Chapter 494: Chapter 245: You Sure Know How to Talk

Night fell!

Su Chen was lounging on the living room sofa, his ginger cat, Yuanbao, purring on his lap. That afternoon, poor Yuanbao had been scared half to death by Pang Hu and the two little ones.

If Su Chen hadn’t been there to calm him down, Yuanbao would have bolted to who-knows-where.

Because of this, the cat now clung to Su Chen, refusing to leave his side, as if believing he was safest right next to him.

Su Chen felt a bit helpless. Although all his pets were felines, the ginger cat was clearly at the bottom of the pecking order. To help Yuanbao get used to them, he had temporarily moved Pang Hu and the two little ones to a room in the central courtyard’s covered walkway.

Stroking Yuanbao’s smooth fur with his right hand, he occasionally glanced at the watch on his wrist. Seeing that it was already 7:55 PM, the corners of Su Chen’s mouth lifted into a slight smile.

The minutes ticked by, and soon it was 8:00 PM. The screen of the phone on the table immediately lit up, accompanied by a cheerful ringtone.

"Grandpa~ your grandson is calling you again!"

Hearing the ringtone, the smile on Su Chen’s face grew even wider.

’Right on time. He said 8:00, and it’s 8:00 on the dot—not a minute more, not a minute less!’ Having been waiting for this call, Su Chen didn’t hesitate for a second and hit the answer button.

"Hey, Bro."

"Little bro! Not busy now, are you?" Chen Fan’s hearty voice came through the phone.

"Not busy now. Bro, you called me a few times today, but I missed them. I tried calling you back, but it wouldn’t go through. Is it because your number is an international one?" Su Chen asked, a mocking expression on his face.

This wasn’t just a random excuse. He had actually tried calling back that afternoon and found that the call wouldn’t connect. He suspected it was a virtual number that could only make outgoing calls, not receive them.

This also gave him a convenient excuse for intentionally not answering the calls earlier.

On the other end of the line, Chen Fan chuckled. "Haha, that’s right. Your big bro here has an international number. Not just anyone can call it."

After saying that, Chen Fan paused and quickly changed the subject. "By the way, little bro, have you thought about what I told you before? Want to come over to Singapore and help your big brother out?"

"Your bro here landed a huge deal this morning. If we can finish it within a month, we’ll make at least 100,000 Singapore dollars. Little bro, you might not think 100,000 is a lot, but you have to know, the exchange rate between the Singapore dollar and the Huaxian yuan is one to thirty-two! That means 100,000 Singapore dollars is equivalent to 3.2 million Huaxian yuan!"

"Unfortunately... we’re short on manpower right now. Otherwise, I wouldn’t be calling you in such a rush." Chen Fan’s tone was filled with feigned regret and disappointment.

If Su Chen had received this call from his dear older cousin before he got the System, he would have believed every word of it. He might have even booked a flight to Singapore right after the first call.

In his spare time that afternoon, Su Chen had done some online research about the situation in Singapore. He found that there were indeed some "industrial parks" there, but most of them were involved in things like "pig-butchering scams," not the kind of "pig farming" operations common in Northern Myanmar.

Of course, he couldn’t rule out the possibility of it being a transit operation in Southeast Asia—the kind where they build up a fake persona, like a rich second-generation heir or a successful boss, to lure people from back home. The moment you step out of the airport, you’re stuffed in a sack and shipped off to another country.

Such cases weren’t rare at all. Su Chen had seen that they had become especially frequent in Southeast Asia over the last two years.

He just didn’t know which kind his "dear big bro" was involved in. If it was the first type, there might still be a chance to save his cousin. But if it was the second type...

A vicious glint flashed in Su Chen’s eyes.

"Bro, are you serious? You can’t be lying to your little brother!"

Su Chen thought back to his days as a delivery driver and let loose a torrent of genuine-sounding emotion, his voice filled with indignation.

"To be honest... if I had any other options, I would’ve quit this goddamn delivery job ages ago! It’s exhausting, and on top of that, I get so much damn grief. I get complaints from those assholes over every little thing. After rent and expenses, I’m left with only two or three thousand yuan a month!"

He paused, as if making a momentous decision. After mulling it over for a few seconds, Su Chen said through gritted teeth, "Bro, I’ve made up my mind. I’ll quit tomorrow and come join you. It’s just... I’ve never been abroad before, so it might take a few days to get a passport and all that."

"Also... Bro, there’s something I wanted to discuss with you," Su Chen said, feigning hesitation.

They say everyone is a natural actor, and Su Chen felt there wasn’t a shred of falsehood in that statement. He had really started to enjoy this feeling of acting over the past two days. The words flowed effortlessly, as if he were completely immersed in the role.

When Chen Fan heard that Su Chen was willing to come, he couldn’t have been happier, grinning so widely that even his back molars were showing.

"Little bro, whatever it is, just say it. Anything your big bro can solve for you is no problem at all," Chen Fan said with a laugh.

"Uh... Bro, it’s not a big deal, but a couple of my friends want to come along too. We all used to be delivery drivers together, been friends for years. I was wondering... would that be okay?"
