Chapter 366: Chapter 202: Your Descendants Will Have Their Own Fortunes
The caller was none other than Yin Zheng, the so-called "Young Master of Wudu."
"I gotta say, you’ve got good sources. I just got back to Wudu and you’re already calling me!"
Yin Zheng, on the other end of the line, was completely lost. "You’re back in Wudu?" he asked, confused. "How come you didn’t call to let me know?"
Su Chen was taken aback for a moment. ’So Yin Zheng didn’t know I was back.’ "I just got back today. Let’s get to business first. Why’d you call me?"
If it wasn’t something important, Yin Zheng definitely wouldn’t have called him.
Yin Zheng sounded a bit surprised. "You don’t know? Didn’t Auntie tell you?"
Hearing this, Su Chen’s brows furrowed instantly. He recalled his mom calling Su Yan earlier, asking if he was going to the hot pot restaurant because she had something to discuss with him. ’This must be what Yin Zheng is talking about.’
But judging from his mom’s tone, it didn’t seem like a huge deal. Otherwise, his mother, Chen Shufen, wouldn’t have been so calm.
Once Su Chen figured it out, his furrowed brow relaxed, and he leaned back into the massage chair again.
"I came straight home after arriving in Wudu. I haven’t seen my parents yet. Go on, what’s happened?"
"It’s not a huge deal. It’s just that your family’s hot pot place has become the top dog in Wudu’s hot pot scene. They’ve opened a bunch of branches in the main city districts, and as a result, business has slowed down for a lot of other hot pot restaurants."
"Auntie and Uncle are so focused on the restaurant that they don’t join any associations or attend business events. Naturally, that’s made some people jealous."
"A lot of people have reached a consensus to restrict Shufen Hot Pot’s growth. On top of that, Wudu’s biggest food suppliers received notices from certain associations to reduce their supply to Shufen Hot Pot."
"But it hasn’t had too much of an impact. After all, Shufen Hot Pot’s business is booming so much that plenty of small and medium-sized suppliers are lining up to deliver to their door."
Yin Zheng didn’t forget to add at the end, "I didn’t think it was a big deal, so I haven’t said anything to those people. Do you think I need to have a word with that association or whatever?"
Su Chen pretty much understood the situation now. Whether in the restaurant business or any other industry, everyone has their own circle.
You could go it alone if you were strong enough, but that would send a signal to the locals that you’re not a team player, and people would naturally start to isolate you.
Besides, Shufen Hot Pot was already very famous in Wudu—you could say it was one of the city’s culinary calling cards.
If they didn’t even join a restaurant association or some chamber of commerce, what would that look like to others? That they looked down on Wudu’s local business environment?
"I get it now. I’ll have a word with my parents about it. I might need you to pull some strings for me later, but..."
When Yin Zheng heard those first few sentences, he breathed a long sigh of relief, knowing his mission was more or less complete.
But when he heard the "but" that followed, his heart immediately leaped into his throat.
You see, this phone call wasn’t on a whim. It was mainly at his father’s suggestion.
Yin Zheng’s father was the vice president of the Wudu Business Association. He’d recently heard some gossip from both higher-ups and subordinates, so he specifically had Yin Zheng make this call to do Su Chen a favor. It wasn’t a huge one, but it showed he was looking out for Su Chen.
He believed Su Chen would definitely remember this.
Yin Zheng held his breath, waiting for what Su Chen would say next.
"After they join those associations, I don’t want anyone causing trouble for them again. When the time comes, don’t say I didn’t give you face."
Hearing this, the weight on Yin Zheng’s heart lifted completely. "Phew, I thought it was something serious," he said. "Don’t worry. If Auntie joins, she’ll be a member of the board of directors right away."
The moment he said that, Yin Zheng wanted to smack himself. He cursed himself internally for speaking without thinking, for not having a filter on what he should and shouldn’t say.
Didn’t that sentence just scream to Su Chen that he had come prepared?
Just as he was wallowing in regret, Su Chen’s voice came through the phone.
"You’re the one who said it. If you can’t make it happen, watch out. I might just have to make things difficult for you, you know."
"Heh heh... you can rest a hundred percent assured. It’s a done deal!" Seeing that Su Chen didn’t press the issue, Yin Zheng understood his meaning and quickly changed the subject. "So, what brings you back to Wudu? Is something up?"
Su Chen paused for a moment. After thinking it over, he figured there was no need to hide it and replied, "Well, my dad’s fiftieth birthday is in a couple of days. I came back to celebrate with him."
When he heard it was Su Chen’s father’s fiftieth birthday, Yin Zheng’s grin practically stretched from ear to ear.
"Uncle’s birthday? Su, that’s not cool, man. How could you not tell your bro about something this big? When and where is it? I’ll definitely be there."
Yin Zheng’s mind was already racing, thinking about what kind of gift would best express his sincerity. After a moment’s thought, he decided he’d better discuss it with his father later.
"It’s in a few days. I’ll send you the specific time and address on WeChat later."
"Alright! You better remember!"
The two chatted for a bit longer before hanging up.
After hanging up, Yin Zheng leaped up from the sofa. He bounded up the stairs toward the study, taking them two at a time, shouting, "Dad! Big news! This is big news!"
