Chapter 460: Chapter 233: Hunting, Gaining a Pet (3)
The bonuses Su Chen had mentioned were distributed by Ivan that very day. As the farm manager, Bastu naturally wanted to thank his boss.
The patrolman nodded. "Wait here a moment. I’ll go ask the boss!"
With that, he turned and strode over to Su Chen, explaining the situation from top to bottom.
After listening, Su Chen said simply, "Have him come over. And while you’re at it, ask what’s going on with Ivan."
The patrolman waved Bastu over, then promptly stood aside to act as a guard.
"Boss, good afternoon!" Bastu called out respectfully as he approached.
Looking at the older man with the thick, bushy beard, Su Chen pointed to a nearby rock, gesturing for him to sit.
Bastu wasn’t one for ceremony. He plopped right down on the rock.
"Boss, I found this little guy on the way over. I hope you like it!" As soon as he was seated, Bastu hurriedly pulled a small creature from a pouch at his hip.
"Huh? Is this a cat? No... it’s a lynx?" A flicker of pleasant surprise crossed Su Chen’s eyes as he looked at the cat-like creature in Bastu’s hands.
He couldn’t help it; the little creature was just too adorable. It had a cute, dazed look and appeared to have only just been weaned.
As Su Chen took the little creature, it tilted its head back and let out a cry at him.
But the lynx cub was so small, its attempt at a threat looked more like a bid for affection.
A thought crossed Su Chen’s mind, and he immediately used his animal affinity ability. The little lynx, which had been squirming in his hands, instantly grew still. It looked up at him, then promptly padded over and curled up on his chest.
This scene left everyone present dumbfounded, especially the patrolmen. They knew that lynxes were notoriously ill-tempered and rarely submitted to anyone, not even as cubs.
Yet this cub had submitted and acknowledged Su Chen as its master in less than a minute. How could they not be shocked?
The patrolmen and Bastu now looked at Su Chen with an added layer of awe. For a creature as wild and untamable as a lynx to bow its head could only mean one thing: it had sensed a far more powerful presence.
Xiao Chen, watching from the side, felt a pang of jealousy. He looked at the adorable little lynx and, in the end, couldn’t resist.
He had just started to reach out and pet the cub when, before his hand could even get close, it threw its head back, opened its mouth, and let out a low growl.
"Easy now, be good," Su Chen said softly. The little lynx immediately fell silent.
Seeing this, Xiao Chen shot Su Chen an annoyed glare and pulled his hand back. ’What kind of magic does this guy have?’ he wondered silently. ’Taming it so quickly...’
A faint smile touched Su Chen’s lips. He stroked the little lynx a few more times before turning his gaze to Bastu. "I love your gift."
"I’m glad you like it, Boss!" Bastu grinned from ear to ear.
"By the way, Bastu, has Ivan found any trace of the bear yet?" Su Chen hadn’t forgotten the main task at hand.
Hearing this, Bastu slapped his forehead. "He has! He found tracks leading to a mountain hollow. When I left, Ivan was trying to pinpoint the bear’s exact den. If you’re interested, Boss, I can take you there now!"
Su Chen didn’t answer right away. Instead, he looked over at Xiao Chen to get his thoughts. After all, a bear hunt was dangerous. One mistake could be fatal.
"I’m fine with it. We can just have Xuan and Huang accompany you," Xiao Chen replied without hesitation. In truth, he was also keen to hunt a bear himself.
"Alright, then. Let’s go check it out." Su Chen stood and dusted himself off, then looked to Bastu, signaling for him to lead the way.
And so, the party of ten quickly made their way deep into the forest.
