Chapter 367: Chapter 202: Children Will Have Their Own Fortune

Watching Yin Zheng burst through the door, his father shot him an annoyed glare and said, "You’re a grown man now, yet you’re still so impetuous. What kind of behavior is that?"

But Yin Zheng was thick-skinned. He paid no mind to his father’s expression, plopped down nonchalantly in the seat across from him, and even snatched the cigarette pack his father had on the desk to light one for himself.

He took a drag and blew out a cloud of smoke, looking as smug as could be.

The sight made his father’s temples throb, and he had half a mind to take off his belt and give Yin Zheng a taste of some "fatherly love."

"You’d better have something important to say, or I swear I’ll let you have a taste of Pierre Cardin today."

"COUGH, COUGH!" Hearing that, Yin Zheng choked on his cigarette and started coughing uncontrollably.

He knew when to quit while he was ahead. He stubbed out his cigarette and explained, "You told me to call Su Chen, right? Well, it turns out he just got back."

"He agreed to that thing you wanted me to ask him about. Plus, I found out something important from him." Yin Zheng looked at his father, his face practically screaming, ’Aren’t you going to ask me what it is?’

But his father didn’t give him the time of day. He simply leaned back in his chair, arms crossed, and stared at him blankly.

"Tch, you’re no fun at all," Yin Zheng muttered before revealing the important information anyway. "Su Chen came back to Wudu for his father’s fiftieth birthday, which is happening in the next few days."

"Hm?" Hearing this, a flicker of interest finally crossed his father’s face.

"Did you ask about the arrangements? Is it at home or at a hotel?" He had always been incredibly curious about Su Chen. Everything about him, whether revealed intentionally or not, was shrouded in an air of mystery.

’Just like that half-pack of cigarettes Yin Zheng brought back last time,’ he thought. ’I was the talk of Wudu’s upper crust because of those. For a while, everyone who was anyone was inviting me out to dinner.’

’Despite my serious demeanor now, I was quite the thrill-seeker in my youth. Crashing supercars worth tens of millions... that was a regular occurrence for me.’

Snapping out of his reverie, he saw the awkward look on Yin Zheng’s face. His son still hadn’t answered his question, and the father instantly realized he didn’t know the answer.

He shook his head, exasperated. ’He came to report without getting all the facts. It looks like I need to teach him a thing or two.’

"Keep an eye on this. Call me the moment you hear anything." He paused before adding, "As for the gift, you don’t need to worry about it."

When he finished, he saw Yin Zheng still hadn’t moved. "Why are you still sitting here? Have you got nothing better to do?"

Yin Zheng had wanted to mention that he’d let something slip during his call with Su Chen, but one look from his father sent him scrambling to his feet and out of the study.

Watching Yin Zheng’s retreating figure, his father didn’t know whether to laugh or be angry.

He was angry because his son was a disappointment who couldn’t be trusted with the family business.

He was amused because his son had stumbled into a friendship with Su Chen through sheer dumb luck. As long as the boy stayed on the straight and narrow, his future would be secure.

’Every generation makes its own way. Why am I worrying about all this?’ he mused. He recalled how his own father, seeing that his heart wasn’t in the family business, had decisively chosen another outstanding successor from within the group.

.........

"Xiahou, do you even know how to play?! Even their support can kill you! Just go back to farming, dude. This game really isn’t for you!"

Su Chen yelled at his phone. He’d gotten bored that afternoon and downloaded the game after seeing a bunch of people playing it on TikTok.

He’d been playing for hours now, completely lost in the fun of the game.

He had finally fought his way to his promotion match for the Silver rank, only to find his teammates were either intentionally throwing the game or were a bunch of little kids just whining nonstop. Even with Su Chen racking up twenty-odd kills per game, it was no use.

Watching the enemy team destroy their nexus, Su Chen was so furious he rage-quit and immediately uninstalled the stupid-ass game.

CLICK.

The sound of a key in the lock came from the front door. Su Chen poked his head out to see Chen Shufen and Su Zhuyun walking in, carrying two large bags.

"Dad, Mom, what are you doing back? Isn’t the shop busy?" Su Chen asked, getting up and walking toward the door.

"Well, my darling son is home, isn’t he? I figured you wouldn’t have anything to eat for dinner, so I came home to make you something good," Chen Shufen said, holding up the bags she was carrying for emphasis.

A quick glance showed it was all meat, with hardly any vegetables in sight.

Meanwhile, Su Zhuyun, who followed her in, was carrying bags filled with all sorts of fruit—at least seven or eight different kinds.

"Alright, Young Master, I’ll go wash some fruit for you," Su Zhuyun said, giving Su Chen a sidelong glance before heading to the kitchen with his bags.

Watching his parents bustling around the kitchen, a blissful smile spread across Su Chen’s face.

Before long, Su Zhuyun emerged with two fruit platters, which he set on the coffee table before plopping down on the sofa.

"Did you come back empty-handed this time?" Su Zhuyun asked, picking up a cluster of grapes and eating one.

Hearing this, Su Chen knew exactly what his dad was getting at. ’He’s just asking about his birthday present.’

"Of course not! Your birthday’s still a few days away. I’ll give it to you then!" Su Chen said, sitting down on the sofa and starting to eat as well. The takeout he’d ordered for lunch hadn’t been very good, so he’d barely touched it. The fruit was a welcome snack to tide him over.

"What do you mean ’then’? Giving it to me now is the same thing!" Su Zhuyun held out his hand, making it obvious he wanted to see his gift today.
