Chapter 490: Chapter 243: This Is an Attempt to Scam Someone

The story goes that the online loan company had doxed his cousin, Chen Fan, and started calling everyone on his contact list. When they got to Chen Shufen, however, they ran headfirst into a brick wall.

There was an unwritten rule in the loan collection industry: you don’t go after people with status and influence, such as lawyers, civil servants, doctors, or senior executives.

The very moment Chen Shufen got the collection call, she reported it up the chain. The head of the collection agency received a warning call shortly after, and the calls to Chen Fan’s contacts stopped completely.

As for the lenders themselves, their approach was even more direct.

They used the address on Chen Fan’s ID to track the family down. The situation got a little out of hand, and they clashed with Su Chen’s eldest uncle. Fortunately, the villagers were a tight-knit community and stopped things from getting any worse.

In the end, it was Su Chen’s second uncle who called Chen Shufen. She had to pay a full three hundred thousand to resolve the issue. They only collected the principal—and that was out of consideration for Chen Shufen’s reputation as a prominent Wudu entrepreneur, as well as warnings from certain government departments. With interest, the debt would have at least doubled.

His eldest uncle’s family was so shamed by the incident that they couldn’t face anyone in the village. In the end, Chen Shufen arranged for them to live in the city. The original plan had been to set him up with a supermarket in town, but after all this drama, how could they possibly have the face to stay in their hometown?

"My cousin said on the phone that he’s abroad, somewhere in Singapore, Southeast Asia. When I finish up my business here, I’ll make time for a trip to Singapore to see what’s really going on."

"Abroad? And Singapore, no less? That little bastard Chen Fan didn’t even graduate high school, and he’s running off to a foreign country? He’s the type to get sold and still happily help the person count the money!" Chen Shufen muttered in annoyance.

Su Chen nearly laughed out loud. He felt like giving his mom a big thumbs-up. ’Leave it to the woman who’s seen it all. You’re right on the money, Mom. Your darling nephew has already been sold, and he was even planning to trick your precious son into going over there.’

Of course, these were just thoughts Su Chen kept to himself. He would... certainly never say them aloud.

"Son, as long as your cousin isn’t starving over there, just let him be."

"Huh?" Su Chen was taken aback. He never imagined his mother would say something so heartless.

"A leopard can’t change its spots, and a gambling addict is no different. It’s impossible to get him to stop. Our family has finally found some stability. If he comes back, who knows what kind of pandemonium he’ll cause."

"I understand, Mom." Su Chen sighed. He knew she was right. Some people don’t change that easily; if they did, things wouldn’t have come to this.

Su Chen used to envy his cousin, Chen Fan. His wife wasn’t just beautiful and devoted, she also had a good job. He had both a son and a daughter. What was the difference between that and winning the game of life?

Maybe the only thing missing was true financial independence, but their family was definitely comfortably middle-class.

A pity... it was all thrown away by his gambling-addicted cousin. To say his wife and children left him would not be an exaggeration.

After hanging up the phone, Su Chen pondered for a moment before calling out to Chen Fei, who was playing outside with Pang Hu and his furry companions.

"Sir, you called for me?" Chen Fei came in, followed by Pang Hu, Hu Er, and Zhaocai. Hu Da, on the other hand, had already returned to their home country with Xiao Chen.

The moment he was inside, Pang Hu padded over to Su Chen’s feet, lay down, and rested his large head on his knee.

Su Chen stroked Pang Hu’s head and then said, "Make the arrangements. We’re flying back to the Imperial Capital tomorrow morning. And remember to handle the necessary permits for Pang Hu and the other two little ones."

Money makes the world go round, and that was no exception here in Russia. As long as you got a permit, you were good to go. Su Chen simply let his money do the talking, and all the necessary paperwork was sorted within a day.

"Sir, is it just the two of us going back? Should I notify anyone else?

"Just the two of us." Su Chen paused before adding, "And... just give Ivan a heads-up."

Understanding the situation, Chen Fei realized everyone else had been assigned important tasks and wouldn’t be returning home for now. He took out his phone, walked toward the door, and made two separate calls: one to the pilot of the private jet and the other to Ivan.
