
But seeing that the young woman looked like she was about to get angry, Jasper Shaw finally relented. “I’ll sleep on the couch, then.”
The couch in the living room looked like a pull-out. Besides, once the experiment got busy, he figured they wouldn’t be coming back much anyway.
But the young woman shook her head and said seriously, “No need. You can have half of my bed.”
‘Other than the large bed in the bedroom, the only other option was this big couch.’
She couldn’t bear the thought of Jasper Shaw sleeping on the couch.
Jasper Shaw saw how determined the young woman was, but his internal line of defense remained firmly in place.
It was just that the young woman seemed so innocent, as if she hadn’t thought about the implications.
After hesitating in the doorway for a long time, Jasper Shaw finally nodded. “Alright.”
The two of them spent some time unpacking, and there was still half a closet left empty when they were done.
PS: I’ve started a new job recently, so I’m incredibly busy and tired. As you all have seen, the quality of my writing has declined. Although I want to revise the story, I don’t have the energy or time. I don’t want to keep going on like this, so for the next few months, I will be slowing down the update schedule. I can’t guarantee a specific frequency, but I promise I will see the story through to the end.
I’ve been writing this book for over 200 days and have taken less than ten days off in total. Writing this book is more exhausting than you might imagine, and it’s not just about the story itself. My family and friends think it’s a miracle that I’ve managed to write 700,000 characters. I don’t want this book to continue on its current path. I’ve thought about this for nine whole days and decided I have to tell everyone that I can no longer maintain a fixed update schedule. Thank you for your understanding.
